History

Established in 1999.

Flight 001 (pronounced Flight ONE) was conceived in-​flight on May 5th, 1998, aboard an Air France aircraft somewhere between New York and Paris. Brad John and John Sencion, two business travelers who had spent far too much time preparing for their trips over the years, envisioned a holistic travel retail experience that put all their travel product needs under one roof.

Brad and John’s airborn vision soon became a reality. Within six months, the first Flight 001 store opened in the West Village, NYC, and began selling design-​forward luggage and travel accessories created to simplify and enhance the international travel experience.

Extremely helpful, great curated selection of travel gear. Wonderful employees. They stayed late last night helping me pick out a new carry-​on after my Hideo Wakamatsu Flash broke right before a trip. They even gave me advice about getting it repaired under warranty even though I had not purchased it from them!
I ended up picking up one of their F1 Rollaway Carry-​On bags as a replacement. They provide a 5 year warranty, and if anything goes wrong all you need do is bring your bag back to the shop, no shipping large luggage around. They even offered to provide a loaner if my Rollaway needs repair!

This is a fantastic place to stop off if you’re planning a big trip, or just travel a lot in general. While a bit on the more expensive side, they carry some really great travel essentials and really help take packing to the next level (check out the Space Pack cubes — a game changer for me).
With the prices being a premium — I will say it’s worth it. The Customer Service is shockingly fantastic. I had purchased some luggage about 9 months ago, and the zippers had failed. Not only that, it had been discontinued from the store so I couldn’t make an exchange. Without even asking a question, requiring a receipt, etc. the manager gave me a variety of options I could pursue, then end up refunding my money — and didn’t even bat an eyelash. I feel like most places would have somehow blamed me for the faulty zipper or used an excuse about having to go to the manufacture directly. Nope — she just smiled and asked for my credit card.
So many businesses are pennywise, and pound foolish. These folks are not, and have earned a customer for life because their service is so great.
Overall, they’ve recognized it’s the little things that matter — both on and off the road.

I love this store! A little on the more expensive side but it is almost impossible to not walk out without buying something even if you don’t need it! Cool selection of suitcases and small things for a trip you never knew you needed. The employees service is always helpful.

Make sure you test their plug adapters with your devices before you buy! I bought their 4-​in-​1 adaptor. The prongs on my MacBook are too square at the end to push back the plastic shield inside, instead they dig into the plastic, so now I’m stuck with a $ 25 plug adaptor set that’s useless to me.

This is a great and really fun store. From kitchy luggage tags ($ 4 – 10) to upscale bags (Orla Keilly, for example) they have everything you need to really make travel an event. Would be a great place to go for a travel-​themed present.

I came to this travel store because I needed to purchase a underneath-​the-​shirt or around-​the-​waist passport holder and my supervisor suggested I go to this place.
I walked in and not one person greeted me or smiled. I browsed the entire store for at least 10 minutes and again no one came to ask if I was finding what I was looking for. Here’s some context: there was only 4 people in the entire store, including myself! The young lady at the register appeared to be completely disengaged.
Finally, I walked up to her to ask her where the passport holders were, and she unenthusiastically gets up and walks over to the passport holders and «they’re here» in a very dry, unwelcoming way. She then walks off. No «is there anything else I can help you find?» Nothing.
Even though they had exactly what I was looking for, I opted not to purchase it from this location due to poor customer service!
Note to staff: EVERYONE should at least receive a greeting and an inquiry about why they are there. I. e «hello! Welcome to _​_​_​_​_​_​_​. What brings you in today?»
I will not be returning here.

Yesss love me my hipster stores, especially when they’re all about cool travel gear! Some friends and I were just walking down Hayes St when this place caught my eye. It’s awesome. It’s essentially a store for all your traveling necessities and wanderlust desires. They sell suitcases, but they also sell baggies for clothing, small tubes for your travel liquids, travel chargers, charger converters, and a host of other random cool things. They have a few variations of the scratch maps, cool globes, random maps with tourist things and normal maps – I picked up a map of ramen in NYC which I thought was pretty neat.
tldr; The place is basically very quintessential Hayes Valley and hipster… really neat design. I like.

