Michael was super nice. My friend ruin my Ducati so I walk my bike to Michael. I missed him when he was in the store. So I left my bike and he came to the store to bring my bike back in to the store very shortly. He doesn’t only fix the problem that I found, but also checked and remind me what need to be replaced.

Michael is the man. I’ve only known him a short while so far but he’s been the best mechanic I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting. Really personable, knowledgeable and helpful — responds often, on time, and with images and clear explanations. He’s resourceful and in the small change he can’t help, he knows where you need to go to get help. Calspeed is one of a kind.

Mike is just an outstanding gentleman and businessman. I was dumb enough to leave the headlights on my cruiser on overnight — completely fried my battery. Fortunately, I live just a few blocks *up* hill from Calspeed. He recharged my battery for free — so I could get to a meeting — and went on to replace it very cheaply and with tremendous convenience for me. He offers everything from storage to extensive repairs. We are extremely lucky to have him in the neighborhood.

I brought my Vespa to him for an oil change. He not only changed the oil, but he caught a rookie error I made and he ended up changing the oil in my scooter twice (I messed up and brought him the wrong oil). He cleaned and polished my scooter and then was kind enough to drive me to a doctor’s appointment when time was getting tight (due to my incorrect oil debacle). He is so careful and thorough and such a nice guy! I would recommend Calspeed Moto to anyone with a motorcycle or scooter.

Awesome service. Here is a guy who knows his bikes. He sent me updates with pictures about the bike and what’s wrong with it and what i needed. Cheaper and better than other bike shops. Now i am thinking i should come here to do all my PPI (pre-​purchase inspections) on my bikes.

Michael is awesome. Just a one-​man crew who does what he does because he loves it. That means real care and attention, not just a come In and get out mentality. I picked up a used bike a few months ago, and he did a full check. He gave me recommendations on what need work or what will soon. He taught me a thing or two about bikes in general. Overall awesome service!

Michael was super friendly and helpful. Takes his time to check out your scooter. He actually traveled to where my bike broke down and told me it was a busted starter. Gave me a fair quote and a referral. If he can’t fix it, he knows someone just as honest who’ll make things right. Totally worth the call.

Michael, hands down, is the best mechanic that i have ever met! Beside the capability of fixing you bike, he was very easy to talk to and was very helpful to new riders like myself. Michael is also, no doubt, someone you can trust to handle you bike! After meeting him, i literary can trust him to pull me out of a burning building!

Michael is great. I first found out about CalSpeed Moto back in December when I lowsided my bike. He actually contacted me via BARF and told me to stop by if I wanted to get my bike looked at. I finally had a chance to go when my turn signal got busted. He was able to find a perfect signal at a low price and even found me a nice new black windscreen to replaced my cracked one. I got good deal for the great service and would definitely go there again.

Over all great service! It’s a small place with one mechanic. Michael is real great guy that took the time to invite me on rides and introduce me to the riding world. I’ve owned a scooter for a while but am new to motorcycles so of course I had plenty of questions to ask. Michael was very polite and was sure to give me insights and tips on buying a motorcycle. Even offered to take a look at a bike I’d be buying if they bring it by the shop.
Anyway, the service I had brought my scooter in was for oil change and Michael did more than was expected. I really like that he took the time to take pictures to illustrate what he was working on, so that I understood what was worked on and why it was done. Reasonable price for what he does for you. I’d recommend this shop for your cycle needs.
P. S. This was a last min request and drop of from me. Although Michael was busy, he was quick to adjust his schedule and provided me a time that worked for the both of us so that I could get back on the road. Since he knew it was my only means of transportation.

Another fantastic experience at Calspeed. Bike was in for new chains and sprockets. Not only did he get me amazing prices for parts, he took the time to check the entire bike and got my approval before fixing other troubled areas. He also lubed and tuned the entire bike at no extra cost. Bike runs so ridiculously smooth it’s scary. Top notch service.
AND I got a free loaner scooter while he worked on the bike. Fun!

