CPMC – Professional Building and Parking Garage

Terrible experience in the ER! There were 2 homeless people ahead of me, or so I thought. In reality they were trying to get warm and had been there all night and the nurse as well as the social worker and «security» were more concerned with getting the 2 of them out of there than anything else. One of them clearly couldn’t walk. Because it was 5am and I had fallen asleep in the waiting room (gasp the nerve!) the «security» guard yelled at me to straighten my chair in the proper direction. He thought I was homeless too! I woke up and said «what?» To which he responded «the chairs all should be facing the TV» I told him all I did was sit in it as it was turned the wrong way when I got there. Thats pretty much the medical treatment I received from this «Emergency Room» I felt like I was in an extreme reality show desperate for ratings instead of needing a tetanus shot from extreme pain through multiple cuts in my leg after falling on a rusted sharp balcony decoration and was kept waiting over an hour after it took one social worker, 2 nurses and one «security» guard and one driver (that’s 5 employees) to get the two homeless people out when there was clearly no one else in ER other than me. Shift change brought 2 new clerks working the check in desk who did nothing but talk about what the hospital on Parnassus does. I got frustrated and called St. Francis ER where I was originally going to go and they said they weren’t crazy busy. I told the Betty check in clerks to let the nurse know I was going to go to St. Francis. She’s probably still trying to talk the homeless lady that couldn’t walk to leave the premises through their private escorted car they were supplying. Pity. And I even have medical insurance!
Last time I went to their ER the doctor barely even caught me in his eyesight when I had a staph infection that needed treatment.
Second time is not the charm and this hospital certainly missed charm school. Save your time, energy, and health care and go elsewhere to get proper care.
Buh bye CPMC. I hope I get a questionnaire in thesis inquiring on my satisfaction like I did when Doctor see nothing barely glanced at me. This place is just full of bad attitude not patient care! Their ER stands for slamming the brakes on to a complete stop and turning around full speed ahead to a real Emergency Room. What a shame. Shame on them.

Sure it’s $ 30/​day but that beats a parking ticket
I come to San Francisco often to visit friends and family. I’m often here on a weekday where the street has a 2 hour limit. Rather than wasting my day moving my car about, The CPMC Professional Building and Parking Garage offers a safe and reasonable alternative.
Enter off Clay and make your rounds being mindful that many are reserved for staff and tend to get pretty tight. Please don’t park like an A Hole and get it straight. It will make it easier for your fellow parkers. I just go to the roof where there is usually an end space to help protect from door dings. But if you’re concerned about your car getting a scratch, you’re in the wrong town. Head out to the sticks.
Take your ticket with you and pay by credit card when you return. There are kiosks at each end of the ground floor. I’ll park here again and again.

Parking Garage 2100 Webster Street is underneath the Professional Building. although they close at 7pm, this is a self parking garage which is my preference. if you drive deeper (lowering into basement), there’s two guys wearing reflective vest ready to help for valet parking. Here you can choose a compact size parking spot or a regular size parking spot. overall, this facility maintains well — clean and clear signs. pay at exit in cashier kiosk. but still, keep you ticket or $ 30 MAX and drive slowly, always.

Truly horrific experiences in quality of care in oncology & patient experience in ICU:
Poor Quality of Care: My dad was being treated for advanced malignant melanoma and the doctor was extremely reluctant to treat him — until of course my dad suggested getting a second opinion. The doctor told my dad the only thing he needed to discuss was the expected date of his death. He also shamed my father with one of the treatment options by saying «That’s no way for a man to live». Both of which were totally inappropriate, insensitive, and irresponsible comments to ever say to a patient. As soon as my dad went to UCSF the doctors felt there were several treatment options available and wanted to start right away. I can only imagine the quality
Poor Patient Experience: While in surgery, the hospital lost my dad’s belongings (his cell phone, hearing aid, & eye glasses). As my dad is legally blind, these things are essential to his daily quality of life. Various hospital managers played hot-​potato with taking responsibility the first few days and then eventually admitted to losing his stuff. It took me approximately a week (and many messages) to even get a call back from the Patient Relations Manager who was supposedly in charge of the case. They are offering to pay for replacements if we send in receipts and fill out the paperwork — better than nothing but still an added hassle when you’re sick.
Recommendation: Go to UCSF if possible. Stay away from the oncology doctors here.

The nurses and staff here are friendly and helpful. Glad I chose this hospital. However, parking is a pain in the butt.

