Not impressed by this store. I think that most people come here out of desperation from one of the local hotels, but please, take a short walk east on Pine Street to the J&W Market or down Powell 2 blocks to Walgreens. They never greet us at this store and they charge $ 0.75 to use a credit card, no matter how much you spend. You can tell that their products are rarely rotated and they don’t clean because so many things are covered in dust.

I paid $ 40 for a 750 mL bottle of Tito’s vodka??? Yesterday we paid $ 22 for a bottle five blocks away. This place is for desperate boozers!

Just your typical liquor store… a friend and I stopped by because we wanted to get some drinks for dinner. They have a pretty okay large enough selection of wines and ciders/​beers/​, etc. that if you’re not looking for something super sophisticated, I think you’ll be able to find whatever you want. It’s not upscale or elegant but it’ll do the trick if you just want a quick alcohol fix. We didn’t spend too much time here… just grabbed our drinks and went. Service was gruff but it was efficient which is usually what I care about more. Nothing much to say about this place.

The five stars are hands down 100% –for the efficiency, kindness, and good costumer service from the two main employees at the store. George and Ruiz are incredibly nice, and hardworking guys. I go in here all the time with my boyfriend, and we are ALWAYS nicely greeted by whichever employee is working.
As for the store, George and Ruiz do their best to maintain, and do a great job. Some days I’ll go in more than once, and realize that these guys are there sometimes for entire days. I’ve lived across the street for the past 3 years and I have to say, that the store itself has gotten better maintenance, food, and sanitation wise (although I’m pretty sure that fault should fall more on the owner & his son (Sam I think)). The guys are always monitoring the camera surveillance for shoplifters, and keeping a wide eye on the store. In my opinion, these guys deserve a raise. They’re hardworking, and honest. Never once have I seen a frown on their faces. They always have something positive to say, and even when they seem really tired, they still say it could be worse. THAT is a positive attitude. It is because of these workers, why I keep returning to the store.

Not the most exciting convenience store, and could be a lot better, but I’ve seen worse too.
People are complaining stuff is overpriced here. That’s probably true, but I’d expect a premium from a store that’s open late. Want to pay less? Run down to Market Street.
As for the products, I was able to find some fruit late at night (raspberries were a bit moldy), which was something. Of course most of the rest of the store is ridiculous highly processed junk, although the wine selection is oddly extensive.
As for the beer? Well, not too bad a selection. A step up from most gas stations, but I didn’t spot anything outstanding.
If you go, examine your fruit.

E&E is directly across the street from my building, so I end up there quite often.
It’s usually to buy a MexiCoke or candy bar or some other impulse buy I only really want because it will let me take a brief break from outlining for Torts, which is good because this place will rob you BLIND. I know it’s a convenience store and all, but sometimes the prices look like typos and about 50% of the time you’re about to sign over your firstborn or sacrifice a limb for an item that is about 6 months past its expiration date.
One time I was dying of the flu and I dragged my ass out of bed to this place to get some NyQuil. It was $ 12.99 for the small bottle and on principle alone I could not purchase it. I übered to Walgreen’s and back and bought a huge-​ass bottle of NyQuil-​D for less than E&E charged me. That’s just insulting.
So yeah. Mario and Sam are cool, it’s open fairly late, carries the Haribo staples and a great soda selection. That’s basically all the good, but it’s better than nothing.

I got a tip from the concierges desk at the hotel when I asked where I could pick up some items for breakfast as I was heading out early for a 70 mile bike ride and didn’t want to eat the big hotel buffet before. They suggested E&E. Got a good warm up climbing the hill. It was late so this place is perfect with it’s extended hours. I saw a lot of «premium» items, cliff bars, smart water, coconut water, illy coffee etc. One difficult thing is nothing that I saw had a price tag so I imagine different people get different prices. I wanted some fruit and the selection was limited and some was rank, on this particular night the bananas were good and the oranges were not. I can verify that there are many items still in the store that have a visible layer of dust and a lot of dented canned products. But hey, I found what I needed and I could afford it, it was close so mission accomplished.

The owner and his son are extremely rude! They try to charge more than the sticker price every time they get a chance. Make sure to ask for a receipt and check it against posted prices! They have no clue about customer service or relationship building!
Not only have I had multiple bad customer service experiences here, the level of product they keep on shelves is appalling. Cramped, dusty, overpriced, and the food is always on the verge of expiration.
Also, everything here is at least 1⁄3 more than at Walgreens’ a couple blocks away and about half as good. The single good thing to say about this store would be that the two employed brothers are nice.

The son is nice. The two employed brothers are very pleasant. The father is merely taking advantage of his location. Once he tried to charge me more than the sticker price for a pack of gum, thinking I didn’t notice his trick.
The human mind prizes convenience, so I visit this place frequently. But I would much prefer if the owner put the customer at the forefront of his mind. Tony down the street does, and it shows in the prices and the friendly atmosphere.

I went in recently and I have to say this place has turned around quite a bit. The freezers were fixed and there wasn’t any old ice cream hanging out of its beaten cartons anymore. The prices are still higher than your average corner store, but it has been the saving grace when I need a gatorade or something ASAP and this is next door. Just wish it was open a little earlier and would close a little later!!!

