Fox Rent A Car San Francisco

I booked this company because they had the most competitive rates online. Had I known the check-​in process would take longer than my 50 minute flight from LA, I would never have booked from them. I arrived at the desk around 9:45pm but did not get my car until after 11pm. They need to work on their system because it should not take this long. There was probably about 9 people in front of me when I got in the line for the counter. The car they gave me was not clean but no way did I want to wait any longer than I already had. Think I will think twice from renting from them again.

Beware! They rip you off after your trip is over by charging you $ 15.00 for each toll you go through in maintenance fees plus the price of each toll.

Cheap rental online, simple service. The counter-​rep definitely upsells services, but hey, you have to defend your choices. I was surprised at the bad reviews on Unilocal.Worked pretty well for the price.

You get what you pay for! It just seemed too good to be true & it sure was.
I had two cars rented & paid for so it shouldn’t have been a hassle for the consultants when they flew into SFO. Boy, was I wrong.
First, they had to wait 30+ mins to even inquire about the reservation.
Second, they didn’t have a car that was in the price range that the reservation was made so they had to put them in a more expensive car. I may be a newb when it comes to car rental reservations but it seems like this is what they always do. Quite sketchy & schemy but I guess that’s just the business, correct me if I am wrong.
Third, the deposit is paid by the driver even if you put a credit card on file to be charged for the entire reservation. The deposit that was paid was $ 150 per rental. I know there is a deposit for car rentals anyways but I just don’t understand why the driver has to pay for it when there is a credit card on file already that was given at the time of reservation. Again, it might be me who has this issue but whatevs.
I immediately called customer service after my consultants let me know about how much getting the car rental was. I was on hold for about 45 mins until I gave up. What’s the point of having a customer service line when no one answers? Not even a voicemail, nothing. Just hold music for the entire time. Ridiculous. It definitely fueled this review. I am not going to lie.
I finally gave up on the trying to get a hold of them via phone so I turned to emailing. I believe that this would be the best option because answering the phone doesn’t seem to be something they are familiar with at FOX. I am just sayin’
They got back to me about 3 days later. When I have already figured it out.
They are no help.
They have one of the WORSE CUSTOMER SERVICE I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED.
Calling them on the phone is like dying a slow death.
Emailing them is like shooting yourself in the foot.
Pick your poison.
I say to just splurge and go for a company that will actually care about their customers after the reservation is made.

In the past, I’ve had pretty decent experiences w/​Fox. The last 2 times I’ve been there, there have been SHORT lines that take a half hour to get through, they make no effort to expedite at least those of us who have reserved in advance, and they were RUDE to a guy who very reasonably spoke out loud to complain in line.
AND — they charged me a fine for a toll I PAID. I faxed proof of payment from FASTRAK that included the liscence plate and the date and yet they asked for MORE proof telling me I could email it to an address that bounces back. The phone number on the email appears to be from a representative but it’s just their general automated payment number. What a SCAM! These toll plate companies are unregulated and out of hand. Fox need to get ON IT and do something about this.

35 minutes behin8 people at SFO wasn’t great but then another 25 in the garage waiting for a car. Love the prices but I will pay more elsewhere next time…

I have been standing in line for 20 mins others have been here for an hour. This is the second time this has happened to me. I will never use Fox again. They just run too lean.

Please save your time and effort and rent a car elsewhere. This is my first time renting and it will be my last. I’ve rented cars many times before when traveling and this is the first time I’ve encountered problems with a car rental place. We reserved for a midsize car and they didn’t have a mid-​size car ready for us. I understand it’s the holidays but it’s also your responsibility to have the proper car for us. They made us wait almost an hour only to give us a small economy size car that wasn’t going to suffice our needs. What made matters worse is the car has maintenance problems, so now we have to return it.

Reserving online was easy enough. However, once at the terminal location it was obvious this is a terrible business. Desk had moved with no instructions so had to search for it. We wanted to use another card to pay for the car but you can’t change drivers or payment method once you have reserved online.
Lady tried to lazily up-​sell us throughout and was rude and or drunk. I believe she looked up from her screen maybe a couple times.
This company uses dishonest pricing. The price you see online has little to do with what you pay. 20 $ service fee tacked on at the end just to rub it it.
Use national or hertz or anywhere else. This place doesn’t care at all about your business.

