Da Vinci Villa

So to start off I’d like to point out that it will cost $ 30 a night to PARK here! How else do you get to a hotel? I would assume parking is included, since when you book online at Orbitz they won’t mention the extra charge. Although everywhere in San Francisco you can expect to pay for parking, I would expect the hotel have included parking.
They are not the most expensive hotel around but it is clean and stocked with the essentials just like every other $ 60 hotel in the world. No fridge in our room, to our surprise. Just two queens and a tv. To get ice I had to go to the top floor and it was quite a walk from our room. Our shades are broken and will not pull up or go down all the way. The kids were interested in watching the cars on van ness but unfortunately we couldn’t roll the shades up. There are no curtains just shades.
We ordered pizza from a local delivery pizza restaurant and they made us pick it up from the lobby because they wouldn’t let the delivery person to our room! A large group of over 30 people was in the lobby checking in, and got in the way using the elevator for 15 minutes. Got locked out of the hotel and lost on the way to the lobby also, but whatever that’s normal right?
All in all our stay in San Francisco has been average, and this hotel is fitting the part. Average is the word. Thanks for reading.

For the cost of this hotel, I expected so much more. I realize that SF is expensive, but at least deliver superb service with your price. I arrived early and I was in a great mood. A little stressed from driving in SF, but I never take out my stress on someone assisting me provided they are cordial. The employee promptly informed me that check in was at 4, but he checked and 1^st found a room on the 5^th floor, then said there was a better room on the 3^rd floor. Grateful to be allowed up early, I went to the room. The room faced the parking lot (I don’t really care), it was a corner room, just off the street (got to love the SF hills that put the 5^th floor on the bottom floor), the window was open so I closed it and the locking mechanism didn’t appear to work, then I noticed that although the deadbolt engaged, one of the other locks didn’t work. The fire escape was just out the door too. As a single traveling female, I became more than a little concerned so I returned to the lobby after getting lost, using 2 elevators and navigating the hallways.
The same employee that checked me in and who I’d had a nice conversation turned into an unhelpful condescending person. He had the nerve to inform me that «I didn’t give him a chance to explain about the room». That surprised me and I replayed the memory in my head about my check in experience (was I rude and just didn’t think I was?). I explained that I’m a single traveling female, you put me in a room that is right by the fire escape, I’m not far enough above the street (again SF hills) where I feel confident that no one will access the room while I’m there or away, the latch on the door is broken and the window doesn’t seem secure enough. He promptly informs me that there aren’t any more rooms. So I asked about the 1^st room he offered on the 5^th, to which he simply shakes his head indicating that its no longer available. Check in is at 4 so they’ll hold my luggage for about 3 hours while another room becomes available.
I return to my room and gather my belongings and trek back through the hotel maze to the Lobby. The now snobby self righteous employee prepares my luggage ticket. A second had overheard the conversation and offers a room on the 5^th floor overlooking the parking lot that’s available now and I wouldn’t need to wait. He then explains that I wouldn’t be able to move again. I promptly told him that I didn’t care about the view, I only cared about the accessibility of the room to other people. The corner room felt unsafe, I had a really bad reaction to it so I didn’t want to be in it. (BTW…I travel for work and I swear I have never ever ever asked to switch rooms or complained)
I finally got a room that I felt comfortable and safe in… but never will I visit this place again. The price is ridiculous for a hotel no better than a Best Western or Holiday Inn. In fact, I would have been in much better accommodations had I elected one of those. The snitty employee, the lack of an onsite restaurant, the lack of valet parking, the heater one of those water heater systems and the air conditioner was a device half my size located sitting on the floor of the room. I spent almost $ 2,000 on this room which is ludicrous! I got bath towels and a robe out of this visit. Steer away!

good place near in the city to stay rather than the expensive ones on Union Square… clean and neat rooms… fairly good room service…
hope they had /​have some variety in the breakfast options…

The worst hotel I’ve ever been. First of all, the room is surprisingly small, with a super tiny bathroom which is next to your bed (imagine the smell when someone is in the bathroom). And there is always a bad smell in the room so that you have to open the window all the time with the fan on. But our room is facing the street so if we open the window it’s very noisy. Stay away from this hotel and have a nice trip.
Another bad thing happened today: we left the towel for change on the floor, BUT! They didn’t change it and instead they fold it and put it on the shelf! When I opened it I saw the stain on it! Disgusting!!!

