An attorney myself, I engaged Theo Emison to represent my wife and me in a medical malpractice case. These are not easy matters, esp. because the insurance industry lobby has pushed laws which cap pain and suffering recoveries, limited attorney’s fees even in very complex cases, and which impose a short one year statute of limitation on any lawsuit at all.
Fewer and fewer competent attorneys take these cases. Theo is one of them. First off, he insisted on getting an outside medical opinion before even committing himself. Second, he’s a gentleman in an area of the law with its share of junkyard dogs. Yet he pulls no punches with either his client or the opposition: it’s critically important not to raise false hopes on either side. Finally he was entirely honest as regarded the inherent conflict between the contingent fee lawyer (whose investment in a case skyrockets as the trial date approaches) and his client (who at a certain point has less to lose in pushing an iffy case forward).
