Hi:

My name is Carly Braak and I started Dogstar in 2009 because I love dogs. Our goal is to provide the most responsive, professional and above all trustworthy dog walking service possible so people feel comfortable leaving their loved ones with us.

Most of our dog walkers have professional experience with dogs and all of them are licensed by the City of San Francisco, bonded and insured. Additionally they all undergo a thorough background check. You can meet our walkers and our customers via video interviews on our website.

We use the latest technology so you know exactly where your pet is at all times. Each customer receives a QR code that our walkers scan when they arrive at the client’s house and when they leave. That scan generates an automatic notification email to the client.

Every dog walk can be tracked online via GPS, so you always know where your dog is. Our dog walkers always send a personal email detailing the walk and post a picture of the dog on Facebook. We also use an online payment and scheduling system to make dog walks as easy as possible for our clients.

Dogstar Dog Walking was founded in 2009, grew quickly, and now employs 10 full-​time dog walkers. The company’s large staff enables Carly to provide the maximum flexibility for her clients when it comes to scheduling dog walks or pet sitting.

After graduating with a B.A. in marketing, Vancouver native Carly Braak quickly discovered that she did not want to spend her days at a desk. Instead, she pursued her lifelong love of dogs and founded Dogstar Dogwalking in January 2009. Her employees all share her love of dogs, as well as her focus on give Dogstar’s clients, canine and human, the best possible service.

Thanks to Dogstar I can focus on my work during the day and when I am traveling, I sleep well at night. Carly is a godsend — she takes my young, hyperactive pointer/​pitbull mix all over the city for hours. She is empathetic, communicative and diligent. I don’t mind indoor/​outdoor doggy daycares but if you can sign up with Carly, your dog will climb mountains, swim in the ocean and play in the park. My dog has become a part of her extended family — for that I am incredibly grateful.

Our Bernese Mountain Dog/​Standard Poodle mix, Scout, has gone on walks and outings with Dogstar from the time we brought her home as a puppy, around 12 weeks of age. She has literally grown up with them and I couldn’t trust anyone more with my dog than I do Dogstar. Scout has gone with a few different walkers in SOMA and then in Pacific Heights when we moved and we have been more than satisfied with the service. Now, she’s going on off-​leash outings at Crissy Field, which she loves, especially as a high-​energy dog. The walkers leave detailed notes after the walks that talk about how Scout did and if there were any concerns. When Scout got a cut on one of the walks, the walker took her to the vet and stayed with her until the vet could see her. They were in constant contact with me while I was at work.
Dogstar is incredibly flexible with their timing and clearly make your dog’s comfort and safety a priority. We never worry when Scout is with them and will continue using their service!

When we first moved to San Francisco we were concerned about how our older Golden Retriever would adjust to her new urban surroundings. We missed the walking service we had in our hometown very much and didn’t expect to find comparable canine caregivers here. Enter Carly and her team. .. Once she began her regular walks with Dogstar, Maggie seemed so much happier and more relaxed when we returned home from the office each day. More than a dog walking service, Dogstar is a professional, caring and reliable friend — they truly go the extra mile!

My name is Layla (my humans are Jeff and Kelly). I look forward to my daily walks from Carly and friends every week day. We used to go play off leash at all the area dog parks, but now we just hike around the neighborhood, and I couldn’t be happier to see my walker every morning. They poop me out and pamper me so I’m well behaved when my humans come home from work. My humans always seem to know when they pick me up and drop me off, and even where we go on our walks. They show me pictures of my outings, and I like reliving the fun with them.
My humans have recommended DogStar to a bunch of other humans in the building, and I always brag that I get a walk every day when I see other dogs at the park. Although my humans and I are moving to Redwood City and won’t be able to use DogStar anymore, we’re all super thankful for all of the work they’ve done for us over the years.

