LOVETHISPLACEANDLOVELOVELOVELOVEPAULA! She always does my hair so amazing and takes great care of me! I drive from Hayward to SF to see her. That’s how good she is!

I got a haircut here last week by Jonathan and it was one of the best I had in awhile. I felt really pampered even though it was just a trim. My bangs were over grown and my hair was dry at the ends. I got my hair washed and a got a great head massage. I also love the hair product that he used to wash my hair. He was very talented, respectful and very knowledgable. He also showed me a trick to trim my own bangs if I ever felt the need. The place was very cozy and clean. It was an over all great experience and will definitely have to come back here. It was simple and classy feel inside.

I just walked by this salon and noticed that they used Aveda products, so I figured they were on the right track. I made an appointment with Paula. She is a very good stylist. After a brief consultation, I suggested that she just do what she thinks is best since she’s the professional — this is a good way to determine if someone really knows how to cut your hair. I have wavy & bushy hair, and it’s easy for a stylist to make it look funky. But Paula did a fantastic job. I also appreciate that she rinsed and conditioned my hair after the cut. So many stylist wash and condition your hair, then cut it, then style it and leave you to walk out the door with little bits of clipped hair falling about your shoulders. The cut took about 45 minutes. Thanks for the good cut!

Been coming here for over a year and Jimmy is fantastic with color! He’s done both highlights and bright colors in my hair and it always looks great. Got a cut this time, too, and I love it! It’s hard to find a place that’s both affordable — especially in SF — and trustworthy, but this one’s a keeper!

Jimmy is by far the best stylist I’ve found in the city. I’ve been to numerous salons, and he is the only one that can get my color right. I’m a brunette and my hair turns orange easily when I get blond highlights. He is the only one that can get it right and give me natural looking highlights without turning my hair orange or brassy. I always get numerous compliments on my hair after I see Jimmy. His cuts are also great. He works fast but with precision. His prices are fair and very affordable. Jimmy is also flexible and makes your visit very pleasant. If you’re looking for a new stylist, I highly recommend him!

Jimmy did my hair(highlights and cuts) the entire 3 years I lived in SF, which tells you how good he is. We have since moved to Chicago and I miss the salon a lot. He returns calls promptly, manages his schedule well, and works efficiently but does a great job. I always felt at home in 837 – and I could walk there from our apartment! Great experience overall.

Since moving to the city, I’ve been looking for a stylist who could cut a pixie that didn’t look extremely man-ish or straight out of beauty school how-to manual. Finally found Jimmy and I’m ecstatic! Love the cut he gave me — it’s clean and modern while still being a little feminine. He was warm and welcoming without being overly chatty and cloying. I will definitely be coming back.

I just moved to the area and needed a hair cut. Nothing fancy, just a simple trim. I like Aveda salons and certainly don’t mind paying a little more for a good hair cut. This place looked cute and had pretty good reviews. I chose to ignore the review about the place being kind of dirty. BIGMISTAKE. This place is REALLYDIRTY. It looks like they don’t actually sweep up the hair and throw it away but rather stick it in the corners and on the rug and in the crevices. It was super gross. My hair cut was just ok and overall I left feeling like I spent a lot of money for nothing. I won’t be going back.

It’s been over three years since my last review, and Eight Thirty Seven is still making my hair look its best. Since I last wrote, Jonathan took my hair from a beauitful chocolate brown to the platinum blonde I’m currently sporting. Nothing phases Jonathan – he makes every color look fabulous. I onIy wish I could have him style my hair every time I leave the house. I will continue going to Eight Thirty Seven and highly recommend it to all my friends and family.

I’m sorry, but this place is a BIG no-no. I went a couple of months back and am still trying to get rid of the crud that I picked up there. A little bit of hair on the floor in the middle of the day, ok not that big of a problem. But scissors and brushes and combs covered in other people’s hair being used on me?! NOTHANKYOU! I would report to the health inspector if I knew how. Drapes being used on person after person? Gross. Really unsanitary and it would be nice if they would pay for my doctors bills from trying to deal with this rash that appeared immediately after a mediocre cut.

