Embarcadero 4 Dental

All I can say is wow! I am in San Francisco from Toronto, Canada on business and ended up with a bit of a dental emergency. My first morning in San Francisco, I ended up losing ¹⁄₃^rd of one of my front teeth. Dr. Gogol-​Mach and her team were nothing short of spectacular! They were able to fit me in, freeze me up and fix my tooth within a matter of hours. Walking into a dentist office that you have never visited before in this type of situation can be somewhat worrisome, but my tooth honestly looks better now than it did before. I cannot say enough about how amazingly I was treated throughout this experience as well as what an incredible job they did in fixing my tooth. I would highly recommend this team for your dental needs! Thanks for everything!

The ladies here are amazing! The friendly staff makes me feel like I’m visiting my family and friends more than just a seeing my dentist. Everyone is very professional and efficient on what they do. My hygienist, Elisa, is always able to answer all my questions and concerns. I care deeply about the care of my teeth and take pride on it especially since I didn’t have to wear braces growing up. I probably had my teeth filled twice for cavity and my front tooth filled from chipping it by Dr. Johnson and all those experiences were fast and painless.

I’ve been seeing Dr. Gogol-​Mach and her team for more than 20 years and would never think of going anywhere else. I’ve gotten all of my teeth cleaning, treatments repairs, and Invisalign there and have always been singing their praises.
Dr. Gogol-​Mach is incredibly efficient when she works and extremely responsive. This means that when you’re in the chair having your teeth worked on you’ll be there the shortest amount of time possible and be made the most comfortable you can be. Her work is expert and confidence building. She knows what she’s doing and all nervousness I’ve ever had about going to the dentist has evaporated over my time under her care.
Someone told me once, «Take care of your teeth and they’ll take care of you.» I know my teeth are my responsibility and I feel lucky that Dr. Gogol-​Mach is my expert partner in my health. I get a heads up about what I can do to improve my dental situation, know what’s coming up in all of my appointments, and never get blindsided by treatments or charges. She’ll take pictures of things she’s keeping an eye on and explain her thoughts about why they concern her so I feel like I’ve got a team looking out for me.
Her philosophy is in line with mine in that I would seek solid, long-​term solutions to issues — which might be more expensive — rather than being satisfied with cosmetic or shorter-​term fixes. Dr. Gogol-​Mach is part of the investment I make in that care.
Even my regular cleaning appointments are on-​time efficient, thorough, professional, and informational. Dr. Gogol-Mach’s staff does tell me about things that can help my thin-​enameled teeth and I’ve invested in some of them and haven’t been disappointed yet. Of the suggestions I didn’t pursue were the botox treatment for jaw clenching but no one was aggressive about the recommendation and in fact, we ended up having a nice conversation about stress relief, workstation ergonomics, and… mindfulness.
The staff also communicates well as a team so I know that what one examination finds will not be lost before the next appointment. Follow up and record-​keeping are solid, as is Dr. Gogol-Mach’s clear attention to her homework on her patients. She even participated in making my case to a vendor that ended up saving me a lot of money. I seem to remember a system they once tried to handle some insurance bookkeeping which ended up not being a good thing for their patients and after they changed that back I’ve noticed nothing but smooth sailing with billing and insurance stuff. Whether they’re an all woman office is irrelevant. They’re a good team and Dr. Gogol-​Mach is a fantastic dentist.
I never hesitate to recommend Dr. Gogol-​Mach to anyone who needs a dentist.

Dorothy Gogol-​Mach, DDS has been my trusted dentist since 1996. She and her fantastic team are like family to me, but more importantly they do great work in a proactive manner. As a teeth grinder, I’ve created many opportunities for Dr. Gogol-​Mach to restore my teeth and I’ve been happy with the work ever since she installed the first crown in 1997 (It’s still going strong!). All of the people I’ve enjoyed working with at Embarcadero 4 Dental — Elisa, Catherine, Susana, Jennifer, Dr. Jethani and Linda — have all been kind, professional and skilled at what they do. This is a team that works well together and that makes all the difference when getting in, getting the work done and getting out with a smile on your face.

The women of this office are incredible! This review is a long time coming and I am not able to put into words how kind, amazing, professional and incredible they each are-​I have had two implants done, many chips/​cavities repairs and they have made my smile beautiful again. I am afraid of dental work and they have eased that fear and helped me in everyday possible. If you are like me and really need dental work and an office that not only treats you fabulously but makes your smile shine, this is the place for you! Embarcadero 4 Dental is the greatest and the best! Their philosphy is preventative proactive care vs. reactive. I have been going there for several years and the staff is always professional, caring and friendly. They are always on time with scheduled appointments. Dr. Gogol-​Mach thoroughly explains the step-​by-​step process so the procedure is understood. I had to have several crowns replaced due to metal allergies causing gum sensitivity. The old crowns were put in in the 1990’s by another dentist. Due to Embarcadero 4 Dental’s expertise and 21^st Century technology, they made temporary crowns which looked so good, no one could tell they were not permanent. I was so impressed, happy because I feared others might see they were not real. They take care to ensure you are comfortable during a lengthy procedure. They have plenty of movie choices or TV so you don’t have to stare at the ceiling. I highly recommend Embarcadero 4 Dental to everyone.

