Glen Park Elementary School

Not very happy at all my sons both were bullied verbal and phiscally told the teachers principal nothing was done maybe because i’m dark skined not white. And the after school program not worth paying 50 dollers. My first oldest went he cried and would beg me not to leave him at the after school program he had no choice I work… one day I picked him up from the program he was crying I ask him what happen he said that one of the after school help made him cry because he couldn’t get his homework right no reason… I was so upset I went to go talk to the after school teacher she smells like an ash tray .I couldn’t stand the cigarette smell should not be smoking period around kids school etc not cool… so I went to talk to her not to nice I asked her why did that man make my son cry she asnwerd and said oh no I don’t think he made your son cry he is an excellent man he just had a baby and he’s my friend. So right there I knew that she was not trying to here me because there good friends. you Dont fratanize with coworker to avoid situation like mines… no point across I left even more pissed than I already was… do u know what I did I took him out of the program and. The next morning I got Up and went down to 555 Franklin st to make a school transfer and he left that school. Same problem with my youngest and guess what even the principle hanged up on me all because I was wondering what the FUCK is going on excuse my French… I Don’t KNW is it because of race color I get that allot were I go with my kids because I’m Latina with tats and dark skinned with kids… so I also made a school transfer for my youngest… and I’m soooooooo happy that he is. No longer going to glen park what a relief for me as a parent…

We were originally not very excited to be assigned to Glen Park, but after being there a year, I have to say there is a LOT to like about this school! The new principal, Jean Robertson, is experienced, positive and energetic. The PTO is only a few years old and has a shoestring, DIY feel. They don’t have sky-​high expectations for parent volunteers, they are happy for any help the parents can provide, and the lack of cliquishness and politics is refreshing. All the teachers I’ve met are great. My child has done well here academically with very little homework stress, and his teacher has been responsive to his needs. I like that things are pretty casual and low-​key, and the school carnival and parties have been lots of fun! I had the impression that there was no real arts/​drama instruction to speak of, but it turned out that I just wasn’t aware of it or invited to the kids’ performances, so that’s something the school could do better. And they need to go ahead with a greening project in the schoolyard, as I think they are planning to do, so that the kids have some plants and dirt to play on, in or near. Overall I would say that this school is still improving, but it’s on an upward path and will keep getting better with time. I would recommend it as a great neighborhood choice.
