Carmichael Salon

I started going to Russell about two years ago at the recommendation of my colorist out in Boston. I am insanely picky about my hair color and embarrased to admit it but put more thought into my hair colorist than my dentist! Russell and the team at Carmichael salon are amazing!
Also if you’re looking to get your haircut, Tania is my girl! She really knows her stuff and always makes sure to listen to what you want.
Everyone at Carmichael is so nice and down to earth. It’s not pretentious at all which I absolutely love. Thanks for always doing a fabolous job Russell and Tania!

I had an appointment for a haircut with Tania Aragon. I am so happy with the haircut that I have told all my clients at work even. She is very experienced and knowledgeable and it was the best hair appointment experience that I’ve had in a long time!!! Will come back real soon again!

I’ve been getting my hair cut by William for about a year, and I am always extremely happy with how my cuts turn out. I no longer get anxiety about getting my hair cut or switching styles, since William really listens to the nuances of what you like and don’t like. My appointments always start on time also, and my blowouts last a long time.
The only downside I can think of is that the cuts are a bit pricey, but I think it’s worth it to guarantee a haircut you know you’ll love.

The only place to get your your hair done in the city. I drive in from the East Bay to patronize this amazing place.

I got my hair done today by Tania and I kind of had a clue what I wanted, kind of had about 6 different pictures, and really didn’t want my hair to be damaged b/​c it’s short and I want to grow it out. I couldn’t be more pleased. I got what I didn’t even know I wanted and my hair looks great. I would post pictures but it just rained and it’s not cute
Tania also deep conditioned my hair and gave me an amazing head massage. She was super cool and attentive and friendly. The color of my hair normally comes out real brassy and red toned because that’s just how my hair is, but it didn’t this time. It’s a really gorgeous medium dark to light blond and it doesn’t look dehydrated or dry by any means. I got compliments all night at work and to top off my great experience she taught me how to style it in a way that I’ve been trying to do and haven’t been able to accomplish. Thanks Ashley (beautiful receptionist) for the appointment/​recommending me to Tania/​bringing me to Carmichael!

This is a late review but I wanted to rave about Dimitrios!
Love this fancy, upscale salon right in the heart of Union Square across from Neiman Marcus. (You are literally staring at it through the pretty window)
They have a really cool color bar where they perform color and store products. Nice décor, they have great hair products and staff is very knowledgable on what both Redken and Shu Uemura products fit your hair needs. Dimitrios listened to what I was looking for and delivered! Super sweetheart I will visit him again!

OH MY GOSH AMAZING.
My first time in here was two weeks ago to get an A-​line bob. The customer service was phenomenal and the environment is so warm and inviting. Everyone is so kind. My appointment was with Tania whom I had never met before. Before she even touched my hair she sat down and asked questions about the haircut I was looking for. The whole experience was great. She took plenty of time to make sure it was perfect and felt very taken care of.
Flash forward to when I get home, and the style falls out after a day of work and I realized that the haircut wasn’t exactly what I was looking for, which was my fault because I didn’t explain it properly. I reached out to them and they asked me to come back in free of charge. They set up an apt right away. Going back this time, they were just as warm and friendly as before. Tania asked a few more questions so that we could make sure we were on the same page and my hair turned out EXACTLY as I wanted. Their customer service is off the charts, even when I wasn’t a paying customer. I’ve been in the hospitality industry 10 years and this is one of the most customer focused businesses I’ve ever been to or worked at– and that includes restaurants, bars, spas, hotels. They’re the absolute best and Tania is my new go-​to stylist.
Oh-​they have this amazingly fun color bar also. It’s literally a bar and they mix hair coloring in front of you. It’s super fun, the staff is well educated and I have so much trust in this company and their knowledge of hair.

I’ve been seeing William for my cuts and he’s great. A perfect long layered cut every time and he’s such a joy to chat with! I’ve been trying to grow my hair out and he’s really careful when trimming off the dead ends to ensure I’m not losing too much length. The salon is clean and well lit and also in a very convenient location right by union square so I can easily walk or muni there.
I do feel a little pressured to purchase products sometimes. It’s very apparent that I’m low maintenance when it comes hair so I feel awkward declining when he’s already pulled the bottles from the shelf. Not a big deal and I’ll still return for all my future cuts.

I wanted to jump on the long angled bob train but got somewhat of a train wreck of a haircut instead from dimitrios. He didn’t seem that comfortable cutting the angle… and the haircut turned out slightly uneven when unstyled (which unfortunately is my lazy norm). His layers seem to add to the unevenness/​choppiness. Aside from the haircut, the guy was friendly and personable and the salon seemed aight.
I paid with a groupon/​gilt city/​one of those deal things which came with a deep conditioning treatment that was just some extra intensive conditioner that was left on for maybe 30 secs.

Bought a groupon deal because I read all the great reviews on Unilocal.I made an appointment with William. During our consultation he listened about the things I wanted and didn’t want. He asked me to show him pictures of hair that I had in mind and we concluded that I should try an A-​line bob. I had long ombré hair and I wanted to get rid of the coloring at the bottom. He gave a great head massage when washing my hair, and the hair cut came out absolutely fabulous! I’ve gotten so many compliments. So happy with William and his haircut. Will definitely be coming back here

Absolutely LOVE this salon! William is amazing and so is the rest of the staff. I’ve been going to William for over a year and will never go anywhere else. He’s helped me get my hair longer than it’s ever been in time for my wedding that is coming up this Saturday. I highly recommend this salon and heard great things about all the stylists!

