Highly recommend all stylists at Alexander G. I see Amy M., and she’s completely transformed my once brassy blonde hair into a fresh, modern and beachy look. My hair is healthy and shiny even though I swim most days. I also love the attention to detail, not only by Amy, but the entire staff. Everyone is warm and friendly. I am served sparkling water and fresh coffee from a French press upon my arrival. Prices are reasonable. Appointments are easy to book on-​line. Do yourself a favor and book an appointment today!

It has been more than two years that Jennifer never disappoints me with all of the haircuts. I highly recommend anyone to book with her. I think I am going to make a call after writing this review to book a haircut with Jennifer!

Best haircuts in the last 3 years. I went and used Melissa and Tatum’s services and both were great, yet, it was the master’s haircut that made a difference. I got to have Alexander do my hair himself and he brought that sexy, powerful me that I forgot from working too much. Loved it, got over 200 likes total on my both LinkedIn and Facebook, used the shots for all my professional appearances. Alexander G is a quality place that will bring a goddess in you :) Best money spent — invested in self.

I needed a last minute hair coloring when my regular person wasn’t available. I got an appointment within a couple of days and the results were excellent and fairly priced. Highly recommend!

This is a great salon. I see Amy Morris and she’s an extremely talented colorist. She has a very artistic approach and I have the most natural looking, rich highlights as a result. She puts a complimentary gloss on my hair after she colors it to imbue it with shine. I love that the salon does this as a matter of course for its clients — no nickel and diming. They want their clients to look great and leave with glossy hair! In addition to being a great colorist, Amy is also a lovely, positive person with a great sense of humor. Plus, her services are reasonably priced, considering her skill and the high quality products used by the salon, which means I can afford to patronize her regularly, every five weeks. :-)
Amy is the only hairdresser I’ve seen there but overall, the salon seems very well-​run by the owner, Alexander. Everyone is very friendly and customer service-​focused and it’s a clean and charming space. A bonus is that they have British magazines!

I love Amy Morris at this salon. She is so great and willing to try anything with me and is just excited about hair. I love her enthusiasm and she did my hair exactly how I wanted it, actually better than I could have imagined. She is also so accommodating and patient with me and my tight schedule. Also, shes just a really sweet, kind person which is the kind of person I like to be around. (so tired of the weird hipster too cool for school service that has plagued sf as of late!) I highly HIGHLY recommend her for color, cut, all of it!

This review is for Jennifer, I got so many compliments for the hair color she did on me. There were multiple colors and the dimension she added was beautiful and natural looking.
This is the most I have paid for any sort of hair styling but it was totally worth the price and the salon experience. I will definitely come by!

I would get Tatum 5 stars. But overall salon experience 4 stars. This place is pretty decent. They won’t push product or try to up-​sell. I wouldn’t drive there just for the cut, but if you live in the area it’s probably the best place to go in Richmond. You can really trust them with your hair.

I accompanied my girlfriend to this salon, wondering why she had to drive over an hour for a color. While waiting, I decided to get a much needed cut. I ended up with Jennifer, my girlfriend’s stylist and am absolutely impressed with the results!
While waiting, I observed Alexander coaching a stylist and it was all about listening to the client and asking the right questions. Jennifer did just that and tamed my curly head of hair with precision and expertise.
This is, by far, the most I’ve ever paid for a men’s cut, but totally worth the money.

This review is for Marilyn! I’ve been a loyal client since February and have been going back very frequently actually– more than often, than I’ve ever in the past 5 months. I’ve gotten my hair cut& colored by marilyn and both turned out great. I received many compliments on my very first color treatment, which was a red wine shade that Marilyn listened and excuted exactly how I envisioned it! She’s extremely knowledgeable with hair and offers realistic recommendations to styles and desires for clients. Not to mention the entire appt she keeps me laughing! Which is another plus besides her being a quality dresser she’s also personable:) my favorite part during my appt is the blow drying, marilyn always makes it look so effortless and graceful as she’s creating volumes and texture to my hair. shes even given insight on tricks that i religiously use today whenever i blow dry my hair!
so if you’re looking for a new do or color I highly recommend miss marilyn!

