This place is great! The pricing is totally reasonable and they really take the time to understand what you want, I definitely appreciate coming here. All the staff are great, and I’ve never walked out less than completely happy. Thank you!

Got a jersey for my birthday but since I’m a short person even the smallest size didn’t fit. So I looked around to see if found someone that could do it. I had no luck until I went to one of my physical therapy sessions and saw this store and decided to go in. Turns out they were able to do it and I personally think at a low cost so I went ahead got my jersey altered and it fits perfect! Now I’m ready for SF GIANTS opening day!

I used to come here all the time. I may have already written a 5 star review at one point. Today, I’ve decided never to return here. This is the 3^rd time that I’ve come by in the morning (they say they open at 9am) and nobody is here. The owner says he is short staffed but it seems like this happens quite a bit. If coming in at 9am is too difficult, then change your hours to 10am. They have become too comfortable thinking that since they are established that loyal customers will just wait and wait and wait (while the rest of us are trying to get to work in time!!!)
You are NOT entitled to my business. If you say 9am, you should open at 9am or lose business.
So now, you will lose business.

I scored a size XL football jersey off ebay and didn’t realize it would fit more like a 4XL. Escobar took in the body and shoulders and shortened it so that it fits perfectly. And the way they stitched it up is superb – more heavy duty than the way it was originally and you can’t even tell it was altered from looking at the outside of the jersey.
Yeah…they took a few days longer than estimated, but I was in no rush and they were cool so I’m throwing down max stars for ‘em.

Can’t say enough about this place!!! Had two pairs of pants which I needed hemmed and back to me by the next day. I checked with a bunch of places that either told me they couldn’t do it or wanted to charge an absurd amount of money for a hem. Luckily I found this place! Not only did they get it back to me on time, they only charged $ 15 per pant (a lot less than what others were offering).
NOTE: 1 Post Street Plaza is actually located on the corner of Market & Post (where Post & Montgomery intersect) right near the bart station. Their location on Unilocal’s map is incorrect.

My boyfriend and i had a wedding to go so i course we got a dress for myself and a suit for him. He looked mighty dapper in the suit, however it needed some alterations for finishing touches. So i googled custom tailors in San Francisco. Being an aspiring designer, I’m very meticulous when it comes to making any changes to any garment. I came across Escobar bros custom tailors through Unilocal and saw they had enough stars to convince me to give them a try.
But it wasn’t Unilocal that proved their credibility, but Marcela, the sweet woman that helped us. She was not only a skilled seamstress, but gave excellent customer service. She understands the importance of paying close attention to detail and satisfying customers’ needs and wants.
If i ever start a business and open a small boutique, i would definitely love to work with Marcela!

I just popped in to have them move a button on my collar. The woman behind the counter took care of it in less than 5 minutes and the boss (not sure which bro) didn’t want to charge me. Love that kind of old-​school service!
I will come back here with a real alteration and update my review if there are any significant changes.

My first experience was great (four years ago)… took in a pair of jeans that needed to be hemmed, and they were able to salvage the original hem and attach it so that it looked normal. No problem there.
It all went downhill when I took my first suit there. One of the Escobars himself measured and chalked me and it was supposed to be a quick tailoring job.
My jacket and pants were ready a few days later, as promised… but the suit was badly sewn. Both sleeves were detached and reattached, but the stitching on the right did not match the sleeve on the left. It looked like a child’s first sewing project in domestic engineering class.
As far as the pants were concerned: even though the pants’ length was acceptable, the inseam was sewn too high, making my crotch bulge and making walking uncomfortable because the fabric was too tight around that area. With that said… it was the first and last suit I’ve taken there, and I don’t think I’ll be using them anymore.

I’ve been taking my pants here for hemming work for years, and they’ve never done a bad job. Marcella is concientious, detail-​oriented, and always knows what’s «right» when it comes to how things should look. Having said that, she is always accomodating when you say you want something different, e.g., shorter, longer, slimmer, etc. Lourdes, who sits patiently at the sewing machine, is also great and has even helped me during the times when Marcella is on the phone or helping someone else. I recently went to the Embarcadero 2 location, and they also provided great customer service, so I’ll be coming here for many more years to come!

Don’t bother. There are far better, cheaper places right in the area.
The good — they did my alterations on time, and the quality was good (no loose thread, no asymmetry, etc.)
The bad — the clothes appeared to have been altered to fit someone else. Pants were hemmed about 2 inches too long — granted, I can’t do it myself, but I know it’s not rocket science either.
I didn’t have time to ask them to redo it, so I just made do. Now I’m off to Robert’s to get the hemming redone for someone other than Wilt Chamberlain.

I’ve been going to the Escobar @ Montgomery for 6 years now for all of my hemming work. From jeans to dress pants they have made them all look like they were the original hem or better! Prices are reasonable, worth it because I trust them with all my hemming needs.
Turnaround time is great, and they have often done rush jobs for me as well.

Marcella is the best tailor in the city. I’ve been going to her for the last 6 years, she listens, suggests, and her work is always perfect. A little on the pricey side but worth it!