Honestly, it’s not a bad place to stay and you pretty much get what you pay for…
First thing, you have to pay $ 30 dollars a day if you want to park in their garages. According to my boyfriend, that’s a common thing in San Fran, so I guess it’s not that bizarre. It’s just bizarre to me because I’ve never had to deal with that. If you want to save your $ 30, you could park on the side streets but you have to move your car at 7AM.
This is nothing against the hotel, but we got in at midnight and wanted something to drink. They have vending machines in their car garages, so we tried to buy a bottle of water. It ended up taking my $ 2 lol…
Since that happened, my boyfriend wanted to talk to the front desk to see if we could get a reimbursement or something. He ended up giving up and said that the layout is like a labyrinth and he didn’t know where he was exactly going.
We stayed in a room with a king size bed, which was great. My only gripe was that the only main lighting for that area was coming from the ceiling fan and it was pretty dim for us to move about.
They provide a complimentary breakfast, which was decent? It’s the usual continental breakfast at any hotel. Also, the wifi is surprisingly good. I had no problems with that at all.

The room was clean and comfortable, but there was a strange odor and we kept the window open when we were in there. The bathroom looks like it was recently renovated and is nice for a small space.
Staff was courteous and quickly checked us in.
The Continental breakfast (breadfast) is served in the Chinese restaurant next to the hotel and consisted of bread, bagels, waffles, hard boiled eggs, yogurt, bananas, cubed pineapple, and cereal. Not much to complain about since it’s «free», but we opted to go elsewhere after the first morning.

If I could give this hotel more than 5 stars I would. First thing I will say that throughout all my travels both in and out of the U.S. this has been by far the BEST customer service from ANY hotel I have ever stayed at. Everyone was extremely helpful and friendly, especially Angel. Even after checking in to my room, he followed up to make sure I was happy with my room and to make sure I didn’t need anything. He went out of his way to guide me on where to go and how to get there. I hope if the hotel management/​owners are reading this review, they make sure that he is being compensated fairly since he is really a gem to your hotel!
The hotel is very well located. It’s close to the bus stop, bars, restaurants. Room was very clean and cozy, and has a Keurig coffee maker. Not a fancy place but very well taken care of and clean. The pool looked gorgeous, such a shame it was too cold this time of year to go in. One thing I would improve is the speed of the elevator since it was extremely slow. The hotel includes free wifi, and continental breakfast. Continental breakfast is served at a restaurant adjacent to the hotel, buffet style. Decent spread, pretty typical of a continental breakfast. Hey it’s free so it’s a plus! I found it amusing that the hard boiled eggs are served with the shell still on them. Lol why wouldn’t they peal them before serving it? I guess this is an improvement for the actual restaurant not hotel.
Whenever I’m back in San Francisco I will not even hesitate to book this hotel! I highly recommend! Thank you to all the staff for such a great experience!

I’m usually rarely a negative person and try to look at the positive in every situation but let me start off by saying this place is a total TOILET!
Conjoining rooms with paper thin walls and doors. I had some snot nose kid yanking and jiggling the door handle between rooms at midnight. Then someone dry heaving in the halls sounding like they’re going to puke. The blinds were paper thin and had a bright light outside our room.
The dumpy restaurant attached to the hotel tasted like they were serving chinchilla or dog meat. This was absolutely the worst hotel experience I’ve ever had… This place isn’t even a hotel it’s a MOTEL! I was over charged on
paying almost $ 700 for 2 nights after tons of anonymous fees. How crazy is that? This place shouldn’t be allowed to charge over $ 75 a night.
Please let me tell you DO NOT STAY HERE! Find another place for the same price that’s ten times as nice. You will regret your trip.

