I specialize in organizing: homes, offices, garages, closets, setting up filing systems, etc. I’m especially good at helping you eliminate unneeded stuff, and doing so in a sustainable way, by getting that stuff into the hands of people who can use it, rather than contributing to landfill.

History

Established in 2000.

In 2000, I helped an ex-​girlfriend organize her closets. Not only did it make a big difference in her life, and totally change the feel of her whole apartment, but we also had a lot of fun doing it. At one point, she said to me «you know, you should do this!» I started out working with friends, until eventually it grew into a full-​time business, and I let go of my previous job in the software industry.

Andy Hartman is the founder of Clutter Free Organizing Services. After nine years of seeing hundreds of clients, he has developed a warm, non-​judgmental, heart-​centered approach to organizing. His experience has given him a lot of clarity about why people are disorganized and the challenges they face in the organizing process. He can also address your company or group with customized presentations on organizing.

And also is the creator and producer of «The Heart of Organizing,» a blog and podcast. Each installment discusses a different aspect of getting organized.

Clutter Free Organizing Services were extremely helpful in helping us with organizing our garage and giving away all the extra stuff. Andy made it extremely easy to put aside things we did not need and organize the things we wanted to keep. I thought it would take days to organize everything in the garage, but surprisingly it only took one day!
It was very helpful to have a third party help in prioritizing and opening up the space!
I would definitely work with Clutter Free Organizing Services in the future! I strongly recommend them!

I moved in to my boyfriend’s small studio apt (like 500sq ft) and we realized we did not have enough room. I have very little stuff in the apt and he has way too much stuff, ranging from all his skiing and snowboarding gear to his high school frisbee from grad night, plus we have a dog. This was a very stressful situation.
It was really nice to have a person like Kristian to come in to our space and help us communicate, prioritize, organize, buy some small furniture and utilize the space to the maximum. We categorized the space by use and need, then put items in piles and then we finally made a home for each item. In the end result we can now have people stop by and not be totally embarrassed by our tiny space.
We have defiantly improved our quality of life. Rent in SF has gone up in the last few months and we can no longer afford to move into a larger place at the moment. Without the help of Clutter Free Organizing Services I am not sure we would have survived for this long! Now if we could both work on forcing ourselves to be neater. :)

Our second bedroom was a place of catastrophe before we worked with Kris. The task of bringing order to a room that doubles as a storage area/​office/​garage seemed daunting until Kris arrived. He epitomized professionalism, entering the space, taking a thorough survey of what we had to work with and immediately forming a plan of attack. He proposed multiple creative solutions for the furniture configurations in our tiny closet and the room itself, maximizing our limited space. He also offered a range of suggestions for shelving units and storage products to fit our needs His experience with other clients was evident when he made suggestions for things we wouldn’t have thought of otherwise.
By the time we were done working, the room was full of neatly labeled bins, tall shelves, and more floor space. If you have an area that needs an overhaul, Kris can work some magic with your space. We highly recommend Clutter Free Organizing Services.

I’ve known Kris for years, but I have to admit, I was surprised by how much his organizing skills have helped me. I am honestly a poster child for disorganization and have been my whole life, especially in my personal space and with respect to my overflowing closets and dressers. I have never found a system that worked in the long-​term. A few months ago Kris made the impossible happen. We took my closet and clothes trunk and using containers I already had, found a place for all of my clothes, and to my great surprise I can still see the floor of my closet to this day and I know where everything can be found! It is honestly magical to me.
Since then we have also organized my kitchen, and that system remains in working order as well, we are in the process of an organized filing system to combat my chronic piles of mail and other paper work. I will be organized beyond my dreams before I know it!
What surprises me is that organizing seems to be governed by the simplest principles and yet without the help of a professional organizer of Kris’s caliber I would still remain hopelessly unorganized.

Kristian was great! I don’t know how my girlfriend found him, but he came out to our place on the peninsula (punctually), and was ready and full of great ideas! This was just a consultation and we made a plan.
The next time he came we were ready to work! He came stocked with boxes, labels, and marking pens… we were going to de-​clutter and consolidate the endless amounts of photography, prints, and frames I had hidden away.
We got right to work, and before you know it there was piles of stuff everywhere — He was very inquisitive — needing to know what went with what so nothing got lost. This is very important to me since the location of my client’s negatives were in question! He had great recommendations on what to do with the tings I was going to get rid of… some to goodwill, some to an artist’s collective, and some just trash.
Then it happened. I was moving a big picture that had a crack in the glass and all of a sudden the glass slid out and sliced a big gash in my leg! Kristian kept his cool and was quick to help me tend to my wound! He helped me find a local emergency room, and then drove me there in my car since I didn’t want to bleed in his. He waited for me to get all patched up, and drove me home.
We didn’t work any more that day, but we did come up with a plan for the next session.
