This is a terrible company that misrepresents its membership demographics and pricing structure. AVOID THEM!!!

This is not a place for anyone that is sensitive to alcohol. On adverage, 75% of the activities are alcohol related. If you are a non drinker or impressionable to drinking, this is not for you. Most camping trips turn into a frat party on the first night.

Whatever you do do not sign a contract with these people. I showed up to and event at Treasure Island and no one was there. I had already given them $ 300. I could not get my money back. They put me into a collection agency for another 2400 dollars. They just kept saying YOU SIGNED A LEGAL CONTRACT. They did not care that I said they did not deliver on there end of the contract there were no services rendered. I would like to get a hold of the owner of this company and tell him my story.(they would not give me his number or email) The managers and people who work for the owners do not give a crap if you ever meet anyone or if anyone shows up to an event.
DO NOT JOIN!!!

That interview was a JOKE! Worst sales tactic ever. I had to hold back laughing. She had told me about the $ 2k membership cost and I was like «Sorry, that’s a bit steep for me.» About six duplicative Qs followed, instigating I have commitment issues (lol, honey didn’t we just meet an hour ago?). I said that’s a pretty funny analogy to make considering I wouldn’t marry a guy after I JUST met him. Nice logic. If you’re going to scam people, at least try to sound smart. And by the way, where are the metrics on your foolproof screening process? I’m pretty sure the bar is set suuuuper high at only those foolish enough to give you their cash. Thanks but no thanks. Off to my next MeetUp.

I went to the NYE party in SJ… and…well…I’m a guy. this is true… when I arrived I found out where a couple of my gal friends where to be sitting. SO GLAD THAT I DID THAT!!!
ahhhhmmmmm.well.ok.then I get in line for a drink. a few folks in front of me. I see her… gorgeous, beautiful, very sexy dress. Sooooooo… I go sit down at the table with my friends… and then… she decides to SIT RIGHT NEXT TO ME, THIS IS NO JOKE — she is gorgeous, sweet, and well, best dressed the night for sure. We had lot’s of «moments» through out the evening. She was being very friendly with me, which I greatly enjoyed. She happens to be Asian. and I really like Asian women a whole heck of a lot.
At NYE parties, people get drunk, not me, I don’t drink alcohol. Sooo… the evening progresses and then comes a defining moment. some gals kissed me on the cheek. and she.well.she kissed me where it matters most… I will not tell you her name, this is a private group. I will say that she is beautiful, gorgeous, and I sure hope to see her again… soooo… maybe I will meet «the one» after all through this group. Final note… I’ve been a member of this group for
SIX YEARS THIS IS NOT A SCAM!!!

If only I could give many, many negative stars… but alas…
I will keep this brief, as most of the other low-​star reviews do a good job of explaining exactly what this club is and is not.
1) You will inevitably hear a radio ad that will get you interested, especially around the holidays and Valentine’s Day, in this club.
2) You will have to interview before joining and it will take place at their offices in SOMA. They will work very hard (repeated phone calls and emails) to get you there on time. Once you are there, the whole thing will feel predatory, superficial, generally slimey and very, very sales-​tactic-​like.
3) You will be asked to commit to a membership on the spot and to pay on the spot. The minimum you will be able to get away with is 6 months and about $ 1k. You will not be given the option of a «trial period.» In fact, just like some other reviews already mentioned, you will be made to feel like an idiot if you question them on this.
4) If you try to cancel or get your money back, you will be ignored. Customer service for this «company» is horrific. From the top down (I had sent emails to the «President» and some other support staff, all with the same effect), they could care less how you are treated as a customer.
5) Once they have your money, you are just a number to them. In my case, I was a number that spread a lot of negative publicity to a large friend/​colleague/​social network group, wrote a a negative Unilocal review and filed multiple complaints to the Better Business Bureau.
Again, I don’t want to re-​state what others have already said, but I will say this (in ALL CAPS, to prove a point):
1) DON’T WASTE YOUR TIME, PATIENCE AND MONEY!
2) TURN OFF THE RADIO WHEN YOU HEAR THE ADS.
3) GO HANG OUT WITH YOUR FRIENDS AND PLAN FUN THINGS WITH THEM.
Even though my experience was very negative and I cannot get my money back, what I am trying to accomplish by writing this review is to to save you from having to go through the same things.