I was so, so impressed with this hotel for the price and super convenient location!
Our room was very spacious, and had a fantastic view of the bridge.
Breakfast was included in the rate, which is RARE for an independent hotel in a city like San Francisco!
They have a nice, spacious lounge with comfortable spot to read or relax.
The pool area is SUPER cute, with lots and lots of great outdoor furniture to sit or lounge by the pool.
I will say the bed was extra firm — too firm for my husband — but you can’t please everyone… It was perfect for me! Lots of nice extra thick fluffy pillows. And the towels were GREAT! Huge, high quality thick towels like you’d expect at a much more expensive property. Also, I loved that they didn’t do individual sized toiletries — saving so, so much plastic and waste! They do dispensers in the shower like you might find at a nice health club locker room.
Lastly, the staff was super friendly and polite. I was really so impressed. An outstanding value and a great place to stay!

This place is fantastic, though I’m a little biased given that my brother lives right on Filbert and Van Ness so the location could not have been more convenient. But, in general, this area is a great neighborhood, and so reason enough to stay here even if you don’t have a sibling less than a block away. We chose this place for the location and the great price through
–at only $ 200 a night, the best deal we could find for something of this caliber in San Francisco.
Our room was two double beds on the inside of the hotel looking out over the beautiful courtyard and pool. The room was clean and quite spacious, and we had an incredibly easy check in process even though we arrived well after midnight on a weeknight. Overall, highly recommend this place. We also took advantage of the on-​site, secured parking which was really nice after getting in so late to not have to look for street parking.

In town for work and we found this unique place in the heart of downtown. We received a warm and personal check in from the front desk staff. The rooms are small but functional. With the cool temps in town it took me several hours to realize my room doesn’t have air conditioning. Breakfast is served in the Chinese restaurant that is attached to the property, they had your standard hotel breakfast Buffett with waffles, fruit and assorted pastries. Very convenient location within walking distance to the fisherman’s wharf and AT&T T park.

Full disclosure: I’ve never stayed at this dumpy hotel. Until today, this place had been little more than the butt of a running joke between me and my wife as we walk home from work (e.g., «did you notice that the Da Vinci Villa just opened a Mexican restaurant but the restaurant’s sign is still an Italian flag… maybe they didn’t realize they are different.»).
Anyhow, today I was at the dim sum restaurant that is connected to this hotel (which is pretty good and seemingly independently operated). I was pushing my one year old son out of the restaurant in a stroller and was by myself, so I used a handicapped elevator to transport us to street-​level (the front of the hotel and restaurant are about 8 stairs above street-​level and there are no ramps).
When I was about 20 seconds into my 10 foot descent (less than halfway on this extremely slow elevator), an employee of the Da Vinci Villa came running outside, leaned over the top of the elevator, and said «next time you can’t use the elevator since since you’re not handicapped… that’s why the sign says *handicapped*…you’re not handicapped, are you sir?» As we slowly continued our journey to the street, I stared back at this power trip in disbelief. I asked him how I should get my son down to the street by myself and he said that I should have asked someone to help me carry the stroller down the stairs.
Honestly, if he would have been nice about this I wouldn’t have thought twice about the interaction. Clearly it’s ridiculous to have a rule that prevents parents from safely transporting their babies down large drops and forces them to carry a stroller up/​down stairs, but if this is a law perhaps his hands are tied. However, it was completely ludicrous to me that this guy would get in my face and condescendingly question my ability to read/​walk when it was plainly obvious that I was just trying to safely lower my son away from his shabby establishment.
Summary — stay here if you want to be belittled by a man working the front desk at a motel with a cheesy, poorly executed Italian theme.

This place has the WORST customer service I have ever experienced.
When I showed up to check in, the manager (who was extremely rude to begin with) told me that my reservation had actually been 4 days earlier and I «was a no show.» I understand that mistakes are made sometimes but he did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to help me out. I had been traveling all day and arrived to the city late at night. They apparently had no open rooms so I was forced to scramble to find another hotel.
I was extremely disappointed at how easy it was for the manager to dismiss me so rudely without so much as an apology.
Oh and here’s the kicker… he refused to refund the price of the room that I didn’t stay in because it’s «hotel policy.»
Beware of this place… and don’t be surprised if you’re treated horribly by the manager. If I could give them –5 stars I would.

