Batter’s Box SF

I wrote a review about how bad this place is and emailed the owner a more detailed response. I think he didn’t like how it brought down his star rating so «someone» flagged it and got it removed.
Let me rewrite it with more detail on why this place is bad.
The actual playing is fun. The staff is beyond rude. My date and I went in on Sunday around 4:30−5. We had an appointment. Upon arriving, there was a man sitting at the desk with his back to us. He didn’t acknowledge us, barely looked up from his phone. He was dismissive in our questions, snarky and rude about his critiques to us and again, he barely looked up from his phone. My date and I didn’t know what was going on. When we first arrived we thought maybe the place was closed because how rude and dismissive he was.
If his attitude would have been friendlier, more welcoming and more informative, the experience would’ve been a lot better but we actually left 10 minutes early even though we prepaid for the time because of him.

Kyle was super helpful and friendly, will definitely come back here. They have actual screen that has people pitching like it was a real field. Loved it. Planning to get the packages too

This place is so awesome. My daughter is a teen competitive softball player in the city. We go to Batter’s Box often, and they always are there with a tip or two to help her hone her swing. When I coached softball for SFLL I would bring my team to BB for mid-​week hitting and it was great. With difficulties in getting field time in the city this is a great mid-​week place with parking. They have video screens where the pitcher pitches to the player. Not many spots in the area have this, and it really helps with visibility. Kyle had some helpful suggestions today, and actually videotaped my daughter so she could tell what she was doing. It was just a simple movement in the hands but it helped her to see it, and by the end of the session she was definitely hitting better. Wish we had done it before our tryouts but so thankful to have such a facility in the Presidio. Highly recommend it for competitive SF softball and baseball players. With softball it helps to call to make sure they are set up. They also do soft pitch for adults as well, but for fast pitch softball, the machines throw up to 60 MPH at approximately 35 — 38 ft, which is D1 softball pitching speed. We usually work at 50 — 55 MPH which is high school speed.

I took my 12 year old son here for the first time today since he’s been working on his hitting all year. Kyle gave him excellent, useful advice with respect and authority so that my son could fully absorb and then apply his instructions immediately. I could see a huge improvement with his swing, stance and hitting by the time we left. We felt it was totally worth the money. We are looking forward to returning.

The Batter’s Box is great and fun. Great fun.
My friend and I are not your regular batting cages type of people, but we wanted some catharsis after a particularly frustrating stretch at work. So we made an appointment and showed up. Batting cages are fun, and more technologically advanced than I remembered.
The staff is very capable and helpful. The manager Kyle kept an eye on us– two folks well into adulthood– while also managing the stream of kids from summer camp wanting baseballs. Just an all around outstanding staff.
I wish the price for 30 minutes was a little bit more affordable.

Really enjoy coming here. I have two boys ages 8 and 10 that play baseball year round. Coming here really helps their game. The manager Kyle is knowledgeable and just an awesome person! K Fung

Soft ball /​hard ball 2 lanes, wait suprisingly no wait when we got there around 6pm on a friday nite, good spot to build an appetite
Friendly staff, clean, quick depending on how you like your pitches. Max speed on softball was 60mph max on hard ball was 90mph
Go with group of friends to make fun of you while you hit or miss some of the balls always makes it easier to concentrate as someone snickers as your stance, your swing, your follow through, etc, you know your closest friends that keep it real.
The staff is helpful and attentive to any needs, come by swing at some balls change the speed purposely when your friend tries to hit a 30mph ball switch it up to a 60mph or you know yell when they are not looking and wait for there reaction then pop a ball through. hahha yeah my friends are those guys haha

Finally found a local batting cage in San Francisco. Always wanted to try this. Great for kids and adults. A serious workout

Fun fact: I played little league softball until I was about 9 years old. It’s just something kids do in the Midwest. Of course, I played short stop like my all-​time favorite player, Ozzie Smith. And I once hit a home run… truly the pinnacle of my short (literally and figuratively) baseball career.
You’d never know this by watching me whiff at 15 pitches in a row at Batter’s Box, but damn, it was fun! Watching the big boys go at it made me nervous as heck, but the high tech machines here have different settings depending on your level of experience. Bring on the 12-​year old boy (aka the weenie) setting!
After two rounds of wildly swinging and missing by just a second or two, I finally hit the dang ball. Not pretty, not far, but I made contact. The little tomboy inside me grinned from ear to ear and wished for a congratulatory grape soda or push pop, the normal treat for kids post-​game.
Oh, I’ll be back. That punk ass teenage pitcher at the mound better watch out! There’s a former Glow Worm (the name of my girl’s team — we were all different kinds of bugs) who’s gonna take his ass down.

Walked in not being able to hit a ball (literally swing and a miss for the first several pitches)…walked out being able to make good contact with the baseball! Pretty awesome. I liked the visual pitch simulator. I would recommend wearing gloves if you have a pair; My hands started to hurt from batting after a while. Then again, I’m not really used to hitting baseballs– I have zero experience. Had a lot of fun and Max (the manager) was very helpful with picking the appropriate pitch speed and bat size for me. THANKS!

High tech batting cages. In SF! Double win.
My brother played little league and T ball when he was really young and I remember always having to trek with him out to the peninsula to get a decent hit in during the off season. I’m not sure why it took so long for someone to get it together, but thank you Batter’s Box for finally making it happen!
It’s indoors so the place has a more intimate feel. Might bother some, but I didn’t have an issue with it as long as I knew I wasn’t going to get hit ;) I really liked what they did with the interior. Typically batting cages are stark and dreary but the art on the walls really give the place a fun and energetic vibe.
It is on the pricier side but hey, you pay for what you get! I brought my little cousins here and the simulators really helped them visualize the pitcher. They’re on the younger side so they’re still developing their eye, but they were ecstatic off of all the contact they were making. Will definitely be coming back!

