25 years, yes YEARS of great haircuts. Shannon the owner has never ONCE taken a short cut, rushed or failed to produce a cut that produces a constant stream of compliments — hard to believe but completely true. Shannon is a true professional (never been late once), no doubt top tier stylist. My daughter has had her hair done at Flip as well and the cuts and her ombré color was like night and day compared to salons in East Bay. Atmosphere is very relaxed but classy. Very easy to get to via Muni or car with decent parking for SF. Plus location is in a fun and upcoming neighborhood with unique shops and eats to check out for those who don’t live there. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Not only was Shannon rude but had some terrible energy.
I am an ER doctor, and I deal with multiple personalities on a daily basis, and hers sucked ass for a stylist.
I am not a picky girl, and this is the first time in my life I have had to run to another place to fix my hair.
Worse haircut I have gotten.
I basically did a panicked Unilocal search this morning after seeing how terrible my hair looked.
Thanksfully, hair is fixed 180 $ later. The stylist said «whoever cut my hair» is not supposed to own scissors. The stylist today said she cussed in russian after she saw what she had to fix. She complementary evened out my top highlights because they didn’t look natural. She pointed out how blatantly the two sides were of unequal length.
I am not one to complain, but I had to put this up. I tend to go with the flow and be grateful for what I have.
Lesson learned: groupon for hair may not be great. Contact me for pictures & I’ll show you what terrible haircut I got. I would be more forgiving had I been treated decently.

Partial highlights and cut from from Shannon — wonderful! She spent over 2 hours on my hair and made it look just the way I wanted. I also loved the vibe in the salon — fresh, clean and relaxed. Will definitely be going back.

Some advice for Flip – if you offer a groupon, it’s probably because you are wanting to grow your customer base, generate business. When groupon users call in to book an appointment, you should be kind and friendly. not bummed because they are getting a discounted cut. More importantly, you should book new customers with your *best* stylists, you want your new customers to want to return, don’t you?
I was not told the name of my stylist when I booked, he did not introduce himself nor did he ask my name. (I’ll call him «X»). X did not take the time to really understand what kind of cut I wanted or my personal style. X cut my hair too short and when he was blowing it out, I had to point out to him that one side was longer than the other. To fix it, needed to cut it shorter. .and he gave me bangs when I told him I hated bangs. ugh. My do looks like an aged newscaster from Fox Tv. Ew.
I was clearly sad about my new look when I was leaving, someone offered to fix it for me. but of course, that meant cutting it shorter.
I had higher expectations for you flip. so disappointed.

I found the blond i wanted on pinterest– and brought that photo to flip salon, and i can say I love my hair so much! Shannon listened to what i wanted and I now have beautiful summer blonde hair! Halla! finally someone who knows what they are doing.

I got my hair cut by Ashley and she was amazing! I had hair down to my navel and cut it into a chin-​length bob. It was evident throughout my appointment how well versed Ashley was in hair care as she continuously answered my questions about different styling techniques and products. I highly recommend her!
Where I was dissatisfied was in the results of my sister’s haircut and color. Shannon was her stylist for the day and did not execute the requested ombré. She stated the procedure needed two appointments and did not have the blue/​purple color my sister wanted; she carries only blonds, browns, and reds. My sister ended up paying the most she ever had for a haircut, and did not obtain nearly close to the look she had envisioned.

Flip is right in my neighborhood half a block away from my apartment. I’ve been passing by the salon everyday for work and have been wanting to stop in for ages.
I’m going to start first with my positive experience:
My haircut from Ashley. It was absolutely hands down, best haircut I’ve ever had! She get’s 10 stars!!! The wash was nice and relaxing and she really took her time on my unmanageably thick hair to make sure she really got it all dry and then flat ironed it straight. It was fabulous.
~Definitely not the most welcoming salon. Cold vibes for sure and not much cheeriness going on. ~
Now for the not so good part:
My first interaction with the salon was over the phone, very curt to say the least. I wasn’t sure if I wanted just a haircut or a haircut and a color, and after the receptionist was very snappy on the phone, I settled on just a cut; it was right before Christmas so I do completely understand they were busy. I definitely thought twice about going in because the snap on the phone was a red flag, but I was desperate.
Glad I went in.
My cut was so good that I decided I would spring for the Brazilian blowout groupon they had! (Like I previously said, my hair is thick curly and so hard to manage. I’ve been reading up on the blowout for months.) After purchasing it I emailed and called to book an appointment.
Couple days pass, and I believe her name is Shannon, called back to let me know what she had available. Availability this week! In my excitement I remembered I had forgotten to let her know I had a groupon, her tone changed suddenly, she grilled me on how I even got a groupon «they’ve been sold out for months» hmm okay regardless I purchased it with real money. Well now she had availability in the following week… hmmm okay, alright, I just needed it in time for an event, booked it and told her I had such a great haircut from Ashely previously, uh oh! ONLY FIRST TIME CLIENTS! (Not only did I not see the fine print, but I’ve never had a Brazilian at their salon before) couldn’t take me for a client! Wow! So freaked out that I lost my money I spent the rest of the day trying to get refunded, which after a couple of freak out hours, the refund ended up going smoothly. Once I got refunded I immediately purchased a groupon for the original place I wanted, that had rave reviews. When I called the other salon I let her know I had a groupon right away, in which I apologized and asked her if that changed what she had available she said «why would that change anything honey?» The other salon laughed about how Flip wouldn’t take me as a customer because I wasn’t a «first time customer» they said «you’d never had a Brazilian there so you were a first time customer!»
Needless to say, I cancelled my other appointment with Flip for a color I had booked. Sad to say I won’t be returning. Which is a shame because once I find a place I like, I’m a loyal costumer.