If you love you pet, keep it FAR AWAY from Carly. I gave Carly a try and I will never put my dog through such an experience again. After she «watched» my dog, I had to take it to the vet and Carly «couldn’t explain”(or was embarrassed to say) what had happened to my poor puppy. I spent a significant amount of time and money taking my dog to the vet because of Carlys SUBPAR DOG CARE.
She takes no responsibility for the dogs she is «responsible for» or herself. She is a liar and a fraud. Carly looks at dogs as if they are dollar signs and treats them with such little respect or dignity. SHE IS NOT A DOG LOVER AND SHE IS NOT TRUSTWORTHY.

Carly went OUT OF HER WAY to help me find a last minute dogsitter to watch my puppy and my 12-​year-​old dog at my SF hotel room for just an afternoon and evening. My older dog has severe dog anxiety due to former abuse, and doggie daycares are not an option for him. Carly was so friendly and so helpful from the get-​go. Unfortunately/​fortunately, I had a friend’s mother who offered to watch them before Carly could confirm a last minute petsitter. She was 100% gracious when it didn’t work out despite her hard work. Thank you, Carly. I will be calling you again…

When I moved to San Francisco in early 2014, one of my first priorities was to find a dog walking company. After researching and talking to a contacts at a number of companies, I was referred to Dogstar and could not be happier with the service they provided to me and to my Puggle, Gary!
Gary typically went on group outings to Chrissy or the Presidio 3x/​week and I loved coming home to a happy, exercised pup! I also loved the email notifications, Instagram and Facebook pics while I was at work and knowing that he was having a great time and in great hands!
He also did weekend/​overnights with Carly or another member of her team and I always received pictures and email updates while out of town, which really put me at ease.
Also noteworthy is that the online portal for scheduling is very convenient and only having to give 24 hours notice was great, as my schedule wasn’t the same each week.
I would absolutely recommend Carly and her team to anyone looking for an incredible dog walking/​dog sitting company!

Also just moved to SF and didnt have a catsitter for our upcoming big trip. Luckily found Dogstar who lovingly also takes care of CATS (and has a few cats herself). Carly came over for a meet and greet and I knew our cats were in excellent hands.
She took care of our 2 cats for 1 month. She would email us status reports often with their photo. She went beyond normal catsitting when she asked where our vacuum was. Came back to our kitties who looked best they’ve ever looked! (We do 1 mo trip every year and have had cat sitters their whole lives. We often would come back with them very overweight). They were not overweight, fur was great, they were relaxed, and very happy! Would use Dogstar again with total confidence. Highly recommend!!!

I just moved to SF not long ago and I was very lucky to find Carly and the Dogstar walkers! My golden retriever was treated to hikes, swims, and outings 3 times a week! My favorite thing about this company is the pictures of my dog on Instagram and the updates after every outing. We had Carla as our regular walker and she took such good care of my dog and ensured he was fed and watered when he got home.
Another notable plus was the flexible scheduling with Dogstar which was paramount because my work schedule varies. They just needed at least 24 hours notice in advance.
All in all I would highly recommend this company!

I can’t believe I’m having to write this review. I do not like writing bad reviews, especially for a company that obviously has a stellar reputation.
However, my experience with Carly & Dogstar was horrible. I contacted Carly, via email to enroll my dog with Dogstar. She quickly responded via email. When I responded back to her, answering her questions, I didn’t hear back from her. So a week later I re-​sent a follow-​up email asking about next steps. She apologized for not getting back to me and said my email «got buried in her inbox». At that point we agreed to set up an evaluation meeting for my dog 2 weeks from the date. When the date was approaching, I sent an email confirming the date for the evaluation /​introduction. I never heard back. I followed up with another email, and never heard back. By this time, our agreed meeting time had passed. I then called and left Carly /​Dogstar a message and no one returned my call. In my phone message I even asked, «if you aren’t taking new clients anymore, could you just give me the courtesy of letting me know so I can make other arrangements». No one returned my call.
I can’t make heads or tails of this whole situation. The reviews of Dogstar on Unilocal are fantastic. It just makes no sense. A successful business wouldn’t treat potential customers like this. Just on a common curtesy level, this was a very disappointing experience.