Flight 001 is my special pick-​me-​up place in Hayes Valley. I travel a lot and they always have small things that’ll make things easier when you are juggling 3 bags, 4 airports and 2 continents. Small things you wouldn’t know you wanted/​needed until you walk in the store, pick it up on a whim and begin using it. Anyway, I’ve been a fan for years but have been lazy about writing a review. UNTIL TODAY. I had a bit of a ditzy morning and went back and forth about which suitcase I was going to buy for an upcoming trip (I was due a new one). I bought one, put stuff in it, walked around the block, decided I wanted the other one, and came back to return it. They laughed about it but were super sweet with returns (even though I had _​just_​spent 40 minutes of their time choosing one and buying the other). Anyway, in the hurry, I left behind some stuff in the bag I returned and didn’t realize it till right now (when the shop was about to close). I leave town in a few days and I couldn’t go back to Hayes — so I called to see if they’d just hold it for me till I returned (which would have been useless since the other stuff were all gift) or refund the money to me. What do they do instead? Apologize (for MY silliness), offer to ship to it me and then proceed to INSIST that they overnight it to my work address when I tell them I am leaving town early in the week. Who does that? The stuff in the bag wasn’t even worth the amount I imagine it’ll cost them to ship it. And they wouldn’t have me pay for shipping either.
Oh, small stores in SF. I love thee much.

This store does not stand behind its products. I bought an expensive bag from this store and the zipper broke just a few days after the 30 day mark. I went back and the store managers says that they have no policy to stand behind their products after the return period. Too bad. My recommendation is to buy these products from a store that will guarantee quality or handle repairs.

Horrible customer service. Bought expensive suitcase and did not make one flight without breaking. I come back to the store to return it and they refuse to take it back after the sales person who sold it to me guaranteed I could return it if there was anything wrong. Liars and bad customer service. Do not shop here.

When you work in the airline industry, it’s in your blood to be attracted to all things airplane/​airport related. So when I eyed the sign from across the street, I knew I had to check it out.
They have really fun bag tags here. A lot of them! I think this would be a cool place to shop for a travel savvy friend. The tags are funny/​silly and would be perfect as gifts. I just don’t see myself buying for myself since I can’t use any of the items on my works bags.
The people here are super nice. They pointed me to the sale section and I got a phone holder for a wall charger.
Most of the things were kind of out of my price range for such simple odds and ends you could pick up at chain stores.

Whenever I am in Hayes Valley, I stop by this store! There are so many things to use for travel here that you find both fun things and items you never thought you would need. They travel books, toiletries, bags of all types to carry, help you pack more efficients and luggage. I always find something to spend my money on either for myself or for gifts. And th salespeople are always friendly and so helpful.

The place to go for modern jet setters. It’s much more stylish than your typical travel or luggage store. Flight 001 carries luggage, maps, universal adapters, travel pillows, luggage tags, laptop cases, tote bags, toiletry bags, lingerie bags, headphones, travel games, passport holders, etc. The toiletry bags are quite nice, from the likes of Stephanie Johnson, Hammocks & High Tea, Apple & Bee, etc. They even have pouches for men.
The complimentary gift packaging is so clever and unique. It’s a translucent metallic bag that they seal up with a signature Flight 001 sticker. The sticker has a place to write the name of the issuing agent (gift giver) and the name of passenger (recipient).

I can always find at least one or two fun things here. Came this time to replace the clipper card holder that was eaten by the BART escalator. Lots of options (luggage tags are the perfect size for holding Clipper cards). Also found a cool wallet today on the sale shelf… and it was marked even further down so I was in heaven.

Flight 001 is one of those stores where it’s fun to look at the goodies on display and feel amused for a few minutes. The store has all sorts of knick-​knacks for the international traveler, including laptop cases (all of them were apparently outfitted only for Macbooks), travel guides and paper soap.
If you really feel like you need all the gadgets in here and if you really have the money to spend, then why not?
For me, I didn’t find anything practical here, but I still enjoyed walking around the store to at least amuse myself.

Very fun. This store is great for the regular traveler who wants to add a little color and whimsy to their travels or as a source for unique gifts with character.
Take the time to peruse the shop and explore all the cool little things it has to offer. If you have questions, do ask the staff, they can provide good insight on how to travel more comfortably and/​or in style.
They have a good selection of fun cameras that is worth a look.
