Corazón Under the Dome

Only worth it if you’re already under the dome when the show starts.
So I literally just watched this thing 1 minute ago while waiting for a friend to get off work. I sat down on a comfy enough chair, saw them announcing this thing and decided to wait around for it to start.
My biggest problem is that the music and sound effects were WAY too quiet. I realize that they can’t blast it because its in a mall… but they could make it louder.
The light show itself had some cool moments. I feel like it would have been greatly enhanced with certain substances. The best part for me was the tribute to the 2010 World Series. Super short though, and no 2012. Why’s that?
So if you’re already here at 5 o’clock (or every half hour after that) then stick around for a kind of entertaining show. But it’s not worth your time if you’re elsewhere or have stuff to do.

It’s really not that big a deal, but if you happen to be sipping your bowl of cappuccino at the La Boulange and want to look up, it’s worthwhile… at least until you realize you spilled most of your cappuccino on your white shirt. Not like that would ever happen to me. Uh-​uh. However, I have to give credit to Obscura Digital for creating an animated 3-​D light-​and-​music show that takes full advantage of the detailed architecture of the Westfield dome while at least evoking the history of San Francisco (see photos). My perception is that it jumps back and forth in jagged little segments that make me think of an acid trip, most appropriate for the Haight-​Ashbury hippie sequence, probably less so for the Judy Garland female impersonator singing «San Francisco».
You can check off most of the happier milestones in the city’s past. The World Series is covered, so is the Gold Rush, World War II, Otis Redding, and the disco era. Of course it all ends with a strange curvature view of the Golden Gate Bridge as Tony Bennett warbles you know what. Personally I would have preferred a more straightforward timeline rather than being cajoled and deafened into sensory overload. What the entire presentation reminds me of is the Fremont Street Experience, the canopy multimedia spectacular in downtown Las Vegas. Corazón Under the Dome is not nearly as ambitious, just about five minutes long and repeated every half-​hour between 5 and 8PM during the week. It’s worth taking a look if you happen to be in the mall before they wrap it all up on September 3.

Corazon Under The Dome is on Level 4 of the Bloomingdale side Westfield Mall on Market/​Powell Bart Station.
The FREE light show is only about 10 min long starting at 5pm this Summer. Plays on the half hr.

Sun 5, 5:30, 6, 6:30
It shows SF things, Golden Gate Bridge, Beat generation, Tony Bennett famous song «I Left My Heart in SF», etc.
Overall, it was just ok. The Christmas light show 2011 was better.