Stayed here for two nights. The room was very spacious. The bathroom was nice and very spacious too. A lot of room to place whatever. Pet friendly that was nice. There is a pool. We stayed on the first floor which he pool was on. There was no refrigerator in the room which I didn’t care for that as I bring my own food and beverages. Wanted to add there is parking for the hotel but I believe you pay each day for the parking which is included total price when booking the hotel if need a parking spot

Stayed here 8÷1÷15 hrough 8÷4÷15. Reviews are very off-​putting; this place is much nicer than everyone leads to believe. They must be expecting a 5-​star place… I did not feel like it was old, dirty, or in a bad part of town at all. Very well-​kept. No smells. Only 1.5 mile walk (a few hills, depending on the path you take) to the dock for the Alcatraz tour and Pier 39/Fisherman’s Wharf, and about half a mile (no hills) to Ghirardelli Square. Even had a yummy pizza joint (Extreme Pizza) deliver to us in the lobby without a hitch.
Given 5 stars for the sheer awesomeness of the clerk who checked us in. Parking is $ 30 per night (basically average in the city) but he showed us a city parking spot on the street that was open that had free parking on Saturday after 7pm and all day Sunday, which saved us $ 60 before we even got our room key. Continental breakfast was decent; much better than packaged pastries. A little crowded, but what do you expect for a free meal? Food included breads with jams and peanut butter, bagels and cream cheese, danishes, eggs, fresh fruit, hot and cold cereals, coffee, juice, tea, and belgian waffles.
Many people complain that the a/​c is loud… Um unless you are sleeping with your ear against it, it’s not loud at all. Was actually perfect white noise for me since I always sleep with a fan on at home too. I have stayed at other hotels wih rackety a/c’s that kept me awake all night, and this one barely purred. Wasn’t any louder than my house table fan on high speed. Our room also had a ceiling fan so air circulation was superb. Room also has its own digital safe.
Bathroom was nice. No tub, only a shower, but very nice glass sliding doors and the towels were actually pretty soft. Also had a dispenser in the shower that supplied shampoo, conditioner, and body wash, which was way better than any of those teeny tiny complimentary ones you get at other places, and they smelled awesome! I actually had enough soap to take a normal shower and enough shampoo to wash my hair. Newer flat screen LG TV, which allowed me to hook up my portable DVD player for my toddler. Pillows super comfortable. Free wifi in the rooms (with good speed; didn’t even have a problem with FaceTime), despite Hotwire saying wifi was only in the lobby. Lobby also has iPads for guest useage.
I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend this place, and whenever my hubby and I make the drive up to the bay again, this will be where we stay. Probably the best quality you can get for the price (can’t beat less than $ 250 per night and only be a mile from the Wharf, and less than a mile from Ghiradelli Square, with free hot breakfast, and free wifi). Thanks a million, Da Vinci Villa!!!

VERY generic, and the most uncomfortable hotel. The rooms had extremely thin walls which had neighbors banging on the walls for the volume of the tv. The staff was not accommodating and unfriendly. Breakfast that was offered was simply an arrangement of bread only, and of poor quality. Over crowded and under staffed. Way too expensive for what you received. In conclusion would never stay here again and would not recommend it to my worst enemy. Hope this steers everyone away from this giant let down of an establishment.

This place is in a good location with many shops and places to dine within walking distance. Also the famous Section of Lombard street is just a few blocks away.
The hotel, very clean with modern rooms that have been recently updated and a pool. There is a DimSum restaurant adjacent to the hotel that serves a continental breakfast for the hotel but there is no kitchen so room service snobs this place is not for you.
The staff, very friendly and helpful! Everyone I have meet was not just polite but really seemed to enjoy their jobs.
The price, very affordable.