It was very small place, but just right for my 2 sons to practice hitting. It’s a nice change from the typical green light mechanical arm that throws the ball –here, they have a video of a pitcher throwing the ball at you.
Around $ 50 gives you 30 minutes of use. My husband says this is a deal and you do get a lot of pitches in!
My little one wants to go back for an hour!

The thought of balls being fired at you at lightning speeds can be daunting, especially if you’ve never played softball or baseball (me). Who knew that taking a few swings could be so fun!
The best part about this place is the staff and the venue – painted by local artists and infused with a true SF flair. There aren’t many functional batting cages out there, so I can see baseball teams and aspiring Pablo Sandovals around the bay singing praises about Batter’s Box SF.

This place is great! The staff are awesome and very knowledgable of the game of baseball. I don’t and never have played baseball so my batting skills are very limited. That being said, when i stepped to the plate i was hitting nothing but air, even though the pitch speed was pretty low. Feeling a little embarassed and a bit discouraged, the manager Max gave me a few helpful pointers and suddenly i was hitting like Bonds. Okay maybe not like Bonds, but i wasn’t missing anymore and was actually starting to hit more than grounders. I even bumped up the speed a few times, and as long as i did what he had suggested, could still hit pretty well.
As for the facility itself, its pretty awesome. The fact that there are real pitchers projected on a screen throwing the ball makes for a fun and very real experience. The location is also great, right in between the Golden Gate and House of Air at Crissy Field. After we hit for a while we went of to Crissy to hang out, have our lunch and since my buddy brought a baseball and some gloves, actually played some long toss as if we had moved on from batting practice to field practice.
We had a lot of fun at Batters Box and will definitely be returning soon, and absolutely give my recommendation for people of all ages and skill level to come enjoy this great new facility in San Francisco. Great Job Batters Box, see you soon, and keep up the good work!

«Coordinated» isn’t a word I would ever use to describe myself, so I was very hesitant to go into an enclosed area where balls were getting pitched at high speeds in my general direction. My friends somehow convinced me to take a few swings so I prepared myself for inevitable embarrassment.
To my surprise, I actually hit a few (*very* few) pitches on both the softball and baseball cages. It was such a fun experience. Made me feel like I actually had some athletic abilities. I would definitely recommend coming here to try it out.

Finally batting cages in SF! I tried both the softball and baseball cages. Although the softball cage has a short distance from machine to plate, they adjust the speed to replicate true speed across the plate. (Granted it’s been a while since I’ve hit fast pitch but it felt right to me!) The baseball cages are great for hitters at any skill level. I hit the slow speed while the batter next to me was hitting bullets!
What sets these cages apart from others is the pitcher animation on the screens in front of the machines. Great feature to help your timing.
To top it off, the staff is very friendly and helpful. My friend and I really enjoyed our visit on opening day and will definitely come back soon!
(Word to the wise: don’t forget the parking spaces are metered! Meter maids come by and give tickets generously. I now speak from experience…)

Amazing hitting facility that just opened up in the heart of Crissy Field. This place is great for the development of your hitting skills whether you’re a beginner or experienced. Even if you don’t play the game, all baseball fans will enjoy the experience here.
I was preparing for my college alumni game and I came here to get some live hacks. The pitching simulator really helps you get your timing back compared to just taking swings off a regular machine. I ended up smoking three line drives off live pitching in my alumni game. I’d have to give all the credit to Batters Box and the confidence it gave me that day. This was only after a few rounds, imagine how id feel after multiple sessions in here.
I grew up playing baseball in San Francisco and unfortunately there were no facilities available to improve my hitting skills. I just wish I had this facility growing up, so if you have kids in the city, get them in here ASAP to build up their confidence. I sometimes noticed kids In there swinging just to swing, without any instruction. The manager, Max gives private lessons which many should take advantage of because of his collegiate baseball experience.
Overall the place is visually pleasing with artwork done by local artists. Some great drawings of sf landmarks are on display, all the way down to the Box score of game 5 of the 2010 World Series. I felt like a little kid again hitting in there and this is a place you definitely can’t miss out on for Bay Area baseball fans.

A must-​visit for baseball fans and non-​fans alike. I grew up playing baseball in San Francisco and wish I had access to a facility like this. There are 3 cages (2 baseball and 1 softball) that use a projector to show a pitcher going through the wind-​up, and the pitching machine is located so the ball comes out exactly where the pitcher’s release point is. Really cool technology.

Ice hockey is my sport of choice, but there’s nothing like a batting cage to work out some everyday aggression. The staff can adjust the pitches to your desires! Being a woman, (and apparently sexist ;)), I started by asking to hit softballs, but it turned out that I am actually better at hitting baseballs (admittedly on the slowest speed possible).
I’ve never seen this type of technology before, which creates the image of an actual person throwing to you. In my case, it was a ~12-​year old boy and I’m happy to say I killed it vs. that little guy! That technology also lets you see the release of the ball, which takes the guess work out of hitting. I just love to hear that BOOM of my hits and will definitely be back soon for more.

Great new addition to Crissy Field!
Tucked away next to Petite Baleen, these batting cages are small but mighty. They are extremely modern, with video showing a pitcher throw each ball, which is both more entertaining and easier to focus on the next pitch. Speed and delivery can also be finely adjusted to your liking. Max, the owner, is a great young baseball guy who is full of encouragement for kids and expert advice (when you ask for it) for everyone.
Price is a little high, they will find their sweet spot. Excited to become a regular at the Batter’s Box!