This was one of the oddest «interviews» I have ever done. I went to the SF office to meet with one of the reps, as I had heard about them on the radio and wanted to see what the group was about. The lady I met with was all over the place, and unable to remember the last thing I had said to her during the entire process, causing her to ask me the same questions again and again. The office reeked of cigarettes and by the way she spoke to me, I am pretty sure she was on very heavy painkillers, as she couldn’t focus on the conversations and her eyes kept rolling into the back of her head while we spoke.
She asked me a million questions about why I was there, but seemed taken aback when I wanted her to walk me through what the group did and what types of events they offered. Perhaps they think that everyone that comes into their office is so eager to sign up that the interview is one sided, but I was there to find out more information just as much as they wanted to «interview» me. The info the woman gave me was so limited, I was wondering if this was really a social meetup club, or a cover for something else.
She asked me about 10 times why I was there, because I was «so pretty I could meet a guy anytime I wanted to». Not sure how that aligns with their sales tactic, but I kept telling her that my goal wasn’t to necessarily meet a guy, but to meet new people and see new spots in the city, since I am relatively new to the area. She still just seemed very focused on why I was single, why I was there when I was pretty enough to do this without them, BUT that once I was married, I was out of the club.
The whole thing was entirely bizarre, from the woman’s demeanor, to the interview questions. But, the most ridiculous part was when I said I wanted to think about joining at the end of the meeting, she acted like I was nuts and called in her colleague to grill me further on why I didn’t want to join on the spot. She was so demeaning once I told her I wasn’t sold on joining, any glimmer of interest went away there on the spot. When I asked about a trial membership or event since I wasn’t sure, she said it would be like «me staying at her apartment in the Marina for 3 days to see if I wanted to live in the Marina… it doesn’t work like that (eye roll and sneer)». Actually, its nothing like that; gyms offer this all of the time, and if they were so confident in their services, this would be something they would offer.
I hope this is a nice way to network for some folks, but is not the right fit for anyone who just wants a chill way to meet people and try new events in the city. But, I guess I should’ve guessed that the minute they said I was required to interview before I could pay them thousands of dollars for something that Meetups do for free.

Beware! Don’t join and this is a scam! I tried to call and cancel my membership. They never got back to me so I had to call my credit card company to file a claim! I’m saving you the time and money by not joining! Once you sign up for a membership you are locked!

**UPDATE ¹¹⁄₁₄: after LOTS of emails and calls and I can finally say the issue was resolved. Liz N. was very helpful and after realizing we were only looking for the stop of the collection and closing the account, NO refund, she cancelled the account. She asked us to provide an invoice from my brothers country of residence, which he did.
I have updated my rating to reflect my experience. The company has poor resolution practices. The manager, Wendy, was rude and the process should have been escalated earlier (as we asked repetitively!). For that, E&A gets 1 start (negative if I could). On the other hand, Liz (account manager) was friendly, professional and respectful. Once she got involved, she took charge and dealt with it quickly. She gets 5 stars. So, in total and summary, E&A gets 3 stars (Co 1, Liz 5 = E&A 3).
This seems a fair rating due to the time spent dealing with this issue and the lack of follow up from Wendy and others. I will inform BBB of the resolution, highlighting Liz’s help. She was the ONLY person who seems to care enough to look into my brothers account. BTW, she called me a few time and emailed us promptly. Thank you.