Buyer beware: you will get what you pay for when you use Fox. Of course they are the least expensive (i.e. CHEAPER) then any other rental co. at SFO, but truly think what that means:
1. Bottom-​of-​the-​barrel customer service, specifically super long wait times (about ¹⁵⁄₂₀ min per person in line), constant up-​selling throughout the entire process by the few available desk reps, and game playing b/​t desk reps and staff handing out cars.
2. Inflexible on-​line reservation system and game-​playing with their «requires car deposit system».
3. Staff must be treated poorly by corporate system and managers as they truly don’t give a fuck about you as a customer. Why should they as they themselves can only be treated poorly.
I have used Fox on-​and –off for the past 15 years and mo more. My co-​pilot finally left the line yesterday after waiting 45 minutes w/​at least another 30 minutes in store, walked up to National, and was in our rental car, driving out of the parking lot in seven minutes. Yes, I paid $ 50 more compared to crummy Fox, but the experience at National was 100% better and no issues.
For your own sanity, do not place your dollar vote with Fox – spend your hard earned money elsewhere. You will be glad you did and so will your friends and family.

I have been using Fox Rent a car for a while now and have not had any negative experiences.
This is the first time renting in SF though and everything went smoothly.
I waited about 10 minutes in line and after I showed them my reservation # and drivers license they printed the paper work and I was ready to go get my car. It was a no hassle situation. Once I arrived to the location to pick up the car, my car was already ready. I waited maybe 5 minutes. When I returned the car around 4 am the clerk was professional and fast, I was done with everything right away.
My experience–
PROS: Did NOT have to wait in a long line. CHEAP cost. Fast service.
Negatives: NONE!

Worst company in North America. Period.
I booked with Fox online. My flight was cancelled and I had to take the flight the next day. So I wasn’t able to pick up my car at the agreed upon date/​time as I originally had intended when I booked online.
So after my 12 hour flight the next day, I waited for over an hour in Fox’s line at SFO. This was the only line like this in the whole rental area at SFO. When I got to the counter they told me that, because I wasn’t there to pick up the car at the agreed upon time the day before, they cancelled the rental agreement. They told me that I could still rent a car but it would cost double the price that I originally had agreed to pay online. Fine, my bad luck. I told them I wasn’t interested and went to a different car rental company, promising never to consider giving Fox my business ever again. That should have been it. But here’s the thing…
THEY STILL CHARGED MY CREDIT CARD THE FULL AMOUNT FOR A RENTAL CAR THAT I NEVER PICKED UP AFTER THEY TOLD ME IN PERSON THAT THE RENTAL AGREEMENT WAS CANCELLED AND THAT I HAD TO REBOOK!!! Two months later they still haven’t returned the money. They think it’s ok to just charge you $ 300 and never give you anything in return.
Whoever owns Fox should be put in jail.

I’ve booked with them twice at San Francisco airport. Each time the price was fantastic, and the first time the car was great.
But be warned: Both times the line at the desk was horrendously long (over one hour). I’m not sure if it was just demand; but I noticed they only had two counter stations open while other companies had more.
The second time I had to bail out and switch to Hertz, which was very quick. If I had stayed in the Fox line it was going to be 2 hours and I would have been late to my destination.
So if you can risk the wait, the price is much cheaper than other companies, but do factor in that potential wait time.

The one and only reason I use this service is because it is so much cheaper than all of the other companies. It’s also worth noting that Fox owns Payless rental cars, so that’s the same company.
Expect to wait. And keep waiting. And keep waiting. This is a busy airport with a lot of foreign people renting cars (which has always weirded me out… do they understand US driving laws?) Most of these people do not have reservations, and will take 10 minutes deciding what car they want. Try not to yell at them.
The staff at this location is rude. They will ignore you and even yell at you if they feel like it. One guy yelled at me when I was next in line that «he didn’t call anybody up here yet, so get back.» I seriously hadn’t even moved towards the counter.
At the very least, they don’t push you into getting their insurance if you are covered by your own insurance or credit card. Realistically, I think it’s because they don’t really care.
Once you make it to the counter, expect to wait some more. They they will take your cards, and then talk with each other while ignoring you. It is weird. This is not a typical rental car experience. They will have to radio to the garage to get a car for you, and you have to wait until they relay the ID number to put on your rental agreement. This entire process is inefficient and stupid.
Once you make it to the garage, you will have to wait in line (again) to get to the service counter for them to go get your car. Sometimes, they cannot find your car, even though it has to be there since they just radioed up the ID number. Seriously. Dumb.
Make sure you do a good walk around, because they will try to get every dime the can out of you, and these cars have seen better days. There are tons of scratches, and don’t forget to mark the jacked up rims (on the wheels) from people hitting the curbs.
When returning the car, give yourself plenty of time because it can take quite a while to drive through the rat’s maze of SFO to get back to the rental car building. This isn’t Fox’s fault, but it is relevant.
Once you get to their return area, that process is pretty painless. Just pull up and wait for someone to come scan your car. That should be it — no fuss there.

