Benjamin Wan, MD

We had our first baby last year and as new parents, we did our due diligence by researching a number of pediatricians. By far, Dr. Wan stood out from the rest. After the tour and meeting with him, we knew our baby would be in great hands. He was very caring and patient, and more importantly progressive in his style.
The office staff was very easy to work with and super nice. The office is clean and nicely decorated. It was nice that they didn’t overbook appointments — we never felt rushed or waited for very long. It was always a pleasant experience.

My two kids have been seeing Dr. Wan now for a little over a year and we are so far very happy. When I interviewed him to see if we would be a good fit, I let him know why I was seeking to leave the pediatric office which was mainly all the nickel and dime charges for every bit of service. They would charge two separate office visits if we went to see them for more than one issue in one office visit and justify it by saying that they would have normally had to see my child in two separate visits for treatment. I also let him know that they would charge us to remove ear wax during annual checkups. He has been true to his word and never charged us extra for all these little extras. They are extremely receptive to taking care of minor problems via e-​mail and they don’t demand payment for it.
My kids love the office staff as well as the Dr. Wan and Michelle, the nurse practitioner. We enjoy visits here.

Our first and best pediatric ever!!! The office is clean and nice. Staff are friendly and helpful. Dr. Wan is professional and personable. We recommended to our friend and too bad they stop accepting patient.

I’m sorry to write this review, we really wanted to like Dr. Wan. He has great staff, a good looking office, and a good location. He is a good option if your child is healthy. However, amongst other things, we were truly disappointed when early on he discouraged us from seeing a specialist. Our child suffered needlessly for 13 months until we finally saw a specialist and his issue was 95% better within 24 hours. A pediatrician cannot know everything and should not discourage parents from seeking other advice.
The AAP recommends breastfeeding for AT LEAST one year, and to continue afterwards as long as mutually desired, Dr. Wan did not seem to encourage that. After bad advice and a few comments that did not make sense, we felt we could no longer trust what he said.

Cons —
Gives incorrect advice about breastfeeding.
Discourages you from seeing specialists.
After immunizations Dr. Wan puts the needles in the exam table cushion before disposing of properly. (pretty sure this is against FDA and JCAHO standards, not to mention unsanitary.)

I’m so happy to be able to have my kids see Dr wan since he is not taking new patients. Dr wan is super nice and every time I call — I ask for the nurses advice and she would consult with dr wan to see if I need to bring my baby to see him. All I can say is I’m so lucky to found him! I thought my last pediatrician was good. But he’s superb!!!

I was referred by a friend and got on the wait list months before my son was born. When I first called the office, the office knew I would want to do my homework before selecting a pediatrician. They allowed me to visit the facility and was kind enough to show me around and answer all my questions. They give you the option to schedule a meet and greet as well. (The other pediatrician offices I contacted simply told me the doctors don’t have time for that!) Once I had my baby, the new parent jitters started to surface. I called about every little thing. The staff is always friendly and helpful. Dr. Wan responds quickly and always manages to calm my nerves without making me feel like I’m a overly-​protective-​paranoid-​nut-​case. He understands how much parents care for their kids and I feel he genuinely cares for each of his patients/​family as well. In one instance, we reached out to him right before he was leaving for his vacation not expecting to hear back until his return but he got back to us within the hour! I feel blessed to have found a wonderful doctor for my baby and look forward to Dr. Wan overseeing his growth and health. As a parent, you want the best for your child and I definitely feel we found the best pediatrician!

Both of my kids have been patients of Dr. Wan since they were born.
Dr. Wan was working for Dr. Carol Lee but he opened his own practice near Stonestown.
I really trust Dr. Wan and his medical advice.
The best example was when Dr. Wan detected my son’s innocent heart murmur during a routine check up. The other doctors in Dr. Carol Lee’s office never mentioned and heard it when they were using their stethoscopes. Subsequently, Dr. Wan referred my son to a pediatric cardiologist at UCSF and my son is fine.
That incident convinced me. As a parent, I would want a doctor that pays such attention to detail.

Dr. Wan’s office is the best pediatric office I’ve had. I have been with 5 pediatrician between moves and relocations.
His staff is extremely friendly and very professional. They are soft spoken, never rushes to a solution, and always greet us with a kind smile. All documents are electronical; it’s super easy to pull up a file if you ever need a reference for school.
Dr. Wan is super nice! He is very soft spoken too and never rushes to finish my appt. I always take both my kids to the office and he always ask about the health of both of them.
The office is very new and super clean. Dr. Wan sometimes does the shots himself and is very gentle.
I highly recommend this office! They are now cutting down new patience to prevent overbooking. I never see more than two families in the lobby and there’s never a time I waited more than 10 minutes.
Sad that we have to move again, I wish this office the best!

Dr. Wan is a very patient and thorough doctor. Not once have I felt rushed during his visits with our children. Additionally, he is very open and not pushy about certain child rearing practices, such as bed sharing/​co-​sleeping, extended breastfeeding, etc.
Other bonuses include a recently remodeled office, friendly staff, and ample parking in the parking structure or adjacent outdoor lots. There is also a Subway downstairs if you want to buy your children something to eat after the appointment.
My only regret was not having him as my children’s pediatrician earlier!

