We have been in the Thai Massage our entire careers, working first in Thailand, then the Middle East Now, after nearly 20 years in her practice, opening our own spa in Fisherman’s Wharf, San Francisco.

Wearing loose fitting pajamas, the techniques used are far and away superior to Western style massage, Blending stretching and somewhat stronger than a Swedish massage. Perfect to work out those pesky knots in your back.

Thai massage using Steamed Herbal Ball, for the ultimate relaxing massage, with amazingly healthful results. Give it a try and sense the difference.

History

Established in 2014.

It is told, that Thai massage was created more than 2500 years ago, by the personal doctor of Buddha, master Jivaka. Therefore, meditation has a great influence on this massage technique, that addresses energy through the stimulation of the Sen lines or paths. The body through muscle stretches, and the spirit by means of yoga.

The Energy Theory is based on the balance among the four elements: Earth, Water, Wind and Fire, on the free flow of energy between specific point of the body. Out of the lines that run through our body, we going to focus on the 10 principal channels, Sen Sib, that are represented in the following graph. Each of these energy lines, that have their distinct name and route, is related to the functioning of one or various organs. Its free flow and balance conditions our physical and mental health. The veracity of this theory cannot be proved, nevertheless the positive response to stimulation through the different massage technique is obvious!

Coming here was the jumpstart to a wonderful 30th birthday celebration for my husband. We came in for a couple’s massage (Swedish for us both). I’m happy to say that I’m still nice and loosened up from the massage I got 3 days ago! Like most people who have a computer job, my shoulders were super tight, but my therapist Nicky relieved all that tension for me. I seriously didn’t want to leave the massage bed. I promise Nicky has magical fingers, and based on my husband’s snoring, his therapist Jasmine was awesome as well! After our massages, we opted for the infrared sauna. Unlike the traditional sauna, we weren’t in there sweating but simply relaxing our muscles with just enough heat that didn’t get super uncomfortable for us (however, if that’s what you like, the sauna has that setting too). Nicky brought us beverages of our choice, and we were able to take our time and thoroughly enjoy our alone time together. The staff was super sweet, considerate, and professional. And the quality of their massages is superb! I can’t wait to go back! And with their location right by SF’s Fisherman’s Wharf, it’s a great place to go before or after a lunch or dinner date (which we did and LOVED). Thank you Essence Thai Spa for your excellent hospitality and service!

I was travelling on business and took a chance. I was pleasantly surprised.
Great massage, it was a real deep tissue/​sports massage (which is what I asked for). The therapist had real skills, not just a typical spa masseuse.

Kasumi really can do the deep tissue masage for a small Japanese lady. I can feel it in my bones… that’s how good her hands are.
She got the knots out of my shoulders. She kept at it til it was gone. I would definitely go back and get Kasumi again. It help for to start my weekend knot free.

I had a Thai massage here last week, and it was awesome. Felt amazingly relaxed when I left. Staff was super friendly. I recommend doing the short 15 minute sauna after the massage. They even have a shower with soap to rinse off afterwords.

My hubby and I came here within a month of posting this review. The ladies who work here are so very kind. We even got placed in an room where my hubby and I could both be placed together. How thoughtful! I really appreciated it. We got a groupon and I never had received a Thai Massage before. Well, there’s no way I’m going back to a regular massage. We were given very clean and comfy garments to use for our massages. I absolutely loved it!!! Usually, my husband and I complain how masseuses never do a strong enough massage. Well, these ladies definitely can break bones. They are not shy to get in all the necessary areas and loosen things up. Lol! I will definitely ask for the «light» option next time. I know I will not be disappointed. The masseuse I had found all the areas I needed work on. When I looked like I couldn’t take it, she softened her strength. She was so petite but was very strong. I could’ve sworn her toes were fingers. I keep bugging my hubby for us to make another appointment. Thank you! You are our go to place! Look forward to visiting you again.

Came here using a groupon — definitely a good find. Although I have to say I was in pain for about 50% of my massage, it was a somewhat pleasurable pain in that I felt very relaxed afterwards. The thai lady definitely stepped all over me (they have ropes hanging from the ceiling to keep their balance!) and bent me in several different directions. I might ask her to go softer the next time I come.

Did not know what to expect from a Thai Massage, wow what a treat! Prathana, my masseuse, was an excellent therapist! She released an enormous amount of tension I had in my shoulders and neck. My wife and I are definitely looking forward to coming back very soon. I think we found our best massage place in the city.

Niki has a five star massage parlor and the service is great, I’ve had massages in several countries and several places, and I must say my experience at Essence Thai Massage was far more than I expected, nice atmosphere, clean facility. i will return when my schedule allows.

I like the massage of the owner Nicky, she is very charming and funny and gives a qualified strong Thai style massage.
The second time I visited I started with Nicky but she asked me to try another therapist and I agreed– this was a mistake on my part. The other woman tried her best but was not anywhere the standard that was set by Nicky. I showed her several times a few easy techniques to use but she kept returning to something that wasn’t helping my sore muscles at all.
Nicky did say I could call her back if the other lady wasn’t working out, so that’s on me for tolerating it. I felt too awkward making a scene and changing therapists again, the balance between stress of staying and stress of raising the issue.
This is a beautiful little shop, it instantly makes me feel I’m back in Thailand with the decorations and other ambiance. I do hope Nicky works to make sure the other therapists have skills closer to what she offers.

Loved my first massage I got here by Jasmine. I was gifted a Groupon certificate for the 60min Thai massage but like a dummie I forgot the actual coupon. Fortunately Jasmine was able to simple help me locate the certificate # and I was on my way to bliss!
Knowing it was my first time she was gentle at first then gradually increased the pressure. My favorite part was the stretch positions towards the end that really help settle all the muscle work previous to it.
Definitely coming back again!

This was a GREAT, experience!!! I highly recommend Essence Thai Spa Massage to anyone seeking relief from muscular pains as well as needing stretches done. I tend to carry my tensions in my neck and shoulder areas and the Thai experience was much helpful to alleviate those pains. Pat, the massage therapist, was very trained, knowledgeable, and professional. It was my first experience to have a Thai Massage and I was told the pressure can be slightly more than Japanese Shiatsu which I have also experienced before. I feel the cultural experience and the relaxation really helped alleviate my muscular pains. It felt like a longer massage and it was paced on time. She also was very good to provide reflexology on trigger muscular spots as well work from head to toe. I was much happy, and will definitely recommend this place to my friends and peers.