30 min so far on this line on the lower level at SFO. There are 2 attendants «servicing» the lengthy line… finally third in line and one of the workers goes on break. The customer next in line pleaded he stay back and he said «nope gotta take my break» and left this long line to the sole attendant remaining.
Update (37 min later) we have our car. The attendant actually tried to upsell us and everything. These ppl are a class act.
Run. Run for the hills. Whatever discount they are offeeing… it isn’t worth it!

NEVER EVER AGAIN! OVERCHARGED! Didn’t have the car I reserved or anything that resembled the car I wanted. I was taking a good friend for a nice bday gift and was planning a sports car and ended with a sub par SUV. This was after 2.5 hours of dealing with issues at the counter. They said they reduced my charge from 95 to 65 which included everything, but they charged my credit card $ 250. Not only was I late for my dinner reservation, but I was in a crap car that I paid too much for. They also refused to refund or work with me on the charges.
F– this place, steer clear!
Oh yeah, plan to wait in line for an hour.

Where do I start…
I rented a car from Fox yesterday and maybe we should begin with the line…
When I got the the desk at SFO, The line was insanely long and there were only 2 workers. After the first 30 minutes in line, two more workers showed up, but then two left for break!
30 more minutes later, one of them came back with coffee and sour gummy bears in hand!
With that long of a line, no one should be leaving!
If I ever did that at my work, I would be fired…
They only had 1 walkie talkie for the entire staff!
Shouldn’t there be some kind of POS system?
An hour and 45 minutes or more later, I finally got to the front desk!
My pick up time was at 3, I got there a little earlier than 2:30 and didn’t get my car until about 4:20 — 4:30.
I WAS LATE TO MY SISTER’S WEDDING AND MISSED THE ENTIRE CEREMONY!!!
I can’t believe the service!
It took me longer to get my car than my flight to San Francisco took!
I’m returning the car tomorrow and I better not miss my flight because of the terrible service!
This was completely unacceptable!

One of the worst car renting experiences ever. The line was over 30 people long, which is fairly usual with any car agency at San Francisco Airport during some hours of the day. The frustrating part was that to handle such rush they only had 3 people working at the counter. Each representative took ~15 mins with one customer, which made it a 2.5 hrs long wait for me just to reach the counter after the flight, needless to say it spoiled most of my plans for the day. This is just the most ridiculous length of time I had to wait to get a rental car. Most other companies like budget, hertz etc serviced over 90 customers in the same amount of time.
The system with which they distributed cars out was also very inefficient. They had to check with the garage office for each customer, and see if there was a car available. The icing on the cake was that the staff was rude at best and was trying to sell 2 to 3 different types of insurances to you very desperately. I think this is the last time I will be renting from fox, especially from an airport location.
Poor management, poor service, poor system for distribution in 21^st century is just not acceptable. The company is experience and San Francisco Airport Fox Rental is zero stars worthy.

Rented a full size for 4 days. I don’t remember how much for. I think it was 30/​day. However, my bf wasn’t reading and signing, which was his mistake, and agreed to the 4 $/​day roadside assistance. We got super jipped on that and the basic insurance that only covers dents and scratches.
It was our fault in our side for not reading the fine print. So I’m not cross about that.
The guy who helped us with the rental and really nice and actually made conversation about our trip. This was a booking late at night too. And one of the only rentals that are open late.
One thing I will complain about is that the person who had the car before was a heavy cigarette smoker and it reeked when we went in. They didn’t do I good job at cleaning the car. In the back, there was cherry pits and residue all over the cup holders.
