Francis Scott Key Elementary School

Building has been finished for a while it looked fantastic, more brighter and neater. Principal has been changed too, everybody and everything are different than before. I hope people will consider bringing their kids to this school and get educated by all these wonderful and lovely caring teachers.

I loved this school. Close to Ocean Beach and the slot car races. My first day at SFSK I got in a fight with Dave Toma. We became great friends in 6^th school. I lived on 47^th and Judah. Back then the Park was cool. Hated the fog, loved the beach.

I came here for summer school when I was really little, but my teacher wasn’t even a teacher who taught regularly at FSK. So no review for that.
REVIEW IS FOR THE PLAY STRUCTURE THAT I GO TO ON THE WEEKENDS WHEN THERE ARE NO SMALL CHILDREN!
Oh man. I love the little play structure. It’s a bit small… obviously. :P Hehe. I don’t know, I’m still a little kid! I can’t ever resist a playground or play structure. I’m glad that there’s this one so close to home. It’s not dirty or grimey like the ones at places with a sandbox. I really don’t like those because I get sand in my shoes. then I have to empty out my shoes. then theres always those few pieces of sand that don’t leave and I take them home with me and when I’m walking around barefoot, I get pieces of sand stuck on my feet.
THIS PLACE HAS NO SAND. YAY! :)

I’m concerned by Hershel S.‘s review, both because I am troubled that he/​she appears to be so unhappy, and also because of the very negative impression his/​her reviews presents of what I consider to be overall a lovely «hidden gem» of a school in the Outer Sunset.
For the record, I am a non-​Asian parent of 2 non-​Asian students and I have never felt discriminated against in any way at FSK. To the contrary, my children and I have been welcomed with open arms to this diverse community of teachers, parents and administrators.
No school is perfect and FSK is no exception to this general rule, but overall I have found the teaching to be top notch, the student body to be comprised of intelligent, well behaved children, and the PTA to be chock full of amazing, dynamic parents.
I am especially delighted by the after school elective program in which students may take knitting, art, kung-​fu, etc. for free, and the after school Mandarin program based on an immersion model.
I am not certain whether Hershel S. is a current parent. If he/​she is and feels his/​her child was not adequately served, I am very sorry to hear that. For those of you considering FSK, I would urge you to tour and make up your own mind.

We completed two years at Francis Scott Key Elementary. We chose it on the simple premise that it was three blocks from our house. I knew nothing about the school, quite frankly I could not be bothered with the whole lottery drama, I just wanted the school close to our house. Well we got the school and I was so surprised that it turned out to be a real hidden gem. First and foremost the teaching staff and principle are what make the school top notch. I was always impressed by the dedication and involvment of the teaching staff and the determination of the principle in make sure the school got all available resources. The parents were amazing and we had such a great group on the PTA that it was always good times… even during fundraising! We are really like a big huge family. I was too disturbed by the review I read from Hershel S… I would have to wonder if this person is harboring a grudge for some reason. My children are not Chinese and I always felt as if everyone was fair, took great care of my children (one is not even attending, yet everyone on staff new him), and were dedicated to providing an unbiased environment for all students!
Not sure what principle this person speaks of as our current one has been here for 9 years.
I would highly recommend this school to anyone who values committed teachers, a wonderful facility, a dedicated principle and an overall great well disiplined student body… did I mention all the awesome families that have made this school home! At least take a tour, you won’t be disappointed. We have relocated to the east coast… and I was very sad to leave FSKey!

Living in the mid Sunset, I found the location of Francis Scott Key to be optimal. The building is in good condition, and most importantly, the principal is both respected and endearing to the children. I also like the whimsical computer projects, the band, and the after school enrichment program. 4 stars.