I have been looking for Enrique Escobar for almost a decade. I recently learned that suit salesmen have lied to me. I am a 37S. Suits this size don’t exist off the rack.
If you have expensive clothing, you know how scary it can be to turn over a $ 2,500 suit to a tailor for «surgery.» I took a deep breath and gave him a suit that took me two years to buy. He completely rebuilt it. Literally took it apart and customized it to my body.
I finally met my first master tailor. I have given him almost every serious piece I own since then.

I needed to repair a few buttons on my coat. I decided to take it into Escobar’s 1) I am domestically challenged 2) The fabric on the coat is a bit thick.
They were seriously the nicest people I have ever met. fixed the buttons within 15 mins. and offered not to charge me.
The great customer service has earned my business. I am taking my alterations here from now on.

She is wonderful and very professional. She doesn’t try to rip you off and the prices are very reasonable and her work is wonderful!
I was running late and I called and she waited for me. I know she didn’t have to do that for me! That is a BIG plus in my book!
I went to Escobar based on a referal from a friend and she is as wonderful as my friend said!
I will bring more of my clothes here and tell everyone I know in the FD to bring there clothes here!

Ah, on my way to the opera and my booty falls down the very last step before I’m on the street, and I eat it. My knee is a mess, but my dress. oh my dress :(
torn straight up the slit, but not quite on the seam. This is going to need some surgery. By the recommendation of a friend, I take it to this little place, where I was to meet a robust Russian lady who would apparently work wonders on my baby.
1 week later, she took in the sides by literally 2 millimeters to make up for the surgery she did on the slit, and she reinforced the hem. I swear to god you cannot TELL this dress was in an accident, I was slightly disturbed by how good of a job she did, borderline an art.
And the best part? $ 15

I had a suit made for my wedding at Escobar, and it was, by far, the best shopping experience I have ever had. I picked the fabric, the lining, the buttons — everything. When I went to get measured, Enrique and I were the only ones in the shop. To properly measure me… well, there’s nowhere that is completely off limits. There was NEVER any sexual energy from him. He was completely professional.
Through the entire process, Marcela, the woman who works at the counter, and Enrique, the tailor, were both very friendly and professional — caring about my wedding, and about how I felt in the suit.
The other reason I love them is that I am a woman getting made what one would typically call a «man’s suit.» (I figure if I pay for it, it’s a woman’s suit, but that’s a different point.)
Never did they question my choice to have this suit made, and they didn’t even say things like «It’s ok with me.» They just listened and gave me what I wanted.
Ultimately, the suit is fantastic. I look great in it. I feel Powerful in it. I wish I could afford to have all my clothes custom-​made. Oh! And, I can gain and lose weight and the suit can be adjusted! I can’t tell you how many $ 400 Banana Republic suits I can no longer wear because I either gained or lost weight. Come to think of it, maybe I SHOULD have all my clothes custom-​made. Hmmm.

These guys are just swell!
I was refereed to the originally through a co-​worker from which I noticed perfectly fitted clothing. He told me where it was, and upon my first arrival, slightly offset because of its demure, sunken plaza location.
But once I entered, I warmly greeted and noticed the wealth of clothing lined up to be whipped into shape. Leather jackets, suits, long coats, and jeans of course.
My first alteration was a pair of jean that I just needed hemmed — and that was just me dipping my toes into the pond… After fantastic results, i felt more comfortable doing more complicated operations (i.e., taking the legs and buttox in, and event adding unique stitching elements).
The two most complicated alterations I’ve had done (although not THAT complicated, but I’m comparison to what I had done previously) included my beautiful Victor & Rolf dress shirt which arms were just a tad too long, and my Hurley board shorts which I have now, upon my wishes, created into short shorts for my upcoming trip to Costa Rica (señor Escobar and I chatted for about 15 minutes about what to do and how much fun I was going to have) and then Palm Springs for the White Party in a couple weeks. HOTT!
The dress shirt had a particular stitching pattern at the cuff and they replicated it perfectly when they shortened the sleeve, and they even saved the «Hurley» label at the bottom of my board shorts and replaced just about the new hem line.
They give great attention to detail and make you feel comfortable with what YOU want to do.
The only reason I haven’t given them a full star rating is because the alterations can be somewhat pricey and they don’t have the fasted turn around time — they’re totally busy. Ive become a loyal customer so they’ve been nice and make exceptions for me *tosses hair over shoulder*

Wow, I’m surprised about the bad reviews here for Escobar. I have been going there for a few years and spent about $ 2K alone last year on tailored items — yes I went a little shopping crazy last year. Anyway, I have always had a great experience with their work and when ever I want something re-​done (you know have the waist taken in or let out or have the length changed for a different pair of shoes) they have always done the re-​work at no charge. I’ve had them alter shirts, coats, pants, sport jackets, denim, leather etc.. .
I usually deal with Marsela and she is so friendly and professional. I’ve tried other tailors in the city and honestly this is the place that I am not afraid to recommend to others. So, give it a try and I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.
Oh, by the way.. .they aren’t cheap, but you can’t skimp when it comes to a good tailor.
