Smoked Turkey sandwiches are awesome! Normally get Dutch Crunch, but I had to settle for the Sweet Roll on Sunday. Still great!

This claims to be the home of the world’s greatest turkey sandwich, and let me tell you… they did not disappoint. If you want that traditional San Francisco experience… Get this on sourdough and you will love it. I chose to get mine on sweet roll as I like my bread a bit softer but wow… The turkey was so flavorful and the sandwich was delightfully refreshing after a night of hard drinking.

Day after Christmas, Had a hankering for turkey sandwich. This is the place. Real turkey. All good today. Finished with a chocolate chip cookie. Now ready for a nap.

Today was a disappointment! My turkey sandwich was not made to my instructions. ALSO, something I never noticed before: While I was waiting for the sandwich, there was a thick layer of dust under and around their weight scales. UGH! Please clean the granite top of the deli display.

Theis review is for the supermarket as a whole and it is a very great market. I don’t live nearby but if I did, it would definitely be the place I would go and get my groceries. It has the products of a higher end grocery store like Whole Foods, but has that small market/deli feel that you would see in a small town. Their deli is definitely top-of-the-line with excellent deli selections with particular emphasis placed on their potato salads, on which there is at least four or five different varieties. I should note, however, that the reason I came here is for their roast turkey sandwich, which, if I were giving this review solely based on that sandwich, I would have given three stars. Now, granted, I am more of a fan of extra-thinly-sliced turkey but even with that being said, I really failed to see what gave this sandwich the great recognition that it has received. It was very dry and there was no flavor at all. The funny thing is I was starving and more often than not, even flavorless food can taste good to me when I am really hungry. That wasn’t the case here. Honestly, if I didn’t have some of their delicious creole potato salad to accompany this sandwich, I would have been less than satisfied with my experience at this place. That being said, I am judging this place as a whole and I wouldn’t mind coming back here for some of their other products and deli selections. I might also give one of their other sandwiches a try in the future if I am in the right mood.

Super disappointed with their turkey sandwich today. Mind you, I’ve ordered from them many times and take visitors to try this worlds best sandwich. However, today it’s either the new guy or they are skimping on ingredients. The turkey sandwich with white and dark meat and everything on it was more like a veggie sandwich. I asked for avocado and barely got a teaspoon worth. Yes, I’ll give them another try but do note that your loyal customers do pay attention at your $ 9 sandwich.

The sandwiches are solid. I’m sure you’ll try their signature roast turkey sandwich but I actually like getting vegetarian sandwiches from here. Can’t explain it(I’m not a vegetarian) but I guess it’s the quality of the ingredients. Hold the onions unless you are eating alone… And the grocery store is clean and high end for a local shop.

World famous turkey sandwich? Famous for what? Dry turkey, dry bread, dry ingredients? A few warm pieces of turkey into an otherwise cold sandwich does not a hot sandwich make. Suggestions to make this a real world famous sandwich: 1. Heat it up. Press it, grill it, do something with the bread. 2. Add moistness. Slather on something interesting besides mayo. Flavored mayo would be fine even. Other ideas include dips, hummus, oil spreads. 3. Add tang. Mustard is usually fine, but not the amount you put on. Add some pickles, or other pickled ingredients. 4. More tomatoes. Can’t go wrong here. Plus, they add moisture and tang. Let me know if you’re up for the challenge, and I’ll be happy to return.

This is a rating on the famous turkey sandwich, because I don’t really think you need me to rate the produce. I ordered the turkey on the dutch crunch at around 1PM on a Tuesday. There were already some other people in life before us, but it definitely took less time to get a sandwich here than it would at Lou’s or one of the other nearby Richmond sandwich shops. So they got my order wrong– which was not the worst thing in the world, because instead of cheese I ended up with avocado. Otherwise, measuring the sandwich based off the turkey, cranberry, and bread. It was a filling sandwich– difficult to finish. But I would not label this the best sandwich in SF. Maybe it is because my dad used to make sandwiches using the pulled meat of a turkey or chicken, that this was not a wow, first time thing for me compared to others who typically only eat sliced turkey. Don’t get me wrong, it’s an adequate sandwich. I’d come back just because it is less than a block away from where I normally stay, but it would be more so out of convenience than the sandwich’s taste. The dutch crunch is sweet which matches well with the cranberry sauce but sometimes it was a little too much for me. The turkey was okay, nothing amazing. It’s a good sandwich if you’re in the area, but nothing you need to travel for.

