I went to this place out of grand curiosity, the kind that actually would kill the cat. What I have heard was that it was San Fransiscos answer to a retro alternative clube, european style. It didn’t know what I was expected, and yet I was surprised. This place could be more than what I give it, if there is a special event — but my 4 day visit in the bay area did not allow me to be picky. I came here on an obvious slow night, but this place has potential. Without any doubt. This place has a genius loci of a vibe from time passed, and now forced into its own reproduction with the wrong ingredients. This is not necessary a bad thing, but it is doubtlessly strange. it has ambiance and the patrons and employees alike are nice — but has that judgemental glare of, ‘if youre are not dressed to shock — you are not really a part of the culture’. because people here are dressed in a ‘come all-fusion’ of styles. Anything from Gothica to Japanese Kawaii will earn you a slot of respect, however one dressed casually is more of an outcast than a neophyte mansonite. Judgement. book cover. you know. When I was here it was loud, very loud. and as much as people might enjoy the beauty and the spectacle of the parade o’patrons — there is no way to interact with these pretty, quixotic people unless you want to go the charade or the ASL route. I will come back here, one day. if it’s still in business. And as I said, I am sure that there are night when this place it completely awesome.

Club Resurrection is in the back room of Cat club every Sunday night. They spin Traditional Gothic Rock, Punk, Deathrock, and Industrial. This is currently SF’s only weekly Deathrock theme night, good dance floor with no poles or beams in your way of dancing. You are going to hear Rozz’s Christian Death, Alien Sex Fiend, best of batcave with some punk/industrial in there. A fun night with laid back friendly staff of local goth types in a space with Batcave era type decorations and great tunes.