It’s truly been an adventure! I joined the club 4 years ago with no friends in the San Jose area. All my friends were married with kids and I was looking to get out and meet people and just have fun! The club is expensive, but if you use your membership, go to events, you get what you put into it. I’m outgoing and social, and three months into my membership I was asked to host events. This helped me offset some of my club expenses. Now I am at the end of my contract. I have grown so much through my experiences through the club. I am a much happier, confident person. I have made many new friends. I have had wonderful trips and done things I never would have done on my own.
This is an activity club for singles, but there is a lot of dating that takes place. I have seen multiple friends from the club get married! I’ve dated 6 women in my time with the club, and I’ve been dating my best friend for the last year and a half. We are doing great and my life is filled with love and friendship.
There are many events you should not miss: Trampoline dodgeball, camping, Halloween party, most of all the event tied to the new members icebreaker! If you want to meet the new cute girls or guys you have to get there first before they start to date others in the club. Go for the fresh fish, as new members join all the time and others contracts time out.
Like a gym membership, people sometimes sign up for a lengthy contract and only go to their first three events. It’s sorta silly but that happens a lot. You can’t get six pack abs at the gym in three visits, and you cannot meet all the members of the club in only three events. Maybe the cute guy or gal your looking forward to meeting doesn’t join for a few months. Regardless. Go out and have fun at events. Make having fun your focus, and flirt when you meet somebody your interested in. Who knows what might happen!
Ohhh. I have a TON of fun stories! I have a TON of fun photos! This experience was worth every Penny! Lol.
If your curious and on the fence about joining, seek out a club member and have them add you as s guest to go to an event before joining.

Was boondoggled by high pressure sales tactics by the representative I met with who assured me I could get my money back if I cancelled within 3 business days. I sent them a letter on the first business day that did not arrive until the 5^th business day because of the Christmas and New Year’s holidays. Even though I called and sent a letter, they still tried to charge the balance of my credit card, charge $ 30 monthly dues, and are now threatening to send my «account» to collections. The collections rep Wendy Arthur said she wants to make me a «kind offer» to lower the amount I still owe. OMG, seriously? Go to Tinder or OK Cupid – they’re free!

Recently I’ve been reflecting on life and have got to say, if it wasn’t for E&A I would be in a different spot in my life…
I joined E&A in 2009 and since then have dozens of friends that I met in the club, I met my wife through the club and together we have a beautiful 7 month old baby girl.

I wish, I read all these reviews prior to wasting three hours of my weekend on this fake interview appointment. Luckily, I was smart and resilient enough not to buckle under the pressure. I was shocked of how extremely unprofessional the SF office people have been acting. The moment I walked in, some belligerent, drunk woman (who works there) hugged me and interrogated me about my height. The rest of her comments and questions were within the same line. I was very uncomfortable about filling out paperwork with lots of my personal information before I found out anything about this company, costs, etc. After I repeatedly voiced my concerns, they said I can come back next time when I’m ready to go through their process.
I will not bore everyone with describing an hour-​long interview process. However, what really concerned me that they claim to do a very thorough background check and yet the person who interviewed me quickly glanced at my DL, then stared into my eyes and asked if I have ever been convicted of felonies, filed a bankruptcy, or did any drugs. I truthfully said No to all three and that was it. What if someone was not telling the truth. That is NOT a background check. It’s a joke. What is not a joke is their eagerness to get as much money out of your pocket as possible. There’s quite a bit of pressure. I suggest to those of you who are interested in E & A to read some reviews before investing your time and lots of money.

The best way to explore the bay area! The coordinator Julie is the best and gets us amazing deals and vip experiences! I can’t wait to hear about Tahoe & the upcoming Vegas trip!

Can i give negative stars? (Should’ve read the reviews before decided to visit these guys)
This is exactly how it went:
I reached @ 11:55 fr a 12 noon appointment.
There was a tall blonde lady who saw me looking for their office and asked if i was there fr e&a meeting, i confirmed and she handed a form for me to fill up and vanished.
Came in after a couple mins and asked me fr a beverage i took water. & told me it will take 45mins to an hr. then gone again — so far ok, i would perhaps expect some casual conversation but this felt like a hospital!!! The super busy surgeons were only talking if they felt the need.
Then she She showed up after i started to wonder whats going on at around 12:18 along with a lady called «angela»
Here’s our conversation, verbose: —
A: who are you!!? (with a snorty pose, her wrist resting on her shoulder)
Me– well, who are you?
A– (chewing gum and walking towards me, with her hand forward) i’m angela & where are you from?
Me– i’m blah and am from Bombay originally, live in pacifica
A– omg! My roommate was from bombay and he got me earrings and drapes for the windows, do you have family there? Can they get me some more drapes? And some earrings?
Me — well, my folks are here so i don’t think thats possible!
A– ok, lets go and talk
We go into a different office.
Here she started to stare at me and look at my profile, sobout of curiosity i asked her who exactly are you? Coz so far I have no details of how the program works!& i’ve been here 30 minutes already!

