Delessio Market & Bakery

I like the baked goods and the convenience of shopping here. I stopped by this afternoon to purchase a cake for a friends birthday. It wasn’t busy and the gal working was sitting on a stool behind the counter. She wasn’t very friendly and acted like she didn’t care. I noticed most of the tables in the dining section were dirty.

*****HEALTH ISSUE WARNING*****
1) DONT BUY ANYTHING FROM HOT BAR. That food is not kept hot or warm. It’s only under some lights which is very dangerous.
2)) Beyond STINGY. You can’t have a napkin there if you bought your stuff at Falletti. You can’t ask for anything, not even a straw. And they’re inside Falletti’s foods.
3) Beyond EXPENSIVE. Ridiculous prices. 3 – 4 times overpriced from already high prices.
4) They have NOTHING gluten free –vegan.

Came here because i was craving Tres Leches. It’s a bakery stand in the larger market and i couldn’t help myself but pick up a few extra things while i was there. Had the blondie and the lemon cupcake. All were yummy but i was looking forward to the tres leches cake… which was also lovely. The flavors were there, my only complaint was that the cake was not evenly moist with the milk mixture. There were some spots that were melt in your mouth from the milk (my favorite) and there were some that was just cake.
I’m rating based on the pastries, customer service is a different story. Maybe because it was somewhat early in the morning (10ish) or maybe just because they didn’t want to be there, but the staff weren’t eager to help us, i think i waited around for a little (when there was someone standing right behind the register) before i finally asked them for help. But the kicker, the one standing behind the register didn’t help me, it was the 2^nd staff that arrived a few minutes earlier that ended up helping me.
Oh well, if i’m in the area and want dessert i’ll stop in.

buy this cake yesterday that today was a special day for my son’s birthday cake is old and hard dry impossible to eat very bad experience would not return

Came at 745pm and tres letche cake was sold out but was able to get some ice cream … They have another store on market street also they don’t make bakery items here they’re made at market street location. Humphry ice cream is always amazing and organic too! Love it! I will be back tomorrow morning for my cake

Looking for a quick great breakfast? This is the place! Wonderful omelettes, amazing pastries, totally fresh foods. It’s the hybrid version of Whole Foods with a local touch.

Perfectly located across from the DMV, the hot and cold salad bar is perfect for a quick and healthy meal.

I pay more here than at whole foods hot bar, but I appreciate the variety. Those roasted carrots are basically cooked in delicious butter. The raspberry crumb bar is huge and delicious and also full of butter :) The staff are always there, and they are normal. It’s a hot bar.

Last minute stop for dinner party desert and Delissio came to the rescue! Tres Leches cake was a hit, as usual. Visitors from Russia were blown away and already jonesing for another slice.

Cheers to this store in Lower Haight! I came here with two friends from my friend’s recommendation. This store reminds of a Whole Foods/​Berkeley Bowl where you have the grocery part of the store, and there is a hot food/​salad bar on the side. We ate the sidebar, which was mighty delicious.
FOOD: Thai chicken. The only chicken somebody needs in their life. It is quite good, seasoned well, and they also have the sweet Thai sauce on it. Also, the ribs are really good which has good fall off the bone texture and isn’t covered completely in sauce. The polenta cakes are really good too, where the cornmeal isn’t dry or too dense. I also liked the cabbage dish they had. The cabbage was cooked in a way to remove that cabbage-​y taste with some acid and apples I believe. Mighty good!
Weighed by the pound and you can get a rewards card for paying for 10 pounds and get the 11^th for free!
A great place if you want something fast and delicious after you finish grocery shopping.

Wonderful find in our time in SF. Great cheeses, beers, and people. Not badly priced for any of the aforementioned, either.

SO i love when places have already made food. When im starving and need something to eat fast, quick and delicious… Delessio is my «GO TO» shop. They give you a loyalty card that gives you one pound of free food when you buy 10 pounds. It might sound like a lot of food but trust me, if you live close by, the ten pounds adds up quick. They also have breakfast food in the morning. You can fill a box full of sausages and bacon and pay under 5 bucks!
If you want to fulfill your sweet tooth… they have mounds of cakes, cookies and pastries. For the most part the chocolate chip cookies are bomb… although one time i did get a really stale cookie… When im traveling to visit my parents in the valley, i pick up a cake and my family loves them.