Very unfriendly service. Haircut was probably the worst haircut I’ve had in 10+ years.

Had the groupon $ 99 for a haircut and partial highlights I loved what Ashley did to my hair the highlights came out great better than I was expecting and the cut was great too! such a good deal I would come back!

Hmmm, so I’ve been searching for a new salon after my stylist moved to NY. It’s been hard to find someone who matches my style and expectations and also, friggin expensive! So, I’ve tried using discount vouchers when going to a new salon because it’s harder to swallow spending $ 260+ for cut and highlights you hate than it is half that price, am I right ladies?
Anyway, made an appointment here last week for partial highlight and cut. I wanted to take my long (but very damaged) hair to a long bob. I could tell there was an issue with my highlights as soon as I was in the bowl because she kept rubbing areas around my crown and went back to get different toners to put on my head… red flag! So when we got to the chair I could see right away that some of the highlights were very brassy and later saw that the color wasn’t even throughout the hair shaft at all! Meaning it was a different color in my roots than ½ inch down the hair shaft.
Then comes the cut. I asked for a textured long bob with a slight invert, meaning I wanted it a little longer in the front than the back. Well in the consult she was talking about layers and I objected because a textured bob is different than a short haircut with layers… so I started getting uneasy when I saw haircutting techniques that reminded me of the suburban haircuts I got living in the midwest in high school. I was immediately unhappy with the look. It wasn’t even remotely longer in the front and had layers which made it flip outward. Basically, I got a fucking mid-​western soccer mom haircut. Then, to make things WORSE, it’s completely uneven… I mean, way longer on one side than the other and its really hard to hide that with a shorter haircut. I’ll attach a picture to prove.
So, needless to say I’m not happy and will be wearing my hair in messy beach waves indefinitely until I can cough up the dough for a good haircut to fix this mess.
Edit to add: I agree with the general consensus that Shannon is rude. She gave me the bitchiest vibe ever when I was getting checked in– no greeting, no smile, cold look… but whatever. My stylist was very pleasant but the overall vibe in the salon was very unwelcoming.

I came here because of some coupon I bought from a discount site. I didn’t want to report this, but it was probably the least effective Brazilian Blowout I’ve ever had. I can usually go 4 – 6 months after a treatment, but I realized right away that it wasn’t going to be the case after the first blow dry. It was less than 2 months ago that I went in and I’m already back on Unilocal now in order to try to find a stylist to schedule another one. I felt like the stylist was really nice, but I wouldn’t go back for a BB.

The review here seems like a split between complete love and hate.
I had a mix feeling too as I got a haircut from Shanon. She probably is a good hair stylist. I left generally happy with the result — she followed exactly what was discussed in the consultation. But in general the service felt rushed and the attitude detached. Was offered a drink but never had time to enjoy it. Tipped out of courtesy but no single smile. I used Groupon so it was a-​ok, but probably wouldn’t want to go back paying the full price for the level of service they provide. Need to step up a notch to attract more customer.

Spoke with several people about how much highlights can cost, and I came to conclusion that they are indeed pretty reasonable!
I am so happy to finally have found my place to go for my highlights and cuts. I am a very happy customer and I am happy to have found ASHLEY! She is a true talent, extremely knowleadgeable and absolutely amazing. I highly recommend her!
From my previous post, I mentioned that I was also a first time Groupon customer. I am so biased when it comes to groupon because I have had negative experience in the past. But sometimes good things happen to people who are «cheap» like me. And that is, that I have finally found the salon that I am so happy with.

