Citibank

Absolutely the worst customer service of any bank I’ve ever dealt with. Moving my small business account to another bank. Other than a couple of Tellers, the rest of the crew should be fired. They consistently show indifference to my business.

I work at a small business in West Portal. I have been going to Citibank for small amounts of change for my register for years. Everyone there has always been sweet and welcoming. A manager told me once that it was their pleasure to help local businesses with change and that I could go there any time. Today I stopped by and was confronted by a woman who told me she was the new manager and that «there is a problem with you coming here for change because you don’t have an account here.» I explained but she told me not to come back unless I opened an account. She was rude but thanked me as I left. Thanks for what? For never coming back? Because that is what she asked of me. I am very dissapointed that she doesnt seem to understand that without local businesses there would be no business for her bank. I will go elsewhere for my change now and I certainly will never open an account at a bank that refuses to give a local business two roles of quarters for their register. Nice employees at Citibank, you will be missed. Citibank should reconsider bringing back the old manager who knew much better the value of community.

Just came back from depositing and withdrawing some money. Just had my bills thrown at me by the teller. This is how they treat premium accounts?

Though I’m not big on supporting large corporate like Citibank, I still need an acct to put my money in. I consider them as the least of all evil lol. My choice of where to go is the Citibank on West Portal. It’s small compare to many but the people there are friendly, smart, and have great personality. There’s definitely some positivity among the staff, and it makes me feel safe. Who know! Maybe their boss treats them better too.

It’s a good bank, clean, no bullet proof glass, and an inside ATM. The biggest problem is the turnover of the staff. As soon as I get to know someone they move on to another branch. I like having someone who know my name and my banking needs so I don’t have to explain everything when I go in for some business. It would be nice to build some trust in the people who are handling your money.

About 2 weeks ago I had to deal with a brand new experience at Citibank with my funds being placed on hold, something that has never happened to us during our time with them. BUT from that previous experience I learned that the loophole around that situation would; when making a larger ATM deposit make sure to place it into the account that has direct deposit attached to it to avoid holds.
Well… that’s not what happened.
My wife makes a 2 pay-​period deposit into the direct deposit account and what-​do-​you-​know there’s a hold. Great, it’s the Friday of thanksgiving weekend, we’ve got guest in from out-​of-​town and there’s a fricken hold on our funds.
I’m pissed but my wife doesn’t want me to make too much of a situation since we’ve got guest. I tell her to go check out the bookstore and stuff while I head inside the branch.
It’s the typical routine, I start with the teller and explain the situation, she tells me there’s nothing they can do and tries to sell me a line of credit. NO, that’s not my goal here so i ask for the manger. She heads out from behind the teller area and speaks to the manager who is in the middle of some sale.
About 5 minutes later I’m at her desk explaining the situation all over again, this includes how the previous branch manager told me depositing it into the account that has a direct deposit would prevent this from happening.
She tells me the guy is wrong and doesn’t know why he said that, she also then proceeds to tell me about an internal scoring system that Citibank has that figures out what their clientele is eligible for BUT it’s not to be confused with a Credit Score (are you saying WTF too? because I sure was). Well, part of this scores job, which by the way is readjusted monthly, shows the maximum amount a person can have available at the time of deposit. now this made me really annoyed, mostly because I was never notified of these changes, also each hold lasts for 4 business days which I find BS since I know for a fact checks haven’t needed to take that long to clear since the early 90’s. Both of these things I made clear to her. She then went on to tell me there wasn’t anything she could do on her side.
At this point I felt like I was getting blown off, mostly because the manager couldn’t explain why these things were done, only how they were. I went as far as questioning why aren’t customers notified of this scoring system and why are updates sent out since this is essentially a change in our contracts (picture not being notified of interest rate changes), she explained that the score came from multiple sources and therefore it’s «impossible» to give it out to all the clients, once again, we reach a statement that made no sense. The score is used on everything I do in Citibank yet they aren’t able to notify clients of the score?
This is about when my wife came in, and had the manager summarize that the only way we could avoid fees in the future was to go into the branch and have the teller confirm the funds available when making the deposit. I won’t deny, that pissed me off too since this defeats the whole purpose of ATM convenience but if this is how it’s going to be, I guess I’ll deal with it for now… until I switch to a credit union.

This is the best Citibank on this side of town! It’s clean & new, there isn’t any bulletproof glass, and the staff are all really nice and speak impeccable English. I’ll definitely be going out of my way to bank here from now on.

Definitely feel safe when I go to the ATM because it’s indoors with after hours access given only with a valid ATM card.
