Specialties

Cary Lane is San Francisco’s only Sample Sale clothing store chain. It is a unique store that offers deals on designer apparel at up to 80% off the regular retail price for men and women. We specialize in samples and past season apparel from brands from all over the world! We also carry our private label men’s line, Cary LaScala, which is designed and manufactured locally in the city.

All items at Cary Lane are brand new and unused. We are not consignment and do not buy from the public. Our inventory is constantly changing and we put out new arrivals every week. Follow us on social media to see more specific items we have available.

History

Established in 2008.

Cary Lane originally opened in Noe Valley, San Francisco in 2008. We then moved the store to Hayes Valley in 2010 and expanded with our 2nd location in December 2012 at the Valencia Corridor area and 3rd location in May 2014 in the Inner Sunset.

Items are always around wholesale prices. We have a variety of apparel like jackets, tops, dresses, and bottoms to accessories like ties, hats, belts, jewelry, and shoes! We have many one of a kind pieces for men and women, so you’ll definitely be leaving with something special.

wonderful store full of unique and beautiful clothing for men and women. I’m a US size 14 and I was able to find a couple skirts that fit me!
It is one of those stores that you need to take at least 1 hr to go through. U can find medium and Large sizes but I does require some digging.
Sales people are helpful and not pushy.

Super awesome and friendly staff here. I have scored many great finds over the years of shopping at Cary Lane. Got a few great items today! My sister who lives in Brooklyn always makes a point to stop here when she’s in town. They also are my go-​to for great candles and jewelry. Can’t go wrong!

I love Cary Lane!
This store is the BEST if you want to find amazing unique clothes and love to try new things. I am a major fan of the shoe selection. That being said I would advise to inspect the items you buy thoroughly before purchasing. I was in a couple of weeks ago and bought these amazing glitter sneakers. Upon arriving home I realized they came with a punctured sole! All the way through the bottom and inside of the shoe. I have not been able to wear them yet and research on how to repair this type of hole has been a great hassle. So shop in confidence, but scrutinize every item you will buy. This is the only time this has happened to me, but it is still a major pain. U_​U

I love this place! Really great, unique, and high end looking pieces for very reasonable prices. I’ve shopped at all the locations, but the folks at Mission location are my favorite! They’re friendly and helpful, and have great customer service. Definitely recommend.

OMG! Someone mentioned this store to me a few years ago, but I never made it a point to come. My friend mentioned she was going, so I decided to tag along with her. What an amazing selection! The clothes are unique and really beautiful. It’s very designer looking and fashion forward and everything is new! Much easier for me to look through than a thrift store. There are candles and other goods that would make great gifts in here as well. I would love to come browse again.
The only downside was that the clothes run SMAAAAALL. I don’t think I fit into anything I tried on. :/

You just got done with Sunday brunch at ABV and you want to walk off that burger you just ate? how about some shopping to go with it?
Cary Lane has prime location being near the many eateries along 16th st. They boast designer stock at outlet prices, some from sample sales so carefully check your pick if you plan on returning it.
We browsed through some cute girly stuff, manly clothes, interesting footwear and funky jewelry. The staff are approachable and helpful — a breath of fresh air from the hipster confines of Valencia st.
Check in on Unilocal to get the extra 10% off.

This is such a unique store. Lots of fun pieces for a reasonable price. I was able to find a pretty amazing dress for a summer wedding and I’m pretty excited about that. Love that Unilocal check-​in gives an additional 10% off! Since its sample sale stuff, not all sizes are available and things can be a little too adventurous if you’re just looking for something classic.

Guess I always just assumed Cary Lane was some posh [read: pricey] boutique, but I actually read some Unilocal reviews and found out what it’s really all about. Amazing deals on fashionable clothes? Count me in!
All of the women’s clothes were arranged by color, and there was a wide selection of tops, bottoms, and dresses. There was a shoe section too but I didn’t check it out. An employee constantly tidied up the garments so that everything remained nice and neat. I picked up a work-​appropriate polka-​dotted shirt at a pleasing price so I was stoked.
You can save 10% off your purchase by using either the Unilocal check-​in offer or by paying cash. Sadly, you can’t combine the two offers (I asked!).