Cool local market with a solid selection. The guy bagging the groceries was super friendly — he totally sold me on the chicken chili for next time. When I walked out, there were hippies strumming their guitar on the street, which punctuated the experience.

I am a native San Franciscan — I grew up eating the best sandwiches. I was so disappointed by this place that I had to write a Unilocal review — which I never ever do so negatively! I asked my boyfriend to pick me up a deli sandwich from Arguello. I gave him an exact written order and truly, by no fault of my boyfriend, I ended up with a terrible sandwich. Seriously, it’s so gross. They were out of the chicken that is listed on the menu so I opted for turkey. They don’t have pepperjack or white cheddar so I opted for regular cheddar. While ordering, my boyfriend had explained jokingly to the sandwich maker, «This is for my lady so it’s got to be right!» Strangely enough, when he brought the sandwich home it was completely missing the cheese and avocado that he had specifically asked for. Pretty sure the server took things personally when my boyfriend said«it’s got to be right» and I ended up with a lackluster sandwich. If you want an amazing sandwich go to Roxie’s, Gene’s, The Cheese Boutique, The Sub Center on West Portal, The Yellow Submarine — all native favorites!

I live in the neighborhood. It was convenient for me. Their sandwiches are okay but mediocre(I’ve had better). Two things: One: Rudeness! This expensive trap all they care about is profit and not their customers. I read one comment here and discovered that they are also homophobic! In San Francisco?! One of their employees in response to my elatedness over the US Supreme Court’s decision to strike down DOMA(Defense Of Marriage Act) and to Scalia’s disapproval the court passed 5 to 4 the same sex marriage as law of the land in all 50 states! Finally! This twit made the comment to me «You fags should have lost that ruling, Scalia was right’(!) Oh really? Uh, isn’t that conduct now considered to be a Hate Crime? I was shocked! He sort of ruined an otherwise ecstatic day for me! My boyfriend who was with me as well and he was outraged. So this store must be homophobic like their rude and base lowlife employees! Two: their sandwich I had ordered at their deli. A turkey sandwich on a Dutch roll. It tasked okay, but later at home… uh hem! Well, shall we just say that I got sick. Bad stomach pain and cramping followed by nasty and vicious diarrhoea! Almost went to ER! My friend called the San Francisco Health Department and filed complaint. Better to go the seven blocks west on Cabrillo to Safeway. They too have a deli. Good and they shan’t leave your intestinal tract in tatters! …And they are far cheaper — and nicer! Or there is also on Haight and Stanyan, Whole Foods. They too have a good deli. bit expensive but also will not disembowel you! Please avoid Argüello Super at all costs! They are very unprofessional, rude, homophobic, overtly expensive, and their food evidently not all that safe!

We’ve lived in the Richmond District for a few years now and this market/deli has been on my radar, unfulfilled. We stopped by on a sunny Saturday afternoon to try the famous turkey sandwiches. The deli is conveniently located to your left as you enter the market. We came around 3 pm, so we didn’t see much of a lunch rush. There were only two guys working the deli counter though, so keep that in mind if you come during a normal lunch hour. The turkeys used for the famous sandwiches are proudly roasting in a large oven, spinning and turning as the deli clerks expertly craft your sandwich. I ordered the turkey sandwich on sliced wheat with avocado(no cheese no onion). I like how they use white and dark meat, which gives it more flavor and moisture. My boyfriend had his turkey sandwich on sourdough roll with cheddar cheese and liked his too. He isn’t a fan of sandwich rolls and wished the sourdough came in slices like my sandwich did! Overall very delicious sandwiches!