Two stars because the staff was really nice but I will not be coming back here. I came here because a friend had recommended it to me and because it was close to work. I get my haircut at a nice salon about once or twice a year so I’m ok spending more but if I can get a better quality haircut for way less, why would I come here? My hair was styled and curled after my haircut so I couldn’t tell but once I got home and showered, I noticed that my hair was cut unevenly and was very choppy. The left side of my hair was at least 1.5 inches shorter than the right and both sides had different length layers. Very displeased with the outcome, especially since I had to pay the same amount just to get it fixed elsewhere.

Dimitrios did a fabulous job. I wanted to get a bob but was nervous of looking like a little boy or a lollipop head. The cut was perfect and I have never received so many compliments on my hair!

Dimitrios did an absolutely BEAUTIFUL job on my cut and color this evening. I think it will help me feel fabulous for some upcoming job interviews… which would be a good thing, so I can afford to come back for more!

Until 2 years ago, I had what the industry calls «Virgin Hair». Originally, Mother Nature created me as brunette with gold undertones, but I fancied myself a redhead!
I was introduced to Carmichael’s by a friend who had been going there for over a year. On my first visit, I was pleasantly surprised when I was sat down for a detailed consultation. Most salons I’ve gone to didn’t take more then 3 minutes to actually talk to me about my hair. Yvonne wanted to make sure my decision to transform my hair was not just an impulse that I was going to regret later… she made me feel comfortable… after all, she was taking my hair’s virginity! ;)
I now get a multitude of services at Charmichaels every couple of weeks: long day is = full highlight, permanent color, conditioning treatment & french haircut. Maintenance appointments = glaze color treatment… I’m out in a little over an hour & my hair is super soft!
The space has been newly remodeled and has an awesome flow from the «color bar» to the DIY blow-​dry & style station – a big plus for us curly haired cuties!
I have recommended many friends and family members, you should check it out too!!!

We’ve all had dreams of being a rock star or at least having rock star hair. William Strange makes those dreams come true. He is my Billy Idol. He has done my hair mutiple times and i can assure you that he is technically and artistically gifted. He is passionate and knowledgable about his craft. If William is good enough for NYC runways and rock stars like Tommy Lee, he’s good enough for me. The man worked under Ted Gibson who cuts Anna Wintour’s bob! The one level bob he recently cut me was so precise and perfect — talk about next level, high fashion. All my friends have been raving about it.
I have gone to Bladerunners and Edo salon in SF and 5colorcowboy and W salon in san jose, but my all time favorite has to be Carmichael Salon. If you want someone with great talent and who truly cares — william is the one!

I originally came here last year after buying and Groupon. I was scheduled with William Strange, who, as it turns out, is my hair’s best friend. I have been back 3 – 4 times since that fateful Groupon appointment and have been happier with every cut. William originally took me from long hair to a bob, and now I have progressed to a really short bob and bangs. LOVE it!

I already loved Carmichael Salon because they have Rebecca Nummer, who is more than a hairstylist — she’s like a psychotherapist for your hair, asking about its hopes, dreams, and fears and then mysteriously using this information to make it look better than it has ever looked before. But last month I had an experience there that bumped them up in my mind to a whole new level of excellence.
I had called to change an appointment, but when I came in it turned out that whoever had taken the call had forgotten to make the change. I was still scheduled to be seen on my original date (when I was going to be out of town) and Rebecca was all booked that afternoon. Instead of apologizing but sending me on my way, as most salons would have done, the owner comped me a FREE haircut with another truly excellent stylist, William. I left with a great cut, more money in my pocket, and the highest opinion I’ve ever had of a salon. That is just good customer service. And it was done with such graciousness and kindness, too. Plus, it’s pretty impressive that the one stylist who randomly had a free block of time was as good as William was. To me at least, this seems strong evidence that all their stylists are just that good.
They pretty much have my loyalty forever.

I came upon this salon by a deal they had on Groupon. I wanted branch out and try a new salon so why not try Carmichael since the deal came with a conditioning treatment and my hair needed a major trim. I booked an appointment with William; he was very friendly, gave a great head massage, lots of hair maintenance and product advices, and gave a haircut to frame out my face. I was super happy with the results after leaving the salon with my new do all nicely curled. But once I got home, I noticed that my left side was an inch shorter than my right side… and after 2 days, I washed my hair, my friend noticed it was «choppy».
I really wanted to like this salon and make it my favorite, but sadly I’m not so happy with my hair anymore :(. Idk if it was because I used a Groupon deal or anything further, but I’m sticking with my go to salon for now on. But hey, the curls lasted for a good 2 days though!

I had the pleasure of photographing a styled wedding photo shoot where Rebekah Nummer did the bride (and groom’s!) hair. She was fantastic! The bride had shorter, straight hair and Rebekah turned her into a classically-​inspired knockout. Not only did she do an incredible job with her hair, Rebekah took time out of her busy schedule to assist the photo shoot. She also had great ideas for the bride’s veil placement and styling.