I love FLiP! After years of searching for a go-​to place, I have finally found it. I decided to try it because I purchased a coupon and was thoroughly impressed. I have since been back for two more visits. Shannon is fantastic and I trust her. She always understands exactly what I am looking for with my highlights and cut. I definitely recommend her. Great salon, professional staff and one super happy customer. 5 stars all the way.

I;ve been going to this salon for about 8 years. Have since moved to North Bay but still make the drive (nearly 2 hrs each way) to see Shannon Kitchen-​Juarez because I trust her to keep my very short pixie looking fresh and stylish, as opposed to middle-​aged and dowdy, always a risk with short greying hair. Shannon colors my hair (platinium highlights to brighten up the natural salt-​and-​pepper) as well as cuts it and she does a great job. My hair is thin and mousy in its natural state, but since she has been cutting and coloring it, people actually stop me on the street to ask who does my hair. Enthusiastically recommended.

Don’t take my word for it: in the several months since I used a Groupon at FLiP to get my pixie haircut, I’ve had the opportunity for other expert stylists to look at and comb through my hair… and they all RAVED about the wonderful job. I confess that I haven’t trimmed it in probably six months or more, and have lightened the hell out of it, but my hair still looks cute!
Minus one star because in email outreach I received from them, FLiP is pricing their men’s cuts cheaper than their ladies. (Other places who want to differentiate do so by the length rather than gender, which makes more sense to me.)

My hair looks better than I even expected! Owner cut my hair, was super friendly, and is an amazing stilist. I have really long and thick hair, and she trimmed and highlighted it exactly how I wanted.
Would rcommend Flip to anyone!!!

My haircut is just okay. ACTUALLY I was really upset after the I-​just-​got-​a-​haircut buzz wore off, but my friends and family have since assured me it’s «not that bad.» I’ve heard a lot of «I kind of like it!» comments in my friends’ attempts to make me feel better. This was the first time I haven’t gotten rave reviews on a haircut in my ENTIRE LIFE. This time it was just «Oohhh… Did you get a haircut???» as opposed to «Oh my gosh, your hair looks amazing!» which is what I’ve always gotten after my trims at DiPietro Todd and Code salons. Guess I should have just stuck to the places that I knew were amazing as opposed to going to FLiP for the sake of trying a cute, smaller salon closer to my house.
I have really thick, long hair, and what I love about getting it cut is that the stylists normally thin it out and make it much lighter and more manageable. Sitting in the salon chair, it looked fine, so I said that I loved it (my mistake), but when I left and ran my fingers through it, it was SO HEAVY. Also, whatever stuff she used on it made it kind of sticky… Not sleek and shiny. I did tell her that I wanted it thinned out, so she put layers in, but the layers are really bulky. I basically have blocks of hair at different lengths. She probably wasn’t used to cutting thick hair??? I’ve been wearing it in a topknot even more than usual now. Just waiting a month or so to let it get a little longer before going back to one of my old places to fix the cut.
C’est la vie.
OH and side note that doesn’t really affect my rating but is still annoying: What’s the point of having a website where you can request an appointment if all you do is call the person and leave a message telling them to call you back? I requested my appointment and specifically asked if they could please EMAIL me instead of call because I’m working on my computer all day and wouldn’t be able to call them back during their business hours. Did they do it? No. They called and left a message. They didn’t even say anything about times that they had available. I tried calling them back like five times the next day, and they never picked up. I left like two messages again asking if they could email me. Still didn’t happen. I had to turn on the volume on my phone while I was at work so that I could pick it up when they called. There’s just no point in having a system where you request appointments online when the next step is calling and calling and calling and calling.

i love Flip because the stylists work with you to get what you want. positive energy, no attitude. I’ve tried at least four different hairstyles and my first foray into color with Flip. Great job every time :)

I can’t say anything about the staff’s talent however I can say that the service here is quite a downer. I had purchased their $ 39 haircut through groupon and set an appointment with the hairstylist. On the day of my appointment, I was in 2 minutes late and the hairstylist refused to cut my hair. This is when I had called them 15 mins prior to let them know that I will be late and was stuck on Friday afternoon traffic on 101N. Driving all the way from South San Francisco and hearing this after I busted my butt trying to get there & look for parking in SF was quite disappointing. The receptionist in the counter, as nice as she was, still didn’t make up for the service especially when she said that she can at least ask the hairstylist if she can just cut my hair but not blow dry it. Of course, that preposterous option was rejected.
If you’re looking for a warm, casual hair salon who goes the extra mile for a customer (and doesn’t place their own interests before the customer) please don’t bother and go find another
