Dr. Factor, DDS

I thought a lot about writing this review because I hate to bad mouth people, but I felt compassion for anyone who would go to Dr. Factor for dental work and unknowingly encounter a similar situation.
Dr. Factor gave me bad dental work that I had to get re-​done a year later by a different dentist. He also pressured me to get a root canal on a tooth that did not need it. Thankfully, I got a second opinion, but I wrote him to inform him of this and called many times, with no avail. He would not return my calls and ignored my letters. I spend a considerable amount of time trying to clear up this matter and he did not respond until I got a third party involved.
I would highly advise you NOT to use Dr. Factor. The amount of pain and trouble I went through because of this bad work I received was a nightmare.

I went in to see Dr. Factor with an attitude. I didn’t think it was right that I should have to pay $ 600 for dental care when I’m already shelling out enough good karma being a social worker. So, I walked in upset and angry — looking for a fight. As much as I tried to pick one, the receptionist wouldn’t have it, and actually insisted on helping me out. She found a way to get the whole root canal procedure covered with their payment plan service and was understanding and compassionate at the same time. She succeded in melting my cold heart, so that by the time I was sitting in the chair waiting for Dr. Factor I was purring like a kitten. He came in, all warmth and smiles, and talked to me for a little bit before looking at my paperwork. (Being treated like a human goes a long way with me.) He took x-​rays, asked questions about my symptoms, and consulted with peers before coming back and saying that he didn’t think I needed to go through with the surgery. He let me know that invasive dental surgery isn’t a permanent solution, and often leads to increasingly more invasive surgeries down the line. And, as a result, I should seriously consider any oral surgery before making the commitment. My dentist actually hinted that I might not actually *need* a root canal, but he didn’t want to risk anything, so he just shooed me away to the endodontist for the procedure. Dr. Factor took the time to go over my x-​rays with me, making sure I completely understood what I was looking at. The root had not been exposed and I basically just had a cavity on the side of my molar. Dr. Factor was also very concerned about the fact that my dentist was prescribing repeated doses of penicillin when I didn’t have an infection. (I ended up getting sinusitis from taking so much penicillin) His basic point was that I should include the healing capability of my teeth when considering any oral surgery. He let me know that I am young enough (29 y.o.) for my teeth to heal well enough from the cavity being filled that I don’t need the root canal.
That is more than any dentist or othodontist has shared with me — ever. Not only did he approach my treatment from a wholistic approach, but he also got me to stop the antibiotics that were actually making me sick.
