Coit Liquor

They have a really great selection of wines. Very happy with this place, they have a nice selection of french and italian wines. I love coming in here to browse and pick out a bottle or two to save up for rainy days.

Buying liquor here is almost as much fun as drinking it. I asked for a recommendation and the cashier called out Tim (AKA The Wine Guy). I told Tim I was going to a Night Brunch at a friend’s house and was looking for something to expand their horizons a bit. «Baby, you are singing the song of the gods.» He got a ladder and climbed up to rummage through the shelves before pulling down a couple of elaborate bottles that looked like they belonged in a vintage French painting depicting cats and ladies with parasols. He explained the proper context for consumption of each liquor; one an apéritif, the other a slim bottle of grappa. He even wrapped them in a bow and gift bag.

This place is AWESOME! The owner is very professional and will go the extra mile to get what I’m looking for. Love their wine selection; and if they don’t have what you’re looking for just ask! They also deliver FOR FREE to locals. Best place in the neighborhood for sure!

Really nice store that was close to my hotel on a recent vacation. I had looked all over the city for Russian River and after asking the guy working he grabbed a bottle of Pliny for me from the back. Helpful and easy going service.

I think it was much better when a bunch of Asian guys were running the cashier. A bunch of new guys are manning the front now. One time I got a suspicious look while I was using my debit. Customer service should always be there, after all, customers are the ones bringing them in the $$$$$$‘s. It’s much too pricey, I just took a walk outside and never came back. Back then the Asian guys were acting like white guys, now the guys are white.

Good service but overpriced alcohol. Bought a bottle of blue lable for $ 270 from here… The market price is around $ 150.

Can’t say enough good things. I’m from NJ and wanted to bring back a case of wine so I asked for some help picking out local bottles. The gentleman who helped me gave me 10 minutes of undivided attention, asking me my style preferences and really getting to know what I would enjoy. He then picked out the bottles and explained each one to me. Unsolicited, he asked if I wanted them to deliver the case to my hotel at no charge. Seriously, who does that? He was great, the selection was great, and the prices were reasonable. Even scored a bottle of Pliny the Elder and Blind Pig! I would give this place 6 stars if I could.

This is definitely one of the better liquor stores in the Russian Hill neighborhood. They stock a huge variety of hand picked wines at fairly reasonable prices and the staff is very knowledgeable about their inventory. Maybe wine isn’t your thing, this place also has some of the best craft brews available on the market, and it’s one of the few places that has a regular supply of Russian River beers. What I like most about this spot is their huge wall of liquor, they carry all the basics, but also stock some of the harder to find distilled alcohols like Rogue spirits and central America’s Flora De Cana. All in all, this is an excellent store, plenty of drinks to wet your whistle and plenty of cigars to mellow you out :)

This is such a convenient neighborhood wine store. Not only does the selection go from floor to ceiling, but I’m constantly seeing a new variety of reds, whites, and roses. The wine here is clearly hand-​picked and I can always find something to fit the occasion. You won’t find wine under $ 12.99 here, but like I’ve said in my past posts, this is SF. what do you expect?!
The store also offers a smaller variety of craft beers. The selection doesn’t vary too much, but this store clearly focuses on wine, so I’m okay with that.
Finally, the owner is very nice and always has my favorite ice cream, Talenti, on hand!

Went in for Pliny and had a great experience. The guys working there are helpful and friendly. Loved talking craft beer with them. Would recommend to anyone. And I scored some Pliny. Thanks, Coit Liquor!

Coit Liquor has been my go to place in the neighborhood to buy wine and beer. HOWEVER, I was recently severely overcharged for an imported 10-​year single malt whiskey. I should have done my research better… Their price was $ 20 more than online price and $ 40 more than the same version at Trader Joe’s!!! If I knew Trader Joe’s carried the same version, I would have gotten it there…

What a great find next to Washington Square Park. Decided to stop by here after dinner and enjoyed their collection. This is not your typical «run down» corner liquor store. The store is very clean and organized. They have a great collection of wine and whisky. Their beer selection isn’t as extensive, but you’ll still find some great microbrews (such as Russian River). This place is worth a visit if you’re around Washington Square Park.

