BART – SF/Daly City to Fremont Line

Fifty minutes to get from the East Bay to the City. I wish it ran all week instead of just Monday to Saturday until 5 PM.

It gets you across the bay.
It used to be the «double-​airport» line; you could go directly from SFO to OAK and vice versa. Not terribly useful most of the time, but if you ever accidentally ended up at the wrong airport and still had two hours or so before your flight boarded, you might actually have made it. Sadly, this line doesn’t run all the way to SFO anymore, but you can still do that trick by transferring to a different line.

How to Get to Fremont From SF and Enjoy the Ride in 4 Easy Steps.
Step 1: Purchase BART ticket from one of the handy-​dandy ticket machines located at your favorite SF location. Most machines will accept your credit/​debit card as well as cash. ($ 10.50 round trip to Fremont from SF Civic Center!)
Step 2: Insert BART ticket into turn-​style and proceed down the escalator. Proper etiquette says to please stand to the right so others pass on the left. Thanks!
Step 3: Once the Fremont train arrives, step aboard and find a seat (though, don’t jump the queue you’re sure to be verbally smacked down by more seasoned riders)
Step 4: enjoy the ride!
— 1-​star for rude pick up artists. Be prepared and wear your iPod, bury your nose in a book, avoid all eye-​contact. These shady dudes can be hard to shake if you’re not prepared.
–1 star for BART cars that need a little cosmetic help. Or a little Fabreeze *phew!*
–1 star for the sluggish ride between Hayward & Union City. Some lame electrical issue that ends up delaying the ride almost 10 minutes. Total drag. Literally. Other than that, BART is generally close to on-​time in my experience!
+2 star for the surprisingly pretty views of rolling hills and tranquil ponds as you get deeper into the South-​East Bay, which make this city girl feel like she’s visiting the countryside far, far away.