Dr Wan is wonderful and his practice is fantastic. He’s been my son’s pediatrician for 9 months – since the very moment he was born – and we’ve had nothing but excellent experiences with him and his staff. He is warm, funny, kind and SUPREMELY patient with my neverending new mom questions, and we always feel that he has all the time in the world for us, both during our visits and on the couple of occasions when we’ve needed to call him with out-​of-​hours worries. I really cannot recommend Dr Wan highly enough and my son loves him too – which is pretty impressive, considering he’s the guy who sticks him with needles when he comes in for his shots!

We chose Dr. Wan as our pediatrician for our newborn after careful consideration and research.
My OB had a list of doctors in the area, and he was one of them. After corresponding with other pediatricians in SF, Dr. Wan seemed the perfect fit. Not only were we able to interview him in person (not just a staff member) but he did not charge us as so many others do.
From the day my daughter was born, Dr. Wan was at the hospital and everyday after that to give her checkups. Many pediatricians do not do this. He is detailed and very, very thorough. His office staff are very easy to communicate with and Dr. Wan will personally reply to emails should you have medical questions. He also tracks every visit on a tablet so all of your child’s information and notes are digital.
Our daughter is now 9 mos. and has been seeing Dr. Wan since birth. I have nothing but high praise for him and his office personnel.

We initially found Dr. Wan by searching near our home but from the moment we met with him during my pregnancy, we knew he would be a great doctor for our little boy. His office staff is great and we never wait more then a few minutes when we arrive. Highly recommend!

We love Dr. Wan, and our son does too, until he suspects he’ll be jabbed by a needle. Lol! Finding a pediatrician is one of the most time consuming tasks ever, but we were lucky enough to find one who works well with our son and who is also understanding of our beliefs. We’ve decided to forgo the standard vaccines schedule, and instead selectively delay our son’s vaccines. Dr. Wan of course informed us of the risks and such, but in the end he didn’t try to push vaccines on us. Which is wonderful and amazing, since so many doctors will push you of their practice if you stray from traditional stances. Also, he supports my breastfeeding my son, along with bedsharing. Of course he told us the AAP doesn’t recommend it, but he didn’t try to dissuade us either. Oh, he speaks Mandarin, Cantonese, and English! One of his staff members also speak Vietnamese, which is nice for folks who aren’t fluent in English.

Doctor wan is amazing! As a new parent, I was so nervous, and doctor wan is always there for me. He answers all my questions clearly and patiently without any judgement. He visited us daily at the newborn unit right after birth. And when my 3 weeks old had an infection, he made sure that he got a proper care and checked in with us consistently. It shows that he is caring and knowledgable. I am so happy we found doctor wan!

Also consider that they take Saturday appointments, are responsive through email, and take notes on ipads. We never have to wait, which is a must for taking two kids for shots. We love Dr. Wan!

Dr. Wan is a fantastic pediatrician. His friendly and open demeanor puts both anxious kids and nervous parents at ease. We followed Dr. Wan from his previous group practice and haven’t regretted our decision. He takes his time to answer all of our questions and thoroughly explains the course of treatments. He isn’t one to eagerly push meds when it’s not needed but has on occasion prescribed antibiotics when the illness required it. Overall, Dr. Wan is one of the best pediatrician we’ve had (we’ve seen 4 – 5 doctors at the group practice we’ve previously used).

Choosing a new pediatrician is always a difficult task. There are so many variables to consider, i.e. doctor, the staff, facilities, and most importantly the doctors bedside manners with children.
I did my research on several other doctors and Dr. Wan surpassed my expectations after a recent visit. My son simply loved coming here. The staff was friendly, proficient, and guided me through their process. Dr. Wan was equally knowledgeable and took care of my son. My son was asked questions which he could understand and he felt comfortable being there. He was treated promptly and discharged with a follow-​up.
Dr. Wan has a wonderful bedside manner and I was extremely pleased with how my son was treated and the overall experience.
This is definitely a doctor we are going to stick with.

I highly recommend Dr. Wan for anyone looking for a pediatrician. Dr. Wan is very knowledgable and detail oriented. He takes his time and makes sure all questions have been answered before my daughter and I left the office. In addition, he is extremely responsive. I have left 2 messages for Dr. Wan during my daughter’s first few weeks of life and each time he returned our call in about 15 minutes or so. Both my husband and I were impressed with the response rate.
Overall, we are extremely happy with Dr. Wan.

Both of my son have been seeing Dr. Wan since birth. They are now 7 and 3 years old. What I like about Dr. Wan is that he takes the time to answer our concerns and talk to us. He really cares. One time my son had to go to the emergency room. The next day I receives a surprising call from Dr. Wan to check up on him. I know that he genuinely cares about his patients.
Dr. Wan is great around kids. He takes the time to make them feel comfortable there. My boys are not afraid to go there and will listen to Dr. Wan. Stars for just that.

I recently went back old office and found out now he has own practice. I decided open Unilocal account to write review about him. Dr. Wan is the best medical professional I ever met in my life. I’ve been working with several doctors and dentists but he’s different. He actually cares and knows what he’s doing.
He was the most patient doctor and attended to all questions. I’ve never experienced another doctor put so much patience and care with his patients as Dr. Wan has.
Dr. Wan is an excellent doctor and a very nice person as well. I recommend him to anyone looking for a great doctor who loves kids.