I used the lab here for blood work. The wait wasn’t bad at all. 12 vials of blood later, I almost passed out. The techs were really sweet and helped me lay down, gave me apple juice and took great care of me.

I have had great experiences at CPMC. Many of my Dr.‘s are housed in this building. I have had MRIs, X-​Rays, blood work, physicals and physical therapy at this location. There is parking be3low the building or across the street. It is worth parking there because the meter maids are fiercely looking to give you a ticket if you run out of time.

I’m extremely averse to hospitals, doctors, prescription drugs, and basically anything that involves lab coats, whitewashed walls and syringes. Seriously, I’m getting chills down my spine just thinking about seeing all those things in a typical hospital.
CPMC, however, is NOT a typical hospital. Whitewashed walls? Yes. Lab coats? Yes. Syringes and IV needles? Unfortunately, yes, EVERYWHERE. Yet in spite of all that, CPMC’s incredible staff managed to ease my preconceived anxieties and made me and my family feel almost at home during a very uncertain, extremely unnerving time for all of us.
This is a hard review for me to write since much of my experience with CPMC was so recent, but I had to give the staff here recognition. Amongst the anguish and dread that comes with any hospital experience in the intensive care unit, they managed to be extremely coolheaded, professional and… FRIENDLY. More than friendly, actually. The nurses and doctors were not only extremely accomodating of my Mom’s physical needs, but they were very sensitive to and understanding about all the emotional chaos she and the rest of us were experiencing. Everyone from the clerical staff to the oncologists were very patient with our onslaught of questions and never once rushed through their time with us. Mom didn’t even dread hospital food because as it turns out, their menu is quite ethnically diverse. (Not that she needed it; at least one of her sisters were by everyday with something they cooked for her. Ahh, God bless busybody Asian aunties.) Obviously everyone who works here was thoroughly trained on bedside manner and even more impressive — common sense.
I hope to not review many hospitals in the future (for obvious reasons) but I would be remiss to not to recognize the outstanding service that my family and I experienced at CPMC. In a devastating time for us, they really did take care of everything so that we could just focus on being there for Mom and for each other. I’m not sure how expensive it is to be treated here versus other hospitals, but when it comes to having the peace of mind knowing that your loved ones are in good hands, really… can you put a price tag on it?
It really saddens me to know that, mostly because of affordability, not everyone receives the same quality care that my family and I have received. CPMC is surely a good role model for how hospitals should run and how medical staff should treat their patients and their patients’ families, but the fact that it’s a role model usually means it’s more the exception than the rule, and it makes me all the more thankful that we were given exceptional care.
Keep up the great work, CPMC.

Unfortunately, I have had many occasions to visit this hospital visiting a patient. The parking can be challenging but the people who work there are fab!

My friend was dying of pain one Sunday evening because she had strep throat. We went to the ER so she could get medicine. We were in and out in 35 minutes and the staff was very friendly. Dr. Rooke and Will took great care of her.

my doctor (who shall remain nameless, mind you) was the worst doctor I’ve ever had. I was sick for five months with the flu and wanted to ask my doc what I could do about it. as soon as she set foot in the room, she had one hand on teh door knob, ready to make a quick exit. I hated that! when I told her it seemed kind of weird to be sick for so long, she brushed me off, mumbling about getting over the counter medication and how no prescription would help me. She said not to worry and said goodbye! I was like, wait, what just happened?
So a month later, and after being sick for 6 months, I start losing vision slightly. The next day, my jaw starts hurting so I think I have a toothache. I see Dr. Chiu at United Dental Group (see my review for them) and he told me that my x-​rays show that i have a sinus infection! He urged me to go the emergency room and there the docs told me I could have gone blind or suffered brain damage for an untreated flu virus! Damn you Dr. No Name!
one good thing though is that i changed doctors and have found the kindest doctor ever to roam the earth.

WOW! What an awesome hospital this place is. I went to go visit my friends baby and the place was just lovely and so quiet. Her room was nice and she was secluded and the doctors that belong to CPMC ROCK! They are so wonderful and they totally took care of my friends and there bright little Olivia. I was so impressed, it made you want to go back and see the baby again because the place was CLEAN and nice and no bum mies were hanging out front to make it depressing… NICE PLACE, if I have a baby in the city (ONE DAY) I am having it there for sure… and the coke machine took my dollar and the cleaning guy gave me to sodas for my troubles… what a place… seriously nice hospital for a city…
