History

Established in 2009.

Ian Carruthers, co-​owner and primary filmmaker, has been making movies since he was a kid. He and his wife, Jo Nemoyten (co-​owner and CEO) are both writers, performers, musicians and artists who have spent many years supporting their artistic endeavors by working in administrative and technical fields.

In 2009, the couple decided to create foolish tree films as a way to use their creative, administrative and technical super powers to make one-​of-​a-​kind movies for their clients.

Whether you are a small business looking to build your client base or an established one wanting to take advantage of the overwhelming trend toward video promotion, we want to put all our skills to use for you!

Jo and Ian N.

Business Owner

Jo and Ian have been very happily married since 1998 and having a business together hasn’t caused any talk of divorce! Ian is the face of the business, as the main filmmaker and sales director while Jo supports the back end with keeping the books and managing all web and graphic design. They both enjoy editing and often work together to create the video that will take your business to the next level!

I work for the Electronic Frontier Foundation, and foolish tree films helped us create our 2009 end-​of-​the-​year campaign video.
The folks at foolish tree films were fantastic to work with. We threw a lot of curveballs at them, since we’re not an organization that’s used to doing this kind of complex creative process. Plus, we don’t know anything about video. foolish tree was exactly the right combination of being really receptive to our feedback, while steering us away from some of our less than smart ideas. In short, they knew what would and wouldn’t work.
We would absolutely use foolish tree films again, and can’t recommend them highly enough. Working with them was a purely positive experience.