I must admit that when I booked this hotel I was pretty bummed and a bit concerned about the hotel that I blindly paid for using Priceline’s Name Your Own Price tool. I was concerned because I read the reviews on Unilocal and I could not turn back now, the reservation was nonrefundable. What was done, was done and we (hubby and I) were going to go with the flow and try to enjoy our trip to SF.
When we arrived the front desk staff were so sweet, Angel was very quick but informative, and very welcoming. When we got to our room we noticed that we we had two queen beds (or doubles?) and we preferred one king bed since we were childless this weekend. My husband called the front desk and asked to be moved, Angel was unable to accommodate us because he said that our rate was the lowest he has seen and the hotel is too full to change rooms. We were fine with it since we seemed to have gotten a gonga of a deal.
The rooms was very basic, but I closely inspected the mattresses (for bedbugs) and the room for cleanliness, both were great. There is a new flatscreen tv, Keurig coffee maker, and our room had two safes. The bathroom was small but clean and the water pressure was better then other hotels I have stayed in. The beds were comfy, the pillows were even better, I slept like a baby each night.
They offer free continental breakfast in the Dim-​sum restaurant that is on the premises and was pretty standard with bagels, danishes, hard boiled eggs, fruit, cereal, waffles, coffee. I thought this was a nice touch since most places that we stay at rarely include anything for free.
Parking was $ 30 per night, pretty fair for San Fran. The elevator was a bit old and slow so we opted for the stairs instead. The location was great and our room even had a distant view of the Golden Gate Bridge.
Overall, this is a great place to stay if you are on a budget or would like to spend your money exploring the city. I can not rave enough about the friendliness of the staff. Each time we entered the lobby we were kindly greeted and they offered valuable advise for getting around the city.

The best things my husband and I can say for this place is the staff were very friendly and helpful, the bed was comfortable, and we could see The Golden Gate Bridge from our room. The room was clean but it smelled a little. The room had a portable air conditioner installed, which kept the room cool for us but it was noisy, which explains the provided ear plugs in the bedside table. The internet calls this a «no frills» room, which is accurate. The bathroom was functional but, after getting sore from walking all day, I sure wished there was a tub in the bathroom to have a hot bath. The bathroom is tiny with just enough room for a small stand-​up shower and no counter space for personal things.
We received vouchers for the extensive continental breakfast in the hotel’s restaurant, but that was mostly a carb fest with no hot breakfast offered other than warm hard boiled eggs and waffles. We ate there one of the four mornings we were there and went to Peter Ds for breakfast the rest of the time (recommended!). Dinner in the restaurant was good, though, if you like dim sum!
Location wise, we were within walking distance of Ghirardelli Square, and the bus system was right there and stopped frequently at the nearest corner, even on Sundays, so lots of transportation available if you don’t want to drive.

Great stay. Beautiful room (the family suite) for our girls getaway weekend of 5 adult women. Hard to find 1 room to accommodate all of us and 3 queen beds is perfect.
It was a birthday celebration and I informed upon reservation and we were pleased to see a card, fruit, chocolates & a bottle of wine in arrival. Very nice!
Never did make it down for breakfast so no thoughts on that.
Normally quiet but they seem to be doing some upgrades so at times it got loud with «banging».
Overall, great experience & will be back!

Ich war überrascht über die vielen schlechten Bewertungen hier. Wir haben um 20 Uhr eingecheckt, das parken mit dem Auto war im Hotel absolut problemlos möglich, es hatte viele freie Parkplätze (teuer 30 Dollar/​Nacht ist für SF aber normal). Wir hatten eine King Suite im 5. Stock. Die Größe war völlig ausreichend, wir hatten ein großes Bett und das Bad war auch gut. Das Fenster im Zimmer ließ sich problemlos öffnen und der Deckenventilator schaffte eine angenehme Temperatur (zumindest für September vollkommend ausreichend). Das Frühstück ist für amerikanische Verhältnisse umfangreich (für europäische ok). Es ist sauber und das Personal am Empfang sehr hilfsbereit und dazu kommt eine super Lage.

Bom hotel mas o seu preço não é baixo. Muito bem localizado próximo a restaurantes para se comer à noite, por ex. Fica a uns 10 min de ônibus do Fishrman Warf. Na Van Ness Street a sua frente passam várias outras linhas para outros destinos. Bom café da manhã. O quarto não é grande mas é bem limpo. Cama excelente. Wifi gratuíto de alta velocidade. A diária da garagem custa 10 dólares, cara ! Mas não precisa reservar com antecedência. Bom hotel principalmente para quem não está de carro. É seguro andar em torno do hotel mesmo à noite.