Angela & her colleagues behavior is solely responsible for me walking out with a bad impression of the entire company.
My review is to let people know what to expect from these people so that you don’t waste your time as i did.
There is a lot that can be said about a company and how it will treat you given what i saw, if these ladies had so much attitude and off handish behavior, i can only imagine how they would treat you once they have taken your money.

Everyday I go to work and keep hearing this ads on the radio and look it up online when I get home, And as I look on the calendar it’s interest me, Lot of things and events I never done before, specially if you are born and raised in another country, and you want to know more about the people.
I decided to join Events and Adventures for 6 months to try. And it’s been fun to me, I met new cool and fun people, people you become friends with and still want to keep in touch.
Before my membership expires, they offer me a good deal to keep me in the group, that’s hard to resist, and also to think about the friends I make in the group, hard for me to let it go, so I signed up again for another 2 yrs. Even though I only go on few events every month, for me still worth it, because I always see my friends, and new members that are also fun to know and be with.
Now, they offer a good deal for members that has an expiring contract, and become a lifetime member. It’s all worth it I can say.
For me it’s not a dating site for singles, although you might meet your life time partner in this group, It’s more on the Adventures and meeting professional, fun, and caring people.
I love the Events, I love the people, it change my life to I am not a shy person anymore…

The sales process definitely included some pressure and was a bit slimey. The membership may be awesome and they definitely seem to put on some great events, but I can’t speak from experience.

My story of constraint is exactly the same, word to word.
Basically being new in the area and trying to socialize, I thought that SF is full of open and cool people. The naïve, open and trustful me :))
The guys definitely know psychology and apply some aggressive tactics to make you sing the $ 2k contract that says basically «once you give us your money, you can’t get them back». My contract said that in 24 hours I have to send them a letter to the Washington HQ if I want to cancel and get the money back, which is virtually impossible without trying the «product».
People if you have 2k to spare keep them in your pocket, these guys and their business needs to fade away. There are better options for socializing.
$ 2k upfront out the window. And while they push a stack of papers in your face to sign, you have no time to read all that and get the catch. They keep your mind busy with other things. To a simple question, ok so what do I have to pay attention to, the answer is «this is a standard contract, nothing to worry about.»
I would go to some places and complain, but I don’t know where to and the their process is so thought out that you have nothing left to hold on to. Basically is the same principle as once the banks and their loans worked «make the customer stay still while we fuck him hard».

The «sale pitch» from this place is worst than your local gym. «Come join us, people join and lose weight in 7 days, its amazing» similarly «Come join us, there are many attractive fidi lawyers, ibankers, CFO’s, CEO’s, interested in meeting a girl just like you, in fact you happen to fit the description of what this pre-​IPO dude asked me for yesterday…»
SCAM.
Even the stock photos they posted on Unilocal which look like «fun events with mediocre or normal people» look like print ads for Mervyns. Which is out of business…
This is basically
(which is FREE) but they charge you money and they don’t tell you that their events are super lame. poorly coordinated, and a bunch of non english speaking people show up and everyone has a nice awkward time together. If you ask them if you can come «try out» one event first — they say NO, we want your annual «unreimbursable member fee» first.
Ah, Of course. SCAM!

