CITIPETS is a San Francisco family-owned pet supply store (dogs, cats, birds and small animals) founded in 2005. The betterment of your best friend’s health, nutrition and happiness is our passion. We have two locations (our store in West Portal and our boarding/daycare facility in Silver Terrace) offering the finest in food, supplements, treats, toys and supplies for your dog. We work very closely with our vendors to ensure that we carry only the highest quality raw, canned, and dry food as well as all the fun and fashionable accessories your best friend could possibly need. CITIPETS’ Playground, our innovative boarding/daycare facility is kennel-free and has staff on-site 247. We also offer dog training (From puppies and general obedience, to behavioral issues. Rescues a specialty!) and exercising. Our service areas cover the city. With over 25 years professional experience caring for, and training dogs, our family is here 247 to help you care for your family.

History

Established in 2005.

The CITIPETS story starts with Barbara Werger, a horse and dog breeder and trainer. Her daughter Al has continued and expanded her mother’s passion for animals and their welfare by starting CITIPETS, a store which specializes in pet health, nutrition, and happiness, and the CITIPETS services: boarding and daycare at the CITIPETS’ Playground facility, dog exercising and training, and home-set up. The family aspect has continued when Al’s partner, Galen, joined the company in 2013.

After dog walking and training for many years, Al opened the CITIPETS store in 2005, and the Playground was the natural expansion of the business in 2013. All of these aspects of CITIPETS have been praised and recommended by word-of-mouth, even before being listed on Yelp!

I have been working with dogs in San Francisco for the past thirteen years. My specialty is working with dogs that have aggression issues, rescue dogs, and dogs that have been abused. I also am a consultant on home set-up, and can help with leash training, park manners, potty training, and any number of basic training issues.

My philosophy centers around structure, calm consistency, good communication, (which means listening to your dog as well as asking them to listen to you) and of course lots of love. Reasonable expectations need to be set, and time needs to be put in to help your dog meet these expectations. Of course, there is no one way of training that will fit every dog. Each dog is an individual and training needs to be tailored to meet the needs of that specific dog.

To say I love my work is an understatement. I have worked tirelessly to help families and their dogs understand each other and work together as a team.