This is definitely the best dentist’s office I’ve ever been too. Dr. Gogol-​Mach and her amazing team of women put together an excellent treatment plan for my teeth. They always make sure that I am in no pain and resting comfortably during procedures. Also, they are very flexible which is great for people working in the financial district.
I finally feel like my mouth is on the way to being happy and health thanks to this office! I actually enjoy going to the dentist now! :)

I was so apprehensive about my dental work on Friday — Dorothy Gogol-​Mach was amazing! After living for years with pain, she gave me the most comprehensive exam I’ve ever received, and I have a diagnosis I can absolutely trust. Dr. Gogol-​Mach views dentistry from a holistic perspective, which I appreciate so much. The team over at Embarcadero 4 Dental were amazing. I hadn’t had a cleaning in a while, and they took very good care of me. Super high tech and in a great location. Is it weird to say I’m looking forward to going back for the rest of my work? Definitely worth the trip from Reno to San Fran. I’m longer apprehensive, that’s for sure! See you in a few months for the next phase of the plan! I am looking forward to being pain free.

I moved out of the Bay Area and when I had my teeth cleaned last week at my new dentist’s office the hygienist commented on how beautiful my dental work was. She was shocked when I told her that Dr Gogol-​Mach had done all the work 17 years ago! When I started coming to Dr. Gogol-​Mach I hadn’t been to the dentist in years and I needed a lot of fillings. I am so happy that the investment I made in high quality care is still paying off all these years later.

Very good experience, and I am a totally satisfied customer (still in process) with Dr. Dorothy Gogol-​Mach. I did not read Unilocal before i reached out but i did go in and ask for a thorough exam of my current state and also things i may like to do in future. All of the X-​rays, cleaning, et al were complete and i went back a week later to review work i needed now, recommended work for future, and even more if i chose to do additional teeth straighten, whitening etc. Yes, i could spend thousands at any dental company, the important thing is to understand your choices and not simply what you need TODAY. That is the difference to all of you that read Unilocal… I get to be accountable for what i ask for, what i need, and what I want. There are too many dentists out there that give you the great price today with no intentions of seeing you in a year or more than that, 10 years when your teeth grow old like the rest of our body. Take the time to take care of yourself and ask the needed questions. I did, and it was in more than one session, as i wanted to think about my options, and this staff was MORE than willing to accommodate me and i am in process of some pretty exciting things for my mouth and my overall body health!

Rather than just have me open my mouth and do a bunch of things to it, they actually took the time to explain what they were doing and why they were doing it.
Not only that, but every single person in this office is SUPER nice! Not in an annoying my boss makes me say hi to you, but a genuine niceness.

In short, I came back with dirty teeth and sore gum after 2.5 hr of torture. First time in life!
I went to get the cleaning and x-ray.the bill was over $ 350. The process was over 2 hrs but the real cleaning was like 15 mins at most. I used waterpik after I got home and there were still pieces coming out. Black lines and dirt still
on my teeth. My gum was inflamed for the rest of that day.
The dental hygientist was self-​absorbed into selling me the deep cleaning service. She made me watch videos and treated it as part of the cleaning job. I still had tartar between my teeth when she said she was done. She didn’t even bother to rinse my mouth after all the poking.
To the owner,
I do not mind all the selling and pushing since you need to make money. I am willing to pay extra for the location. It is just not acceptable that someone on your team could not get the basic job done.

Very bad experience. Stay away from this dental office.
Got an intro coupon from building tenants’ booklet. Stepped in and gave it a try one day during lunch hours because it’s so close to my work. Then my nightmare began…
Like most reviews have mentioned below, they put together a ‘treatment plan’ that totaled $ 5000+. I didn’t know better at that time and they appeared to be ‘nice’ people. So I decided to try the first few treatment items they recommended. The receptionists at front desk were completely irresponsible — they called my insurance on my behalf (which turned out to be the biggest mistake i made by trusting them), relayed to me orally and in email that «they were able to verify your dental benefits with XYZ». However —
BE AWARE: they would NEVER tell you if and that they are out-​of-​network dental provider — instead, put you on their chair first and Bang, 6 months later after your treatment they called and said oops, sorry honey, your insurance only paid 10%.
Unfortunately it was my case. Result? — Insurance payment shortfall (versus their original quote to me) was so significant that I ended up paying 85% of the total $ 2000 bill.
Treatment itself: okay. But I agreed with one of the reviewers below that Dr. Gogol Mark is heavy handed.
Never, ever, go to this one again.
P. S. guess what’s my experience with my new (current) dentist? They completely wrote off the unnecessary work. Focus on what’s really needed for patients.

