Fifty 24SF Gallery

Nice mini gallery. It is a tad tiny and can only allow so many people at a time, but dug the store next door more, that sells the prints on apparel. Always nice to see local artist succeeding with expressing their art and getting a fan base from it. Apparels are more men (but chicks can sport it too) and minimal baby tee woman’s sections and even a section for kids and pets too. Nice little shop to stop by in Lower haight, then go grab a drink.

I know two stars is quite critical but I have to admit that the one thing that bothers me about this gallery is the space.
In order to truly show artists’ work, space is the biggest consideration. Not only for the artist but for the viewer as well. My first visit was pleasant but that’s because I was in the gallery by myself and the gallery assistant was really sweet and cordial (not typical of the high-​end galleries in Downtown SF). To conceptualize the space, I’ll just break it down like this; the square footage alone is barely a decent sized studio (approx. 600+ sq. ft and that’s a generous estimation). Overall, the artwork reflects the sub-​culture of underground art and illustration. It also epitomizes the idea of «alternative space».
For any serious artist, the space is not conducive to having a hefty amount of your friends and family attend your opening. Then again, any exposure is good exposure but ensure that you scope out the space and decide if it’s the venue for you.
There is so much potential with expansion; however, for now, it’s not on my top list of galleries in the city.

I really want to give more stars than this, but I can’t make myself to because I only saw it through the window. I was walking pass it after going to underground playground. I’m not even sure who’s the painter that they have in there, but from what I’ve seen I’m liking it. The painting are delightful to the eyes. It’s has rhythm, color are vibrant, somewhat animated. I wish I know their hours so I can go in and really look at the details. Oh well, perhaps next time I’m in town.
