Dian Meechai Dance Instructor

If I were to name the single best decision in planning our wedding it was to hire Dian Meechai as both our dance instructor — and singer — at our wedding.
Neither of us is a natural dancer and learning choreographed steps is not something that comes easy to us. That said, Dian took our song choice (a classic disco number) and turned it into a 2 minute piece that was fun, creative… and, best of all, got everyone up on their feet with looks of delight. We can’t thank Dian enough for her patience and flexibility in ensuring we were going to be able to pull this dance off! We just loved working with her — and found ourselves practicing between session because she motivated us to put our best foot forward (no pun intended).
In getting to know Dian, we discovered that she’s a woman of many talents and singing is but among those talents. We asked her if she’d sing one of our favorite songs («Dream a Little Dream of Me») as a surprise ending to our wedding. She arrived at the wedding looking like a million bucks and performed an emotionally-​packed and pitch-​perfect rendition of the song that lit up the room. Her energy and impeccable voice got everyone on the dance floor for a romantic final slow dance. It was a magical moment and truly a highlight of the evening.

Dian has been teaching me dancing for over 4 years. I love the showcase performance routines that she has comes up over this time — rich in character and full of creative choreography. And the lifts that we’ve done are absolutely spectacular! (she is fearless) Lately, we’ve been focusing on flexibility and stretching for ballroom dancing (as I’ve gotten more serious about it). She’s very knowledgeable about the subject matter and pushes me, with noticeable results in the last year. She’s friendly, punctual and fun to work with. I can wholeheartedly recommend her to anyone interested in dancing and dance-​related fitness.

This review was originally for Vima dance studio, but it was all about Dian choreographing our wedding dance (as well as teaching me how to actually do it) so I’m putting it here! It reads:
Our instructor, Dian, understood right away the lighthearted tone that we were trying for and had a fleshed-​out dance ready for us when we showed up for the first lesson (my fiancée– now wife– had sent an email beforehand in hopes of finding the perfect match). We had an unusual vision, and Dian created a dance that incorporated elements of salsa, swing, samba, ballroom, and even hip-​hop into three and a half minutes.
In 8 lessons, Dian had us dancing up a storm! We finished learning the dance on the penultimate lesson and had the last one for fine-​tuning and general moral support (which she is very good at). The dance was the highlight of the wedding! Our guests are still talking about it and begging us for video. We owe it all to her!

We first started going to Dian for dance lessons when my fiancé surprised me with lessons for my birthday. We covered a number of dances: salsa, foxtrot, waltz… she always made sure to work on the things that we were interested in.
We had such a great time that when we got engaged, we immediately thought of Dian.
Not only is Dian professional and patient, she’s a lot of fun as well! We always look forward to our lessons with her. Our choreography for our wedding dance is tons of fun, and Dian is always teaching us the fundamentals to make sure that we look good doing it too.
She’s thorough and reliable, which seems like a «well duh» thing to be… but trust me, they are actually rare (and valuable) traits to have.
Highly recommend for any student (beginner, intermediate, or advanced) itching to hone their ballroom dance skills, or a couple who wants to choreograph a special first dance together. If you love dance you should go to Dian!

I take Dian’s «Flexy GoGo love» dance class at the Martial Arts school on Stanyan (@ Page) as often as i can. I love this class! I’m not a confident dancer but Dian’s fun and supportive class is a great way for me to loosen up and let go of some inhibitions. It’s pretty much non-​stop action for most of the class so it’s great cardio, plus she does a warm-​down stretch at the end, for joint and muscle health. I can’t recommend this class highly enough!
