Between here and New May Wah, these are the two best produce markets on the block. Everything here is usually very fresh and best of all very inexpensive. Now don’t go looking for organic anything around this place, but for kitchen staples it definitely serves its purpose. Everyone here is usually very nice and helpful. The stuff in the fridge is usually fresh too. But I wouldn’t buy any of their dry staples. As you may see the amount of dust on the pasta boxes is not promising. But for fruits and veges at a great price, this is your one stop shop on Clement. Remember, cash only at this place. But the BofA is just across the street.

More like 3.3 stars. Simple local produce shop that I picked up some fresh basil leaves and mint leaves, some 70% Spanish Cocoa chocolates(only $ 2.99 each for 3.5 oz), and some very pretty good looking asparagus and crumpets. Fast and nice service too. Sometimes I like support the smaller shops than the big supermarket style shops.

I’m loyal to Clement Produce. The people working there are nice(sweetest cashiers in the neighborhood and super friendly stock guys) and the prices are good. Over the past few years though, the place has gone down hill a bit. Empty produce bins, flies, mushy veggies. It’s not all the time, just some times, but it’s sad. That said, it is rare I go in without leaving with something. Good selection of dried and fresh spices, some cheeses, lots of eggs and usually gigantic tubs of tomatoes or onions. There is one cashier who always tries to sell customers whatever fruit is sitting on the counter. It’s hard to say no when someone is offering you fresh lychees, but usually I manage to turn her down.

This used to be my go-to greengrocer. Decent produce at decent prices. I don’t know if someone else is running it now, but in the last 6 months or so, something has changed. The prices have gone up – more than a buck a pound for brussels sprouts that are 75¢ a pound elsewhere? The variety has dwindled — only Fuji apples, and no other types, at the peak of apple season? And the entire back of the store is empty, while the shelves in the middle seem sparser every time I visit. But I kept going back because they always seemed to have what I needed. This afternoon, though, I grabbed a pack of bacon there to use tomorrow. I just now looked at it and the use-by date is November 12. Today is December 23. Need I say more? Okay, I will: Sorry, Clement Produce, you just lost my business.

All I can say is my mom shops here a lot, since she’s usually too tired or fatigued to travel anywhere else. For the most part it’s close and convenient, it’s inexpensive and you’ll always bring home a lot more for less than anywhere else. As far as quality, I’m not so sure. It’s definitely not organic and I’m not sure who their supplier is. But I supposed it’s better to pay less for the same produce you would find at say you’re local Safeway which over prices everything.

It’s cheap(produce is riper than their more expensive counterparts) and I can get Bonne Maman jam for $ 3.59 whereas I’ll pay about $ 1 more at the grocery stores. They only take cash so hit the ATM before stopping by. They even have crumpets! I love my neighborhood.

I’m so happy this is just two blocks from home. It doesn’t kill my wallet and I can get the items my chiro insists I should eat.

This is where I buy all my produce. They always have the best tomatoes on Clement St. as well as the occassional great deal on avocados.
