David Uthman and his staff, especially Venus, have been our traffic attorney for over 10 years now, since my dad and I were taxi drivers here in SF and never a time, have they disappointed us! If I can recall, all our cases were always dismissed, or if not, he would reversed the citation from a traffic to a non-​traffic! One star reviews seem to vanish, consider this a warning. The «free» legal consultation is with Chinese secretaries steering you towards levels of service. This guy only does what you can do yourself with his type of batch processing. He cancelled 2 appointments at the last minute and then lied about being busy in court. If Uthman is your defense attorney, expect the most rudimentary plea bargaining and apathy. Save your money, go online for a defense strategy or look for another lawyer slightly more competent and trustworthy– this won’t be difficult.

David Uthman is indeed as his website attests, that being San Francisco’s most respected attorney, Earlier this year, I was returning home after a rehearsal with my fellow Board members of my Company and was stopped by undercover cops. These officers charged me for possession of «deadly weapons», those «weapons» actually being movie props I use for my artistic and film productions.
I, being 22, and never involved with the criminal justice system before on the wrong end, was obviously frightened for my record and unaccustomed with this procedures of the court nor the law. I first spoke to him the night before my arraignment where I hired him. David Uthman explained my options, attended my arraignment, and after two court appearances after, ultimately got all charges dismissed.
I firmly recommend this professional attorney to anyone facing criminal charges and or traffic matters. He is a veteran scholar of the law whom is highly knowledgeable on the above mentioned matters, and from my observance, very respected in the courtroom by prosecution and the judge alike.

My experience with David Uthman’s office has been a wash.
I discovered the office after walking outside the SF traffic courthouse. Uthman’s office is strategically located directly across the street.
They helped me clear 2 tickets. However, on their 3^rd assignment they messed up in my opinion. The judge doubled my fine, and Uthman’s office did not tell me this news for days. When I called the office, they mistakenly said that the ticket was cleared — and then retracted this. I was disappointed by their customer service and how they worked with me.
Honestly, all else being equal, I’d rather transfer funds to the City of SF rather than a law firm. I’m planning to find alternatives for any future traffic tickets.

He might be useful for police issues tickets, but not of any help with red light violations. He issued a form letter with the final result… «At that time the attorney did a plea bargain with the officer and he agreed to amend your original charge which is a point violation to a non-​point violation, but the court rejected the deal. So the attorney requested traffic school for you to save your point. » This all sounds great except I had a red light violation so no officer was involved, and I had the option of traffic school from the get go. I figure for the $ 200 fee he could have attempted to at least reduce the fee… or at least send a response that is specific to my case. If you want a robo form, might as well just save a couple hundred and sign up for ticket assassin…

Got my ticket dismissed! The fee was $ 300 less than my ticket… Not to mention another point on the old record. They took care of everything and calked me about 6 months after I hired them to let me know the ticket was dismissed that morning. Best news ever!

I hired David Uthman about a year ago and found his firm to be excellent representation. The matter was handled professionally and with courtesy. Thanks to Marla and the Uthman Traffic clinic for helping me fight my ticket in San Francisco. I would do business with this company again.

Mr. Uthman is absolutely useless and incompetent. All he does is to observe the case and let the legal process take its way. If you represent yourself you will have the same outcome! He maybe good for beating a $ 100 tick, but for DUI he is simply USELESS!!!

This law firm has been outstanding. I got a camera ticket in San Francisco. I found this law firm on Unilocal.I deliverd a ticket to them and in 6 month I received a letter that the case has been dismissed! I highly recommend it to everybody.