This liquor store has pocket size liquor. I wanted some vodka. There were 4 sizes to choose from. I got just enough to pour into my cranberry juice and get a little buzz! The hubs and I decided to be a bit «street» and drink and walk around North Beach.
The store has a wide range of liquor– whiskey, wine, vodka. You name it they probably got it. You can also get typical liquor store items such as snacks, non alcoholic drinks and cigars just to name a few.
The worker that helped us was a nice fellow. He was new to the area but he tried his best to answer all of our touristy questions we had.

I come here to get San Pellegrino lemonade or orange sodas. They charge 50 cents if you buy with credit card and the purchase is less than $ 10.

Coit Liquor has lots of wines, some beers, cigars, ice cream, hard liquors. most offerings on the pricey, high end side.

Coit Liquor is back! They were temporarily closed for remodeling due to a fire and water damage from the upstairs apartments but are back again and better than ever! Go in and get a great bottle of your favorite wine or microbrew and say Welcome Back to Shadi!

Meh… maybe it was an off day in regards to deliveries, but I wasn’t too impressed with the bottles on hand.
I didn’t converse with the staff so I can’t speak to their beer knowledge or personalities.
Worth a stop if you are in front of the store. I wouldn’t make a special trip up here just for Coit though.
Rogue’s Public House is right around the corner.

They have plenty of Russian Rivers brews, including Pliny the Elder. The beer selection isn’t extensive, as they definitely put more stock in wine, but there’s still plenty of good stuff to be bought here, and they have a few snacks on hand too.

It might just be a corner store, but it has a few very interesting, lovely, hard to find beverages that are released in limited editions throughout the city. I stop by here whenever I’m in the North Beach area to see if they’re carrying one of my favourite beers from a Bay area brewery (yay Russian River!) We’ve picked up other drinks while here as well.
The prices are decent and the employees are very knowledgeable about the stock they have and when the rare items might be coming by.

After dinner with my beautiful co-​worker Misti Y, I decided to stop by Coit Liquor to grab a bottle of wine to enjoy at the hotel. A very friendly, and dare I say flamboyant, man helped me to pick out a bottle of red.
Me: Can you help me pick out a bottle of wine to drink with my boyfriend?
Magic Wine Fairy Man: Would you like something light, medium or full-​bodied?
Me: Hmmmm… full bodied.
Magic Wine Fairy Man: The wine or your boyfriend?
Both of us: Bawahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
(Poof — Two bottles of wine appear)

I asked the clerk for a wine stopper and paid for my items. Before hopping into a cab my Magic Wine Fairy Man (who I now believe to be my own personal Fairy Godfather) stopped me.
Magic Wine Fairy Man: He gave you the wrong type of stopper! That one was for champagne, here’s the right one. (Waves magic wand)
Is that not the best service or what?! Cinderella, eat your heart out!

Everything in this store seems a bit overpriced but the location near Washington Square Park cannot be beat. If everything were a bit less pricey, Coit would earn four stars from me! Coit Liquor sells wine, beer, and, of course, liquor. They’ll brown bag your tall glass beer for you too so that you can enjoy it in the park on a nice day!
Funny, flattering conversation with one of the older employees today:
(We were standing in front of the refrigerated white wines)
Him: What type of wine are you looking for? Dry or sweet?
Us: Dry
Him: Citrusy?
Us: (didn’t really need his help) Sure?
Him: I want the wine to be perfect!
Us: What about that sauvingnon blanc? (pointing)
Him: Yes, that one is perfect! Perfect just like you girls!
So we giggled awkwardly and bought the wine… and it was pretty good!