This is the first time I have the urge to write a bad review: I am presently trying to eat this brisket I bought from the prepared meal section. It looked pretty appetizing at first glance in the tray… But then when I was putting the meat in the box I noticed 75% of it was fat. I proceeded to pick the pieces with the most meat. Now I am trying to eat this meat that has to be one of the lowest grades meat I’ve ever had in my life. Of course I knew it wasn’t organic or free range but this I can’t even chew: it’s hard and nervy… On top of this expensive disgusting meat the woman at the counter is always unpleasant. Three pieces of bad quality meat for $ 13 is not acceptable.

I’ve always picked up amazing cakes and pastries at this bakery. My favorite is malted vanilla and salted Carmel. They also make an amazing tres de leche cake. It’s great to have the convenience of prepackaged cakes to take to any party as a gift. My experience has been that they’re always fresh and D Lish

Terrible cake. Expensive (For what it is), dry, too much sugary icing.
Had the Red Velvet cake for my Birthday and found it to be one of the worst velvet cakes I’ve ever had. Nothing terrible with the actual taste, it was simply too dry, too much icing that was far too sugary it overpowered it, and pricey for the quality.
Absolutely not up to the standards it tries to present itself as a bakery. I’m pretty certain I can bake a better cake and will be doing that in the future.

I have a sweet tooth. I’ve made a sport of bakery noshing. I used to have a tradition of visiting a bakery every Sunday. I watch what I eat during the week, but on weekends all bets are off. And Sunday was bakery day. Order a smörgåsbord of goodies, & just go to town. What bakery? I hit them all. Miette, Kara’s, That Takes The Cake, Cups & Cake, Sweet Things, Tartine, Boulange (all of them), Noe, John Campbell’s, Arizmendi, Schubert’s…they were all a part of my rotation. They each have things that they do better than others; they’re all stars in their own right. I will leave their specific details for further reviews. But Delessio’s? I could never forget Delessio’s.
When I hear Delessio’s, I think of 3 things…
Tres leches cake. I drool.
Chocolate bubble wrap. Yes, chocolate bubble wrap. And yes. It’s even cooler than it sounds. You can order it by the slice, pound, or in major bulk for parties or events.
And my favorite… The Rabanada. A Brazilian specialty. Bread soaked in a sublime custard mixture & then fried, & then covered in cinnamon sugar. This is SINFULLY good. One bite & I’m flooded w bliss, guilt, & regret. But bliss always wins. I’m perfectly aware of how bad this is for me, & I just don’t give a damn. I can always just double my treadmill time for a couple of days. Happily so. It’s that good.
It takes your coffee or tea to a different dimension.
Btw, they have great food too. The honey teriyaki style chicken is fabulous. And the sandwiches rock.

I was a really big fan of their tres leches cake so I ordered the cake for a party. I really talked this cake up so was super disappointed when we cut into it and the cake was runny. Flavors were ok but I couldn’t get over it being the consistency of a cake soaked in ice cream. It was refrigerated almost the whole time from when I picked it up until it was served. The slices at the store don’t have this problem so not sure if this was a fluke. I definitely wouldn’t risk ordering it again. I left a message for the manager who works from the other location but he never called back so now I’m Unilocaling about my disappointment.
FYI, a pint of Humphry Slocombe is $ 8 which I thought was expensive until I crazily bought a pint from Bi-​rite for $ 8.99.

The dessert sucks! It is either too sweet (dulce de leche), bland (bread pudding), dry (cupcakes) or just gross (various old cakes for sale).
You would be better off eating a Twinkie.
I’ve tried almost all of them over the past 3 years thinking that there has got to be something good. Don’t let your eyes fool you!

Quite disappointed when I went to pick up my cake which costs me almost $ 100. They told me there was no box for my cake. Really? I’ve worked in a bakery before. And every morning we would go through our orders to see who was picking up what. So they said,” no one sent us a cake box, even though they should have.” CL was super pissed because I don’t know how they expected us to carry a ¼ sheet cake home in our car. Anyway, so one of the gals finally went into the back and came back with this gigantic packing box and she taped down our cake into that. Shame on you Delessios for not having cake boxes for your customers! The cake was decent but fell apart when cutting some of the slices. This only indicates that the cake was frozen before. Don’t think I will come back for their cakes.

Good selection, very pricey.
They do have a section where you can grab this and that to pull together a pre-​cooked meal. They have a few interesting dessert options.
I liked the ice cream sandwich selection. It’s-It and some Marie’s ice cream. The coffee one was delicious. You have to eat it in the wrapper because the chocolate is nice enough that it will melt quickly on contact with the skin.