I came here with my family for the deli sandwiches for the first time. My mom got the«famous» turkey sandwich, which she did not like at all. She said it was very, very dry. What’s super lame is for one slice of bread, they used the heel(end piece of loaf) of the bread for her sandwich! I’ve never, ever seen a deli do that. Also, she said there was almost no mayo, which is unusual because usually deli sandwiches have too much mayo. The other weird thing is they don’t serve water. You have to buy bottled water. Ok. My sister bought a big jug of water and then we asked for cups. The guy at the counter said they could not give us cups. I thought that was weird, so I asked the girl at the register. She said that if we paid 25 cents each, we could have cups. Ok, fine. We just spent $ 50 for 5 sandwiches and we have to pay another $ 1.25 for paper cups? Lame. And if you must charge, shouldn’t cups be like 10 cents? I’ve been in for the market many times, usually as an «emergency» because everything is pretty pricey. Won’t be back for the deli!

This review is just for the roast turkey sandwich at the counter. When I showed up on a Sunday at noon and there were 6 – 7 people ahead of me in line for a sandwich, I had a good feeling. The line moved fast and I ordered 2 roast turkey sandwiches. They had an oven there roasting 2 – 3 whole turkeys and they slice it fresh right in front of you. The sandwich was basically the best turkey sandwich I’ve ever had. Super moist and delicious meat and quality bread(I got dutch crunch). Plus we ate there outside. Recommended.

I come here basically every day that I have class at USF for a turkey sandwich on Dutch crunch. Their sandwiches are arguably some of the best in the city. In addition to great sandwiches they have a large variety of foods for sale. Samosas, pasta salads, tuna salad, dolmas, calzones to name a few. Seeing as it is a supermarket they have fresh produce as well as all of the staples any household could need. It’s a great little neighborhood store with friendly staff.

Arguello market, grocery wise, has most things you need but it’s a bit pricey. I usually go here for their famous turkey sandwiches. Hands down one of the best turkey sandwiches you can get in the city and its very fresh with mixed of dark and white meat. I usually get it with a dutch crunch roll with everything on it and extra cranberry sauce and avocados! Yum!

This place is a great little mart with fantastic turkey sandwiches.(Go for the hot turkey with cranberry and avocado — you heard me.) One star off however because it’s a luck of the draw if you get a good sandwich maker(which as we all know can make or break the sandwich.) Most are very nice, but I have noticed one in particular can be quite rude(and also only puts 1 ring of onion, 1 pickle, 1 small tomato, etc on your sandwich.)

I hesitate to write this review because I live a block away and know I will go to Arguello Market at least 2x a week. I just hate that I have to go here. To be specific I am reviewing the market and not the deli. 1. The turkey sandwhich with cranberries is DELICIOUS. I crave this sandwich sometimes and NEED to eat it. It is big, unique, and I am pretty sure it is made with love every time, by some beardy man. Thank you, beardy man! But if I were to review the market, and offer any advice. My advice is: plan ahead so that when you go to the normal grocery store: Safeway, trader Joes, or Costco, you buy everything you need at a reasonable price and do not have to come here for the ones offs, which are REALLY expensive. And those one offs add up. I would know. $ 10 for one filet of salmon $ 10 for 1lb ground coffee $ 10 for hot chocolate mix! :( $ 5 for almond milk… ok maybe that is normal, but you could by it on sale somewhere! Maybe other people are made out of money and don’t mind paying the convenience premium, but I resent people like my boyfriend who keeps sending me on these one offs that at the end of the week have cost me $ 50. Mr. Arguello Market, please do not throw me out of your store when you see me come in. P. S. That hispanic man that always wears the white uniform and works as a cashier needs an attitude adjustment. The lady cashiers are a delight though!