I received a red light camera tkt in the mail, which i wanted to argue against the circumstance. I looked on Unilocal,and called the number for Mr. Uthman on Friday. Received a voice mail that they had walk-​in consultations from 9:30−4 Mon-​Thurs. Left a msg about my tkt and would like to speak with someone regarding the tkt. No call back on Monday. Tuesday called again, and left the same msg about the tkt. I received a phone call from his secretary about 20min later, who recommend that I go across the street to 850 Bryant (Police Dept) and talk with a police officer to get «hjs» opinion on the tkt. Really??? I couldn’t believe that was the advice i was getting from this gal. Don’t SFPD’s support one another and the law… as if i was going to get any support from the police dept. I decided i needed to go in person to Mr. Uthman office in order to get better customer service and advice regarding this matter. So went today, Wed., hopeful i would get a chance to talk with someone else who knew more about the law and red light camera tkts. Not So. The same gal who i spoke to over the phone, was the only person in this small little tiny office, and once again recommended I go to the 4^th or 5^th floor (she was not sure) to ask to speak to a police officer to get his/​her opinion. I asked, where was Mr. Uthman, and she told me very honestly, he rarely is here!!! So much for this lawyer arguing a case for you… and having his unexperienced secretary offering bad advice to the public, when she has no legal experience whatsoever. Your better off going in front of the judge yourself, as i have read on many blogs about traffic court, and pleading no contest, and asking for traffic school and getting a reduced fine.
Do Not Go Here Looking For Legal Help. Like the gal said… Mr. Uthman, rarely comes into the office.

I’m a good driver but somehow I have a bad Police karma :(Police love to pull me over. One day I got frustrated and refused to sign a citation and I end up in jail. I went to Mr David K Uthman and told him about what happen to me, we sat in his office for a good half an hour during which he explained how he will get me out of this trouble. I didn’t have to go to court. Mr Uthman had my case redused and send to a Community court and then was DISMISSED. Great Job. Now my record are all clean.

Wow. This law firm has been outstanding. I got pulled over, and given a ticket from a san francisco policeman. The event was not to my likely nor was the ticket. I quickly got on Unilocal and found this law firm. After checking the law firm out (looked them up on the CA state bar, they had NO issues). I called them, they asked me to fax in a copy of my ticket. the court date was the next day and i was worried that there might be an issue. They told me not to worry and they took care of everything. 3 months later, they called me (yesterday), and told me that the case has been dismissed! they saved me a great amount of money. Their price is a great deal and cheap for the service that they provide. i highly recommend it to you Unilocalers and have already started referring friends.

I received 3 traffic citations in the past year.
1^st ticket was in San Mateo, illegal lane change. I basically went straight ahead through an intersection from a left-​only lane.
2^nd ticket was in Palo Alto, for rolling through a stop sign.
3^rd ticket was in SF for an illegal left turn (turned left even though there was a no-​left turn sign on the intersection).
David’s office was very good with email correspondence and prompt with all notifications. For this reason, I was very lenient with my rating.
Of the 3 tickets above, ONLY the third got dismissed, the first two did not. I rated David accordingly. It seems from the other reviews is that his office is very reliable as long as you are dealing with traffic violations within San Francisco. Not so for San Mateo and Santa Clara counties.

I am VERY pleased.
We met shortly before court went into session. He said he knew the cop who gave me the ticket, and we both saw that he was present. David approached him and asked him if he would consider reducing the charges. He agreed! I could not have done this on my own!
So the outcome for me is excellent — the fine won’t be horrible and I will not have to do traffic school, and I will remain eligible to do driving school if I should ever need to. (I don’t plan on ever needing it)
David seems to be well liked and respected among SFPD and this is to your advantage if you ever get a moving violation — especially if your case is similar to mine where some of what I got cited for was subjective ! (I did stop at that the stop sign, honest!)
David’s office assistant is efficient.
He’s friendly, smart, and he treated me, as well as an Indian man who was also there fighting a ticket, very well. 4 paws up for for David Uthman!

I received a ticket for stopping a bit over the white line at a stop sign (I was in a van and wasn’t too used to the brakes) and received a ticket. I searched for many hours for an attorney and decided from Mark’s review to try Uthman out.
I just faxed in the ticket and called to confirm they received it and that was it. I guess that would be my only complaint, that there is no contact and you have to call in to receive updates, but they have a nice secretary who pulls your file within seconds and tells you exactly what’s going on.
Three months later the ticket was dismissed (I have no idea how) and I jumped for joy. Spending $ 200 on getting the ticket dismissed probably saved me over $ 1000 in insurance increases AND for paying for the actual ticket would have cost. I am very grateful, and really recommended using this attorney.
One suggesting though that Mark touched on is don’t admit ANYTHING when stopped for a ticket. Be courteous, but do not admit to actually running a stop or that you were ‘just going 80 mph.’ The police officer WILL write down what you say on the back of the ticket, and if it goes to trial Uthman may have a harder time just getting it dismissed.