We’ve had a number of dog walkers over the years and I can say that Dogstar has been the best by far. The petcheck technology they use to automatically email us when our dog was picked up and dropped off was awesome. Their walkers (Judd) are great and overall the experience and communication was always fantastic. Can’t say enough good things about them.

We have used a couple of dog walking services since moving to the west coast and this, by far, has been the best. From the moment our dog met Carly, we knew he was sold. His primary dog walker was Judd and he was always prompt, reliable, and nice. One of my favorite features is that they scan in and out each day so you know exactly when your dog is out for his walk. This eliminated all the anxiety we had about whether our dog was actually getting walked. I would highly recommend and if we move back to an area they cover, we would ask them to walk our dog again.

My fiancé and I moved into a 600 square foot apartment in July of 2013. Since we both work in the financial district, we figured we would trade off biking home to let the dogs out during the day since the apartment is only 2.5 miles from downtown. We tried this out for a few weeks, but it was just too difficult with our busy work schedules to bike home and take our lab mix and Italian Mastiff out on the walk they deserved in the middle of the day.
We had just recently adopted our Mastiff and we weren’t sure how she would react to other dogs as it took some time for our two dogs to get used to each other. Also, the Mastiff would got really worked up when she saw other dogs and she had even nipped at one of our friend’s puppies when she met him. She is over 100 pounds and we were worried about her being aggressive and potentially hurting another dog.
Carly (DogStar owner) came over and met both dogs. For first couple of days, Judd (DogStart walker) took just our dogs on their own private walk and then integrated them into a group of about 6 or 7 other dogs. Judd sent us a daily email telling us how the walks went and my fiancé and I honestly did not believe that Marley and Maya were as well behaved as Judd said they were. After all, we had seen how Maya and Marley had reacted to other dogs.
I worked from home one day and forgot the change the DogStar schedule. Judd walked into the apartment with about 6 dogs and I figured my dogs were going to go crazy and go after the other dogs that were in THEIR territory. Instead, Marly and Maya casually and calmly went up to all the other dogs and said a dog hello. I told my fiancé about this but she didn’t believe me. On another day, she worked at home and witnessed the same exact thing. At that point, we were both sold.
We used DogStar for about 5 months and would continue to use them but we bought a house (with a yard) in Oakland.

Dogstar has officially raised the bar for pet-​sitting. I recently made arrangements with Carly (the owner) to feed and care for my two cats while I was out of town over the holidays. Like many cat owners, technically I could leave a million bowls of food out and the cats would be fine for a few days, but I hired Dogstar because it’s important to me that my babies get affection and attention while I’m gone; I just need that peace of mind or I’ll worry incessantly.
I got a detailed email from Carly every day with photos of my cats playing, getting snuggles, eating treats, and generally looking calm, happy and very well cared-​for. This service is worth every penny. If you love your pets like I do, and want a trustworthy and caring provider when you’re out of town, call Carly first.

Dogstar is AMAZING!!! I’ve had negative experiences with group walks before but after meeting Carly I could tell that her and her team would take care of our Nacho!
The team at Dogstar is extremely reliable, and I receive real time updates on a daily basis. Lauren is super sweet and in addition to being a dog whisper, she could be a professional pet photographer! I love checking the Dogstar Facebook page daily for recaps of Nacho hanging out with his pals!

The good people at Dogstar have made our lives so much easier and our doggie Taj loves his outings, especially his long walks on the beach. He always comes back a happy, tired, tail wagging, tongue lolling, eventually napping pooch.

Carly is awesome, a huge dog lover and so relaxed and patient; which is great when you’re an over-​protective dog owner prone to second guessing everything and freaking out. Lauren is absolutely fantastic, equally a dog lover and mine adore her. We could not be more pleased. The icing on the cake is the service — notifications when your pets are picked up and returned home, recaps of their adventures, pictures of their playtime, and easy scheduling. Little things that make a HUGE difference. Pricing is totally reasonable and worth every penny.