WTH, I have walked by Cary Lane so many times (well, maybe have ridden my bike past would be more appropriate) and never thought to go in since I assumed it was part of the gentrification wave of the Mission, but Cary Lane has some really good deals on stuff. I got some super bright orange cords here for $ 25 and they are apparently some fancy brand too so double win! You get 10% if you pay cash so bring your dollars with ya and spend your quarters after at Gestalt on some pinball with your savings :)

I was really impressed with this store. I walk by it going home from work and decided to stop in. I really like the assortment and the pricing is good too. There are a lot of unique looks and you have to spend some time finding what fits your style however you’ll have fun doing. The staff were friendly, educated me about the store and checked other stores for a size in a shirt that they didn’t have. I bought one jacket and am picking up the shirt I wanted at their Hayes Valley location. The staff is everything you would want for a great shopping experience!

I needed just one set of (clean) clothes thanks to a disaster of a flight situation and I didn’t want to spend a ton. Thank you Cary Lane for being the perfect solution!
I got a super, duper, soft pair of grey sweats for just $ 15 and two super comfy tees — everything for a mere $ 65. My only (and really not a big deal) gripe is that they don’t accept amex.
It’s probably a good thing my husband was with me, because I’m certain I would have done some serious damage in the store, if I had more time to shop!

I live in the neighborhood and stopped in to check out the clothing. Its all sample apparel.
The men’s selection isn’t as large as the women’s but If you want a different look and quality clothing. I highly recommend stopping by.

This is a great shop. I entered it the first time this past Sunday after probably passing by it over several months, not noticing it. They sell sample clothing as half the cost. From the description provided to me by the sales person, it is mostly samples from local artist/​vendors.
I was excited to shop and find things that I liked. Though the sizing of some of the items is not indicated on the piece, it can be hit or miss. I did like a purple polo shirt I found, but it looked like a large than medium due to the long short sleeves on me.
I did find a light rain coat that was cool, which I ended up purchasing. Shhhh. Don’t tell my honey about this.
I cannot wait to my next return visit.

This is a super indie clothing boutique out in the Mission district. I got attracted to this store for their slogan — outlet prices? I’m totally down!
The clothing here tends to have a lot of colors and patterns. This is not the store for you if you like all black/​white or minimalist pieces! Think Free People, Anthropologie?
This store carries a lot of brands that I am not familiar with — Pink Martini being one of them. I did see a few Costa Blanca and Collective Concepts.
In the back there was a sales section although I was a bit confused because a lot of the items there weren’t marked as sale, whereas some of the items on the main floor were sale (but didn’t have an overt sign). Hm. Probably my biggest gripe but it shouldn’t stop you from taking a peek.
The prices were not rock bottom ($ 20 and below) but most items were under $ 60 or so.

After moving back from SoCal, I’ve really lost quite a bit of fashion motivation. It seems like people in SF simply prefer comfort over fashion. Well, if you’re like me, then you must pay Cary Lane a visit. I promise that it’ll help restore your faith in style! Not only are the clothes very LA-​stylish but the staff there are fashionable as well.
While I sometimes have a hard time fitting into some sample sales sizes, I always find amazing jewelry pieces and shoes. Cute boutique with unique styles at sample sale cost minus the hurricane mess. How can you possible beat that?

The joys when you discover a hidden gem. The kind where your not even sure if you wanna tell your friends bc u wanna keep the goodies to yourself. Hahaha, but ppl need to know about Cary Lane!!!
Amazing brand name items for redic prices. My fave are the gorg jewelry. Ive gotten quite a few of the «ohhhh where’d u get that.» Best part, no one else will have anything like it because it’s all sample pieces.
Did I mention the prices? Super discounted, which just means more things you can get!
I wish they had an LA location so I don’t have to wait till my visits to the bay to stop in here.

I love this little boutique that’s tucked away a few blocks from the Mission BART. You may not like it yourself, unless you’re able to fit the sample sizes which are S (4 – 6) or shoe sizes that are a size 6 but I’ve been fortunate enough aside from my bigger bottom half to fit thier A-​line dresses, shirts and shoes.
The people that work here are usually friendly and helpful. I love that they carry sample pieces so you don’t have to worry about someone else having the same dress as they never have more than 1 – 2 pieces of a certain item. The prices are extremely reasonable for the better quality in clothing and are a deal at nearly about $ 45 for a dress that once cost $ 100 or more.
This place is definitely a gem and I only wish they will start carrying their clothes on the online site which currently only offers jewelry.