E & E might have had «Fine Foods» back in 1995! This fact can be verified because much of it is still on the shelf in 2012! I go there because it is the closest market to my apartment but I know what to avoid. I stay away from the spoiled ice cream (fix your freezers!) and dented canned goods (and the inch of dust that comes with them)! Ugh! If you want to spend $ 10 for an item that Safeway sells for $ 2.99 this is the right place for you!!!

This is the second closest corner market from my place. It is larger than J&W. It is not a place to shop for cooking an entire meal but few local markets are. They do have a nice selection of the basics you need around the house.
They have a pretty good beer selection.
They are open until 10 pm on Mondays.
They are open until 11 pm on Sundays, Tuesday-​Thursday
They are open until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.
Due to location, I go there quite often. For me, it is handy for grabbing beer, smokes, and other basic supplies.
The staff is always very friendly.

Yeah, I live next door, yeah, it’s convenient, yeah, it has a good variety of wine…
BUT…
I gotta say that I pick up more expired food here than a person should, hopefully I check that date before paying, but sometimes, I forget.
The place is very dirty.
The old man adds a couple of dollars to prices until he realizes that you are a neighbor, because you pointed it out and then brings the price down to «convenient reality».
The one 5 star review they got is from the owners son… isn’t that a little cagey?
The day staff is NOT friendly, or helpful, cuz he’s too busy on the computer or watching TV. The night guy is very nice and friendly, but they got rid of the best night guy they had.
Overall, I’d rather travel an extra block to get fresh, not expired fare.
And, my one suggestion would be to clean, clean, clean… it does matter to consumers, trust me!

This place is not worth the convenience. I won’t buy food there, because it’s always past its expiration date. Medicine, too — seriously, they’ve tried to sell me Nyquil that expired last year.
But, yesterday was the very last straw. I was furiously at work on a project when my fire alarm battery died. For reasons I won’t go into here, my fire alarm requires immediate attention — there’s no way to stop the beeping. So, I decide to go to E&E for a battery, rather than Walgreens, because it’s closer and easier. Huge mistake.
Long story short, the battery I got at E&E failed at 4:25 am this morning, requiring me to hike to Walgreens, — at 4:25 am – anyway. That’s inconvenient.

E&E Fine Foods are far from Fine, but they carry the necessities. For example, I was looking for raisins all over the neighborhood. Of course, in Chinatown, I would get a blank look from the person behind the counter when asked if they carried raisins… No problem, I understand. Xie-​xie, anyway.
At E&E foods I found what I needed and here are two stars for that alone. The store has a lot of stuff: canned, frozen, somewhat fresh, bottled, pickled, preserved, etc. However, prices are pretty steep, even for a neighborhood grocery store. One more star for accepting credit cards.
Very wide selection of alcohol. Good selection of wine. However, again, $ 12 for a Sutter Home? Well, Safeway sells it for $ 3.98. Great selection of hard liquor. What’s great about it is that they sell sample-​sized varieties, which is good if you are making a one-​for-​yourself-​none-​for-​your-​friend cocktail.
Overall, walk to Safeway. Good exercise and good savings.

Having E&E Foods in the neighborhood is kind of like having a benign tumor, albeit one that you’ve lovingly named and even tagged in a Facebook picture or two. It may be grotesque and unsightly, but you secretly enjoy playing with it when nobody else is around. And that’s exactly what E&E has going for it: it’s open later than J&W around the corner (notice a naming theme here? I wonder…), and the guys who sit behind the register watching some inanity or other on the overhead mounted flatscreen do not give a shit about you. They likely won’t even notice you’re there, even while they’re ringing you up, which in my opinion is a mark in their favor. It makes the whole experience so deliciously sordid, like paying an blind amputee for sex.
Don’t bother checking the expiration dates or the price tags on the packaging. I wouldn’t trust the former, and the latter changes on a day to day basis, always in one direction. Can you guess which?
Again, gotta love a place that unashamedly laughs at the back of your head while it searches for new and interesting ways to penetrate you from behind.
I only really come here with Amanda F. for the late night ice-​cream fix anyway, which is always a mistake because their freezers don’t work properly so the ice-​cream texture is usually mealy and grainy with all the thawing and refreezing. But hey, I’m not complaining. I know what I’m getting into when I come here.
Bottom line, if you want some love, an absence of mothball smell from your dry goods, or justifiable convenience store prices, get your shit together and go to J&W a couple of hours earlier.
But if you want to stay up late and feel dirty when you’re all done, then E&E is your pony ride to Candyland.

«Fine» foods is a gross overstatement. Is that what they call canned chili these days?
Nevertheless, it is clean and well stocked as mini-​marts go, with a wide selection of good wine at insanely high prices. The food and sundries are hit or miss, and they could use the space better with a bigger inventory. For example, three flavors of a Monster’s new coffee-​flavored power-​drinks one day and a good selection of Ceres juices from South Africa, yet no chilled coconut juice or soy milk; only two bottles of Sake yet a lot of display boxes of Sam Adams’ new American Heritage collectible beer series; a surprising collection of hardware fasteners but no playing cards. But it’s safe, lowkey, and thanks to a 5-​minute green parking zone, shoppable despite being right on the cable car line. Open until 2AM it’s a godsend to anyone who lives within a block, diminished interest if you’re farther away than that.
