While I love the idea of GPS, especially when traveling out of state, it is too flawed to replace paper. GPS has been wrong so many times that we almost always print out a map or carry a AAA guidebook as a back-up. It feels so lame to say, «we’re late because GPS was wrong» even if it’s true. Sometimes, a place doesn’t even show up, or the directions to get there are so roundabout that it adds a half hour or more to the trip. On the other hand, it’s hilarious to hear GPS lady mispronounce things. Comic relief on a road trip.

I’m a map person. Folded, spilled on, crinkly, over used — yep, paper maps. GPS came with the car I rented in LA and all I can say is, YOUHAVEGOTOBEKIDDING! Twice I was taken to the wrong place, and I mean the WRONG place. Plus, the woman who speaks to the driver is MEAN and by the end of the day I was barking a few unladylike things at her. Just use a map.
