The Dholrhythms Dance Company is co-​founder and headliner of the legendary monthly club night Non Stop Bhangra at the Rickshaw Stop in SF. Dholrhythms hosts classes, workshops, performances & events that celebrate the beautiful folk dances & rhythms of Punjab, India. Led by creative director Vicki Virk, Dholrhythms highlights the ancestral & ethnic roots of the Punjabi dance forms while pushing boundaries with contemporary influences. The result is a fresh and exciting dance full of joy, energy, and passion. Dholrhythms Dance Company has been featured on some of the largest stages in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond including Stern Grove Festival, Michael Franti’s Power to the Peaceful Festival, Yerba Buena Gardens Festival, Grand Performances (LA), Levitt Pavillion (Pasadena) and more.

Dholrhythms Weekly Bhangra Classes: San Francisco, Every Tuesday 8−9pm at ABADA Studio in the mission; Berkeley, Every Saturday from 9−10am At Ashkenaz. Drop-​ins are welcome in both classes!

Great way to have a blast, let loose and distress. Vicki is an awesome instructor and I always have so much fun dancing with her. If you have any hesitations about keeping up or having two left feet, you can throw all those worries out the window and just know Vicki’s easy going, positive and encouraging attitude is going to guide you through non-​stop, energetic, enriching fun. And aside from her, you’ll be surround by other fabulous women with dancing feet.

Just got done with another class and boy I am exhausted and sweaty. I’ve never really been one for taking dance classes mainly for my lack of coordination but every time I come to this class I get a real kick out of pushing my embarrassment levels even further. The instructor has a real knack for teaching in an easy to learn way, going step by step with lots of repeating, then at the end of class you have a whole routine. At one point my brain lost all sense of what I was suppose to do next however, my body had practiced the steps so much it naturally knew what to do. Love this class!

Get ready to dance your socks off.
After learning about my enthusiasm for bhangra music, a friend brought me to my first class. I was hooked immediately. It was (and still is) the most fun you can have on a Tuesday night. Or ever. It is more like a party than a dance class. Ok, a hot and sweaty party, but aren’t those the best kind?
Vicky’s energy and enthusiasm are inspiring. Everyone connects to her joy and leaves the class smiling and full of energy. There are no special outfits or shoes. Just big grins.
The steps are explained clearly, but even if you have trouble, technique is less important than attitude. Have fun!

My sister planned her own birthday bash to do something fun and exciting and kept the outing a secret from all of us.
We showed up last night and found out we were going to learn how to do Bhangra Dancing! It was a great surprise and an awesome class! We had so much fun with Vicky. She is an excellent teacher and really broke things down for a class full of beginners. I loved the music and dancing to it and Vicky even gave us demo CDs with music so we could practice. I highly recommend it and can’t wait to go back!

Bhangra instructor and creator of the Dholrhythms dance troupe extraordinaire, Vicky Virk is a true delight. She and her dance company perform all over the Bay Area and teach in Berkeley and in San Francisco.
Bhangra is celebratory Indian dance. Whenever I go to a Bhangra dance or lesson I feel energized and happy. Vicky is a wonderful teacher. She instructs clearly and is very enthusiastic. Members of her dance troupe also assist in the class.
Dholrhythms collaborate with the Nonstop Bhangra dance every 3rd Saturday of the month.
Vicky and her troupe also teach a mini-​lesson at that dance and perform. I am all smiles during and after the classes and dances. Check it out!
