I was happy to support a neighborhood doctor, especially one in the Mission that is bilingual, however the service was disappointing. The information he gave me about what my insurance would cover was incorrect, and although I paid for my co-​pay on the day of my visit, I received another bill for the co-​pay in the mail. If I was unorganized, I could have easily paid twice for the visit. I won’t be going back.

I can’t say enough about Dr. Chaparro and his abilities to perform painless surgery. I had a bunion on my left foot. I consulted with the head of podiatry at a hospital in San Mateo and a podiatric surgeon at Stanford — both of whom told me I could expect lots of pain, not being able to walk for months and prescribed sole inserts that were actually wrong. Then my husband had a blister caused by running and went to Dr. Chaparro, who took one look at my foot and said «I can fix that». I had my surgery on a Thursday, woke up feeling better than the 3 months prior and its been great ever since. The man knows what he’s doing and he’s right — no pain, EVER.

I interviewed 2 well-​known top podiatrists in Oakland and Stanford to see what my alternatives were for foot surgery. My friend recommended Dr. Al Chaparro, in the Mission, San Francisco. I respect her opinion, so decided to check him out.
At first I was dubious, as the office is in an older building and did not compare to the «suites» I was accustomed to. He really knows his stuff, and I am really really pleased with the care I received and the results.
The nurses and everyone at St. Lukes spoke highly of him which is also a good sign. An excellent surgeon who knows how to take care of people with a personal touch. Rare. HIghly recommended.-Deborah