Run away.
They quoted me MANY THOUSANDS of dollars worth of dental work, including partial crowns, which basically involve removing part of your tooth! When I got second and third opinions from highly rated and experienced dentists, they both separately agreed that the quote was outrageous and totally unnecessary.
Just left the more experienced dentist’s office with no more than $ 400 of stain cleaning and cavity filling. It wasn’t a big deal at all.
On top of that, Embarcadero 4 had the nerve to suggest that I needed Botox to address a clenching issue. Again, second and third opinions totally disagreed. Botox?!
I am so grateful that I did not let them touch my teeth. It’s obvious that they were just trying to run up a totally unnecessary bill.

I came first to Embarcadero 4 Dental at the recommendation of a colleague. After a few appointments and new fillings, I came to realize that much of this work was not fundamentally necessary. For example, I had a couple of fillings that they claimed would, over time, shrink and therefore not fit into their cavity any longer. Like an idiot, I let them take out perfectly good fillings and replace them, although said fillings were perfect fine at the time. This line of salesmanship progressed to the moment when the gum graft woman gave me a consultation that sounded like something out of a used car sales tactic workshop. I understand the value of preventive work, and I know my teeth aren’t perfect, but I firmly feel that this establishment goes beyond the necessary into the optional but profitable, which for me is unethical.
I also resent this business’s appropriation of a seemingly woman-​centered schema, when their model exploits patients’ lack of dentistry knowledge (and fear). And I’m amused at the idea of «a woman’s touch,» when Dr. Gogol-​Mach is the most heavy-​handed dentist I’ve ever encountered.

I have been going to this practice for many years now!
#1 the front desk staff is great and the office sends text messages for reminders of appointments which I love!
#2 All the staff is wonderful. The assistants are nice and funny and the Dr.‘s are all really nice. Dr. Johnson is super warm and friendly, listens to your needs, and is attentive towards any fears or questions related to treatment that one might have.
#3 The atmosphere of the office is very well done with super comfortable exam chairs, TV’s with a huge movie list for you to watch during treatment, and even a massage chair in the waiting room!

I hadn’t been to the dentist in over two years. Being currently pregnant, my teeth and gums are somewhat sensitive. I was ready for the worst as far as my first cleaning being painful. I had the cleaning done this morning and the hygenist did a wonderful job and didn’t hurt me at all! The office manager and receiptionist were also very helpful during my first visit/​exams and they worked with me on rescheduling when I needed to last minute. I have a lot of work to do still so we’ll see, but at this point I am very happy with this dental office.

My experience is with Dr Joan Johnson. For nearly six years I’ve been seeing Dr Johnson for routine care. I also did the Invisilign treatment through her office. I have been extremely satisified with her work and her personalized care through the years!
Recently I broke yet another expensive retrainer tray. Dr Johnson quickly responded by making me a replacement in their office that day and shipped it to me overnight, at no cost! I was only without for two days! I was very impressed and appreciated the individualized care and consideration on my budget.
The front office staff — I’ve worked primarily with Isabel — have also been very accommodating with appointment times that meet my needs and also with help navigating the healthcare coverage and claims nonsense.
My only complaint is location as it is no longer (as of four years ago) convenient to where I work or live, yet I still remain a loyal client. I guess that speaks for itself.

Due to an emergency, I went here because it’s really convenient. Dr. Johnson did a great job and is very nice. Because I hadn’t been to a dentist in some time, I scheduled appointments for all the recommendations they made. It cost me a few thousand. Still, I thought they were helpful and did good work.
Flash forward 1 ½ years and I’ve got a cleaning appt with this really aggressive hygienist who’s telling me I need ANOTHER deep cleaning and is «concerned» that I probably need a gum graft. She’s talking incessantly about all the work I need done and asks if I’d like to speak to a periodontist. I wouldn’t commit and tried to get out of the chair after my cleaning but she told me that Dr. Gogol-​Mach was coming out for a consultation.
Dr. Gogol-​Mach and this hygienist start shoving stuff in my mouth, taking pictures and still talking incessantly about getting a gum graft. I was literally in tears I was so mad. That ordeal cost me $ 170 and after getting a second opinion, I actually don’t need a gum graft.
Robbers and liars.

I’ve been going to Dr. Johnson for 5 years now. I moved to Oakland two years ago but I can’t imagine changing dentists. Dr. Johnson is funny and smart, so it’s always a pleasure to visit, but –most importantly– she understands that dentistry is not fun and she goes way out of her way to make sure that you are not feeling discomfort. I really trust her. Elisa, the dental hygienist is also terrific.
As you get older, you start to realize that caring for your teeth is super-​important. I have never felt that they recommended unnecessary work. It’s their job to keep your mouth in its best condition, but they are fine if you decide to delay or avoid work. I have never felt that they were over-​aggressive in suggested treatment.
Bottom line, they are pleasant, friendly, easy to talk to, sympathetic. I don’t look forward to gong to the dentist, but I always look forward to seeing the professionals who work at Embarcadero 4 Dental.