Michael is a great guy and does way more than the bare minimum. I went in for an oil change on my bike and he showed me a few more small issues with my bike and helped me out with them! Michael is absolutely amazing. I may literally owe him my life, and I had thought my Vespa just needed a quick service!
My husband noticed that the coolant levels on my Vespa were getting low, and rather than bring it to the local dealership (who have treated me poorly in the past — see my Marina Auto Body review for the deets there, plus it’s 2015 now so my year warranty is up), I decided to look for a local shop. Lo and behold, Calspeed Moto pops up on Unilocal as being right down the street from me, and when I called to ask if he did Vespa work, there was no hesitation or problem — I dropped my scoot off that same morning (Friday)! He was honest about his timeline — it’s a small shop, just him, and he’s very, very talented (and therefore very very busy), but that actually worked great for me, since I was away this past weekend and couldn’t pick it up until Monday at the earliest anyways. We agreed we’d talk Tuesday and I’d pick it up either Tuesday or Wednesday.
Now, remember, I just brought her in for the coolant and because she makes a funny noise when going down hills. It sounded to me like a body noise, likely from when my husband forgot to put his parking brake on and knocked her over in the garage (yes I am still slightly grumpy about this), and since it had been happening for a few months and I hadn’t blown up yet I was figuring it wasn’t an emergency, but worth mentioning.
Tuesday rolls around and I receive a text with pictures — he did a complete oil and filter service for me, and noticed that my front brake line was leaking. He investigated the issue further and caught that it was missing a washer. This is bizarre, because I bought my Vespa brand new from the dealer here in SF and she had been serviced there every prior time — including the «first year full check» as stated and signed in the warranty booklet, including checking the break pads. Supposedly. Now, I use her as a daily driver, but I mostly ride in the city, so as of right now there’s about 750 miles on her, and only 500 were on her at the year check. I’m not going to bash someone else in this review, but it’s worth noting.
In any case, Michael not only noticed the problem, he fixed it, flushed the entire system and replaced it with fluids, and kept the scoot an extra day just to verify that the problem was due to the missing washer and not a caliper issue. He went absolutely above and beyond, and the brakes are now both working beautifully. He also noticed that my tires were at a ridiculously low psi, and reinflated them for me. I didn’t realize how difficult it was getting to ride my scoot until I rode her away from the shop and remembered «oh yeah — THIS is how it used to be».
I can’t compliment Michael enough. I brought my Vespa in for a very basic service, he caught a very serious issue that had slipped by multiple other people, and did it all while keeping me in the loop and for a very reasonable price. I won’t bring my Vespa anywhere else from now on.
Not to mention, I love supporting local businesses, and this is a local business that is run by a great guy who has been a wonderful local community member for a long time! If you have a motorcycle or a scooter and need anything, I would recommend him in a heartbeat with no hesitation, and I’ll be recommending him to everyone I know.
Oh, and the funny noise was just a body issue, which I may or may not bother to fix, since if I don’t fix it I can keep guilting my husband about it… 0:) Either way, Michael diagnosed it, is awesome, and is fun to talk to — he has a wealth of knowledge about motorcycling in the area, and even runs some local trips which I’m going to try to get in on!

This morning, the electric starter on my motorcycle stopped working. Panicked, I reached out to a few of my former colleagues at SKULLY for advice, but all the suggestions in the world didn’t help me.
The gas tank was full. The lights were all on. I choked it – no dice. I gave it some throttle, and still no reaction.
In a last ditch effort, I put in a call to a local motorcycle repair shop, and guess who showed up at my door to jump start my bike himself?

When he mentioned his name in the forum was «café racer», we got into an excited chat about building café racers, and talking about what we could do for my little chopper. I’ve always wanted my own café racer!
«Come by the shop anytime and just hang out! We could do some serious work on this thing,» he said.
Are you kidding?! The answer is obviously yes!
After jump starting my bike, he lead the way to his shop while I rode behind him, a little nervous since I don’t often ride through the city. When we got there, he gave me an AMAZING deal, was incredibly welcoming, kind, and completely understanding of my excitement to ride but fear of doing so alone.
I’m really looking forward to joining Mike and the rest of the BARF crew at a future bike meetup, and *super* stoked to go on a group ride. If everyone is as friendly and awesome as Mike was today, you can sign me up!
PS. The battery on my little cruiser was on its last legs, which explains why my electric starter didn’t have enough juice to get the engine going. Thank you so much to Mike for helping me out with this! A firefighter *and* an awesomely kind motorcycle mechanic?! Doesn’t get much better than that.

Just stopped by for the first time and Mike is a great guy. We discussed future work for my bike and he did a quick chain adjustment. Very knowledgeable and down to earth. I will definitely be back for all my future bike needs.

Calspeed and it’s owner Michael are a class act. Michael is the most helpful and friendly guy, and he takes the time and effort to make sure that your bike is in tip top shape.
I went in to get some brake work done, and his work was meticulously done, and he didn’t charge me for the extra time he spent to make sure everything was perfect. Also, he took the liberty to lube all moving parts on the bike and check tolerances, and adjust things as needed. Super great guy who does a stellar job. Communication is also top notch, and he made sure to explain everything he did in detail. I wouldn’t take my bike anywhere else.

When it comes to mechanics, especially for motorcycles, everybody wants someone they can trust. Calspeed Moto has earned my trust and my respect. After bringing my bike in for a broken brake line, I was kept well informed of all the progress as it happened. There were no hidden inspection fees or extras added to the bill, just a simple straight forward mechanic and a good guy. I’ll be back.

Michael is a fantastic dude. All his communication was prompt and professional.
I went riding all day in the rain a couple of weeks ago and found that the bike wouldn’t turn over the next day. I gave Calspeed a call and within an hour Michael checked out the bike and scheduled a follow-​up appointment. When he came back, he got the bike started in 20 minutes. Turns out it was the clutch switch wearing out. Michael also gave me suggestions for other parts and maintenance to be done and answered all my questions.
Overall, it was a great experience, and as another reviewer said, the rates are indeed half of what other shops charge. He accepts cash and credit through Square.

1^st impression with this guy, its amazing! Easy to talk with, i called him once, i got an appointment the other day, good communication as well, very professional, for short (He knows what he is talking about) aka Michael (CALSPEED) Highly Recommended. He has a spacious working place, i should say he got everything even the small tools and screws. While doing his stuff, he’s telling you a story about what he experienced, as a mechanic, as a rider, (no dull moment, very informative guy). He installed the windscreen, side mirror extenders for my Ducati 848, nice and easy! This guy deserve to have more than 5 stars, I am very happy, satistisfied customer. Oh!