I’ve written my story below, but here’s the bottom-​line: DO NOT SIGN-​UP WITH EVENTS AND ADVENTURES unless you can afford to pay the costs right up front. If you are willing to toss in a couple grand to this company and can afford the monthly dues as well as the costs for the events themselves on top of the dues, go for it. I’m sure you’ll enjoy yourself and meet lots of nice people. If you live on any kind of a budget, I would steer clear and visit other social groups offering truly free events.
My other piece of advice before launching into my story, don’t trust their sales people or their backroom deals.
Here’s my story…
I joined E&A after hearing commercials on the radio about how great it was and all the different activities. I work from home, so getting out and being social can be a challenge. Beyond making friends, I was hoping to meet a special someone. My big concern though: I live over an hour from the nearest club location. I decided it was still worth checking out and went to their office to learn more.
The sales person took me to a private office where he promised I could cancel at any time if I was unhappy or found the events too difficult to attend. He said the company didn’t want people feeling forced to attend and they certainly didn’t want to take money from people who weren’t enjoying themselves. He said with the costs and interest in E&A, they were comfortable cancelling without obligation. Taking him at his word, I agreed to sign-​up.
I found out after the fact, cancelling could only be accomplished by writing to the corporate headquarters within 3 business days of signing up. It was barely enough time for me to look at their calendar of events and see most were much further away than I originally thought. I wasn’t able to attend my first event until over two-​weeks after signing up.
Still, I trusted their salesperson and his promise I could cancel. After attending about 5 events over 4 months, I found attending to be too difficult and the events all had added costs. I also had some major life upheaval and it became nearly impossible to continue attending events, so I tried to cancel. I was told it was not an option, despite my circumstances, and all I could do was suspend my membership for up to 3 months, which would simply extend it that much longer. I took the offer in an effort to save some money for added bills, but they lied again and only approved me for 2 months.
I’m considering small claims court, though I believe the law is on their side since I only had a verbal promise from their sales person in a back office. I haven’t attended any events in nearly a year, but I’m still paying for it every month.
On a side note, I was also promised the monthly dues and overall membership costs went towards events, so most events were free. It was only on specific occasions, like overnight trips or when venues were selling food or drinks, where there could be added costs. He even showed me a print-​out of their calendar from a previous month where a lot of the events said ‘free’. Well, the dues probably do somehow discount some events, but I would say less than half the events were free. In some cases, I found it would be cheaper if I bought my ticket direct from the venue and meet the E&A group there, though because I hadn’t signed up through E&A and paid their higher fee, I was not on the «guest list.» Since some events were free, I guess it went to some good use for someone.
Another note, some events take place at venues hosting large events, so Events and Adventures just gets a group of tickets to the overall event. In those cases, there is little coordination special to Events and Adventures beyond meeting their rep at the door for your ticket. If you go by yourself, you’ll pretty much stay by yourself unless you start talking to strangers in the hope you find some who are part of your group. That was the last straw for me. I had paid for an event and, luckily, was able to meet up with one other person who was part of the E&A group, though I was told there were about 30 others amongst the hundreds attending the larger event.
While I think they deserve ‘no stars’ for the lack of honesty and caring for their members, I did still meet nice people; no lasting friendships, but I will accept giving them the one star for accomplishing this small feat. Like I said in the beginning though, the best advice I can give you, pay the whole cost right up front or don’t pay at all.

After being disappointed with other free dating sites online, I thought I would give Events and Adventures a try hearing such great things on the radio. I called, and was a little disappointed to hear that I had to come into their office even before hearing much about the place. They said that this was their process and it was best to hear about their organization in person. I can see why now. It was a way to lure people in with misleading promises.
The guy I spoke to told me in some many words that my membership would cover entry into events and that I would be saving in the long run. He told me of all the free game tickets, movie tickets, and events I was going to be able to go to. I was skeptical at first, and really leery after hearing that it was $ 2000! I was ready to walk out the door and bite the bullet for the time and gas I had spent in getting there, but this guy really convinced me that I was going to save money and meet some cool people.
I bought it, and went home to check out the website’s calendar and upcoming events the next day. Everything required you pay the regular cost. All the movies, events, etc. all required a payment any regular person would have to pay, in addition to the $ 2k I put down. My immediate thoughts were, «What did I pay $ 2k for?! I could go to all of these events on my own! All they’re doing is wrangling suckers together who are willing to meet singles for $ 2k a year!»
I had been lied to– or at least mislead. I felt cheated and immediately wanted out. Thankfully I had remembered the guy mumble something about having three days to get a refund after I asked about something on the contract. I immediately went into action the last possible day to get a refund and contacted the corporate office to find out what I needed to do to get a refund. I found that I needed to send a certified letter notifying them I wanted a refund with my receipt. It was 4:30, but I sure as heck made sure I got myself an envelope, some paper, and got in line at the post office. I made sure to send it to the local SF office and their corporate location, just to make sure I was getting my hard earned money back. What a scam!