I live in the area and always noted the Aveda products in the window as I’m an Aveda junkie. When it was finally time for a new hairstyle, I was sold when I looked up all the Unilocal reviews and decided to add my own… I walked into the comfy space looking like Cousin It and emerged with flippy, healthy shampoo commercial hair. I LOVE my new cut! Jimmy listened and gave me exactly what I wanted while also steering me away from what wouldn’t suite my length of hair. Super easy to make an appointment over email and you can’t beat the price point at $ 55. Only reason why I didn’t give 5 stars is because at Aveda salons I’m used to a nice scalp massage before my cuts but didn’t get one this visit. No worries, I will absolutely be back!

I’ve been going to Cheryl since I moved to San Francisco, and I have always been very happy. She knows exactly what will and won’t work with my hair type, and doesn’t hesitate to tell me, «no» if something won’t work. I really appreciate this, because I’d rather have a cut that doesn’t cause me grief every morning as I’m trying to blow-dry and zoom out the door with only minutes to spare. Cheryl only works limited days, so it’s sometimes hard to find time to see her, but I have heard really great things about Jimmy, the owner of the salon, as well. He is usually the one that helps me schedule my appointments, and he’s always professional and returns my calls within an hour or two(he’s usually working on a client, so follows up after he’s done). Parking around there really isn’t that bad compared to many areas of the city, and it is right by 9th and Irving, where the N and 44 Muni lines stop(and the 43 and 6 are only a block away at 9th& Judah). Cheryl’s the kind of hair stylist that you continue to go to, even after you move out of the city, because she’s that good. Give her a try… but don’t steal my appointment time! :)

I was hesitant about going to a salon in the inner sunset but the salon always looked clean while i walked by and other user reviews drew me in. So I booked an appointment with Jimmy, the owner, for a partial highlight. I couldn’t be happier with the level of service and the final product. I have been there several times over the years for partial highlights and I have never been disappointed. He always gives me EXACTLY what I am asking for. I found other stylists that listen to you but the end result is far from what you wanted. The price point is amazing and compared to other stylist that do what he does… its a steal!!!

So my favorite stylist in the city(Tracy from Firehorse) decided to leave the country for a year, leaving me in shambles to figure out who will cut my hair from now on! After a really mediocre experience at Lotus in Pacific Heights, I decided to give Jimmy a try. He cut my hair exactly how I wanted it! I have really baby fine black hair, and it’s pretty hard to find someone who really knows how to style it right. I will definately be sure to come back again. Oh– and its only $ 55 for a woman’s haircut, what a steal! Update: Did charge me for a regular bang trim and did a bad job– back to Tracy @ firehorse:(

Love Jimmy — he’s been doing my hair for over 3 years and does exactly what you ask and my «natural» blond is always perfect after leaving his salon.

It seems like the salon is changing over to Aveda products and they needed a guinea pig — well, hair model — to try out the new color. I got a great deal and the experience was a joy. Jimmy et al were welcoming and professional. There’s tons of coffee shops and restaurants close by if you wanna make it an extended visit. Highly recommend!

Jimmy is my man. Want to look amazing? Yes, he can do that and more for you. He can make you look good and feel good about yourself all in under 30 minutes! Jimmy knows exactly what will look good for your facial features! And he can tell you what WON’T look good on you… It’s good thing to have someone stop you from making a huge mistake. Cute and clean establishment with great mirrors to admire your new hair in. Cuts cost $ 50 and up, but trust me you will look great and not regret it.

I made an appointment with Aurora after reading all the rave reviews here on Unilocal, and I’m so glad I did. She is awesome! She’s really friendly and easy to talk to, and she really listened to what I wanted. She gave me exactly what I asked for(slightly layered, not much off the length and trim the bangs). Her prices are very reasonable. I know I said I would save my hard-earned cash and always go back to Tony at MNKYTHMP, but, seriously, no matter how long I go in between haircuts, right now I just can’t afford to go to him. Plus 837 is right down the street from where I live so I can just walk there. If you’re looking to try out a new stylist, I definitely recommend Aurora!

I use to go to Jimmy when I lived in the Sunset area. I thought I’d add my thoughts even though it has been a while, but I was always happy when I left so he deserves a Unilocal review. I went in asking Jimmy for a short fun haircut and he knew exactly what I wanted. My hair was very healthy and it grew out very well. I never paid over $ 60 for my wash, cut and style. He’s a nice person and the salon is always clean. If I still lived in the city I would be go back to Jimmy.
