Friends Bar

Ya know how everybody misses their old bar that was full of characters before it got mowed over & replaced by condos? Or got invaded by douchey people? This is like your old bar before all that happened.

Nice joint, relaxed. Little patio in the back, pool table. Everyone’s friendly, of course.

I love this bar. Great atmosphere good people. Evelyn and Rudy are the best. Finding parking is sometimes difficult. But definitely is worth driving around the block a few times. Has a pool table jukebox and plenty of tvs. They also have a foosball table that is addictive. Did I mention that the pool table game is only 50 cents. There is a patio area that is great to step out and relax for a while. I’m definitely going to be back soon.

Just like the name suggests… friendly neighborhood bar, kind of place where you can go relax and have a few beers with friends & neighbors after a hard day at work. Evelyn, is an amazing woman who knows all her regulars on a first name basis.

Great bar to hang out at on a Friday night. Got here tonight and there was a birthday party going on. Everyone was having a great time and the bartenders are the best. I will continue to come here on the weekends.

I’m sorry, Jay N but I think you visited a different bar from Friends. I have never, ever seen Evelyn, the owner, trash talk a customer, and I have never seen anyone follow another customer to the restroom, with the exception of me and my GF who are blind and are taken there sighted guide, but, then again, this isn’t following. I think a paranoia pill was put in whatever you were drinking. Evelyn loves her customers, and wouldn’t talk s**t about them, nor let someone follow them to the restroom to carry on a conversation that was, basically, unwanted. Like someone else said, I am glad you won’t be coming back. To misrepresent Friends the way you did is an insult to the establishment. Evelyn, Rudy and crew? You rock! Pay no mind to the haters on here!

Been here on a few occasions but this past visit will definitely be the last. I could hear the owner, Evelyn, talk sh! t about customers coming and going. I’m all for supporting local businesses but this place is seedy (one of their «regulars» followed me to the bathroom and tried to have a conversation with me through the door, WTF?). The negative talk and vibe from the owner left a bad taste in my mouth… or was it the drink she made incorrectly? SMH. This place does not live up to its name. ‘NOT Friends Bar’ would be more appropriate.

I came here for the first time yesterday from LA and had an awesome experience! I would definitely recommend visiting this bar if you’re from out of town.
They have a very friendly atmosphere and the best part is they have a pool table and it only costs 50 CENTS a game! Cheapest I’ve ever seen.

What an unfriendly place. I live two blocks from here and have been here maybe twice. Last time I went I was informed there is a $ 20 (!!) minimum for debit/​credit cards. Go fuck yourselves, guys. Just so everyone knows, businesses aren’t actually allowed to do this; it’s a violation of the contract they sign with Visa/​MasterCard and in some states it actually illegal. I don’t know how this place has so many positive reviews.

Chill, friendly and harass free neighborhood bar. Bring friends or make new ones there. Owner and bartender is awesome.

Friends Bar is the epitome of the local friendly dive bar: been around for years, barely has room for the pool and Foosball tables, & amazing service.
My friends live within spitting distance, and have already made friends with Rudy, the awesome bartender. They have a few beers on tap, but you mostly come for the mixed drinks. And hot dogs. My friends raved about the hot dogs, and they were ordered during our three rounds there. We also saw some hot sake being served, and at least one margarita.
The ambiance is simple: tv on an old CRT tv in the corner, mainly the bar but some high and low tables, a juke box, a pool table, and Foosball table towards the back. Trust me, it isn’t any bigger on the inside from initial view, and capacity was around 49.
According to Rudy, the weekends are as follows
Friday Night: gets packed early as they are a pregame destination for locals.
Saturday Night: gets packed late as they are a last call destination for locals.
Saturday night we did see the place double in size in a short period of time, though we were the youngest.
So if you are on Monterrey and looking for a nice spot to grab a drink whether you are heading out or heading in, I recommend giving Friends a try.

This neighborhood dive bar has just the right amount of personality. Very chill, cheap, and basic. Good for groups. Solid foosball table.

Bartender was a little TOO friendly, though. As in continuing to ask if we wanted to get another drink after we had declined several times, then brought us free shots (which was super sweet except that we weren’t lying when we said we didn’t want another drink… one person was pregnant, the other was driving and I am keeping myself to a two drink maximum after a few embarrassing nights where 3 became 4 became me on the floor.) I actually was really annoyed but i feel bad docking stars because we were given free stuff.
No means no, man.

This is the perfect Bar. Great Owner, Great atmosphere, relaxed, ad filled with memorable people. A great place to bring friends and a great place to make some.

This place is a little gem on Monterey Blvd.

How did Evelyn refuse me service when I didn’t even ask for it in the first place? This is what happened; my friend (who is a girl) and I sat down at the bar. Right after a few guys walked in the door and sat down at the bar as well. Evelyn (the owner and bartender) walks past us and goes straight to the guys. It was obvious we were there first, but she chose to ignore us. Both my friend and I started asking her why she ignored us and she made up some story about me slamming the door on her foot??? How would that ever happen if she is always behind the bar? Anyway, she proceeded to yell at me and call me a «F***ing Bi***». If you are the owner of a bar and you want people to respect you, you do NOT call them that.
My friend and I have had numerous problems with her when we go there. She always complains that we get guys to buy us drinks and we never spend money. Why does she care? She is still getting business and people are buying drinks? It sounds to me like she is a bit jealous because she is past her prime. This incident what the cherry on top and we will NEVER return.

The staff and the clientele are super nice.
Decent, internet connected, jukebox, nice pool table and an outdoor covered patio so smokers don’t have to get all rainy.
They serve hot dog type items and have popcorn, as well.

Cool dive bar on Monterrey — I would go here more often if there was more parking. The first time I was here Rudy was the bartender and the guy was super cool with a great attitude.
Since then I’ve seen Patty several times, even though she understands only about ¹⁄₁₀ of what I’m saying, she’s always smiling and pours a good drink. And if you are looking to buy a Honda, please buy it from her and give me the credit.
Also, I’ve met some really cool people here, a nice young couple, and one time there was this guy that has the most amazing wine cellar compared to most restaurants! So even though it’s a dive bar — a lot of interesting people with class walk through those doors.

Seriously, how can you have SF Giant’s memorabilia in your bar and not even show the game? And Timmy had a no no going? Dude.
While the bar itself is pretty nice with a foosball and pool table that’s $.50, a couple couches around a fake fireplace, something was lacking.
All the songs on the jukebox were all relatively new. C’mon, T-​pain? Fergie? Black eyed peas? Man, I can listen to that stuff on the radio. Where’s Prince? Gun’s n Roses? Where’s the flavor?
