BAYCAT Academy

My son was accepted to the Baycat summer program this past summer when he was 11. He took music video and music production. The staff at Baycat is really amazing. These are some of the best and most inspiring, creative, positive, professional and sharp young people I’ve ever seen teaching youth. They have great resources and the state-​of-​the-​art equipment and tools. They are connected with the creative community, including companies like Zynga. We are fortunate to have Baycat in San Francisco. If your child has an interest in film making, art, performance arts or music, this is the place! It is a wonderful community.

Baycat is awesome!!!
They teach, empower, encourage and mentor kids (I think 11−17yrs) to express themselves via digital and artistic tools (incl. dance, theater, etc).
Why are they awesome?
Because…,…
– They are super professional and skilled at the media work they do (I teach video production full time, so this is in my corner of expertise),
—they have great facilities and top-​of-​the-​line equipment
—they attract great workers, teachers, mentors who work with the kids (proof: the kids keep wanting to return to Baycat — I’m struggeling to ween my 15 yrs off of them right now and to get him to come with us to Europe next summer — you know what? He’d give Europe the cold shoulder in 5sec if he could work as a mentor/​intern at Baycat instead…)
—and…they really, really do a great, ethical, progressive, group-​based training with kids from all backgrounds in the city resulting in a full win-​win for all kids involved. My son went there 3 times in the summer and had some of his most meaningful experiences with others there.
Baycat = A special place that promotes media awesomeness in kids (and pros as well).

I’m an SFUSD teacher, and BAYCAT helped me to teach an enrichment class in video production last spring. I have never had a more positive experience with an outside organization. They were incredibly responsive, professional, good with kids, and a pleasure to work with. The kids kept asking when we were going back, and BAYCAT was even super flexible about coming to our school to do a video shoot. I was very pleased with the final product of our collaboration, and we’re using the promo video we made in all of our school materials — it’s at the top of our school website!
In short, I keep trying to think of other ways to get them back in our school, and to get our kids over there. It was a privilege to work with them.

Great place for youth to learn about media from filmmaking and music. Everyone in the entire studio is friendly and helpful.

BAYCAT is a great place for youth to learn professional multi-​media skills, including apps.
Villy Wang and the entire team of BAYCAT is really able to connect with the young people and create a large divers community.
Baycat is a place where young people can take their skills an get into college and/​or get a job in the media they prefer.
