Gordon J Lau Elementary School

The best school. My daughter loves attending this elementary school. Love her three teachers Ms. Lum, Ms. Choi, and Ms. Pham. Love the staff super friendly and sweet and loving and caring… need I say more. Principal is kind he works closely with sfpd and dpt to ensure safety of our kids.

My friend has been a teacher there for a long time and it’s a great place to volunteer. Chinatown is a great community and the preschool is bilingual which is a plus for sure. They go on all kinds of cool field trips – the zoo, the Exploratorium, the Aquarium, Academy of Sciences, the De Young!

I came here for elementary school and I still come back from time to time to visit all of my old teachers. It is crazy on how times have changed. I miss my time here at Gordon J. Lau. The majority of this school is Chinese because it is in Chinatown. every year they perform in the New Year Parade! I remember I was in it one year.

I thought my 100^th review should be about some place meaningful… back in the day, Gordon Lau was Commodore Stockton Elementary. I fondly remember walking through Chinatown daily, occasionally stopping for a pineapple bun with my family on our way to school. Sometimes, we stopped at the little market on Stockton Street for some Now & Later candy for 10 cents. At school was where many of us Chinese kids experienced our first Christmas holiday– teachers gave us Garfield folders pencils one year. One of my favorite memories was during Recess when the girls would meet in the hallways for Dance Club– where a couple of the teachers would help us choreograph dance moves to the latest Madonna song. Our school was anything but fancy, but I always felt safe. I stopped by a couple of years ago when one of my favorite teachers, Mrs Lim was principal for a short while. I saw that Mr Fung was still running the computer lab. He’s been there since before the Apple II E days.