So, when I first moved to the US I had a bad experience with hairdressers. VERY bad. So I Googled British hairdressers and found Alexander G. I needed to do something to rectify the disaster and gave it a go. And I got Tatum.
She is amazing. The best hairdresser, ever. She manages my thick, unruly, curly hair amazingly — as well as she manages my desire to have thin straight manageable hair. She never cuts in a style I won’t have the patience, ability or inclination to look after, is easily the best blow dryer I’ve ever experienced, and has completely transformed my hair (whilst entirely restoring my faith in American hairdressers). I won’t go anywhere else.

I saw Tatum for the first time as a hair stylist a year ago, and got the first best hair cut of my life.
I have a lot of thick, curly/​wavy hair, and most the time just prefer it to air dry and do its thing. Tatum was able to shape my hair to help bring my curls to life! She gave my hair a perfect amount of layering to leave my normally «thick, blanket looking» hair some bouncy girls. I got my first haircut a couple of weeks before embarking on a 4 month trip around South America. The hair cut lasted its shape the whole time I was down there, and she even cut it so that I wouldn’t have to do any styling to it. Do you understand how amazing it is to have great looking hair when you don’t even have hot water?! Let alone styling product!
Tatum is the best by far!
She takes your lifestyle in account when she is cutting your hair, even knowing I only like to get my haircut every 4 – 6 months, she gives me a cut that will last.
I even moved out of San Francisco this last year, and will make trips up to the city just to get my hair cut by her. At this point, I don’t think I could trust my curly locks with anyone else.
Not only is she a great hair stylist, she is also a really cool chick, who is down to earth, chill, friendly, and genuine. She’s a lady you’d want to hang out with, and makes the service feel more like catching up than getting a hair cut.

I always get my hair done by Tatum at Alexander G. I am picky about my style, yet I never know what I want– but this lady gets it right, every time!!!
I’ve been going to Tatum for over a year for cut, color, up-​do styling, you name it. By now I really can’t imagine having anyone else do my hair. Plus, she is fun and easy to talk to, which is important. I’m not the type to want to sit and read a magazine in the salon, so I love that Tatum takes the time to have a genuine interest in me and my life, and she always makes me laugh! I consider her a friend, not just a stylist. I’m telling you, go to Tatum and you will not be disappointed!

It’s been a couple years and I am still coming to Alexander G. It’s nice to have a salon like this in the Outer Richmond — you know, high end, high quality, natural ingredients in their products, excellent friendly service (love being able to sip on coffee or tea, especially since I like getting my hair done first thing in the morning)…
Since my last review, I’ve also started asking Aimee to color my hair. We went with subtle highlights first (I’m VERY wary of developing orange Asian hair! EW!) and since then have lightened it up another shade. The color still looks good and grows out really well so I’m not having to touch up so soften. And now we’re playing with balayage — fun! Aimee gives really good advice and suggestions for coloring my hair, gives amazing scalp massages when washing your hair, and of course gives awesome awesome cuts.
This isn’t the cheapest salon, though I will say their pricing for coloring is pretty competitive. AND, you really do get what you pay for. Your hair is the one thing everyone sees every day, why not spend a little more to get something that looks great?

I went here once back in 2008, and had a 3-​star experience, max 3.5. I got a simple blow-​out and remember paying a LOT for it.
This time was WAY better — got a same-​day appt (idk whether they’re just not too busy, but I can’t imagine why). They have remodeled, though, the place is a bigger than it seems. You may just miss the entrance from the street if you’re not looking for it, and you’re led up steep stairs, the place looks a lot more open once you’re in the salon-​space.
Needing an emergency haircut yesterday, I called and made an appointment with Tatum (I swear, I thought her name was Atom, which would be so cool!) It doesn’t matter bc Atom is the sweetest person ever! She is very straight-​forward and down-​to-​earth, which is always nice, it was more like meeting an old friend rather than having an awkward conversation with a pretentious stylist. She doesn’t say things to please you, or be agreeable, she speaks her mind but she’s SO nice — which makes this a great quality!
I admit, it had been quite a while since my last haircut, and she could tell — she seemed genuinely concerned about the condition of my hair. She made me promise I would condition it at the end of the appt — like an older sister would… awe!
The cut she gave me was perfect, she listened to my minimalistic instructions, and delivered exactly what I wanted. The blowout after was perfect, airy, breezy and contemporary. Perfection. I’ve never had an easier time explaining what I wanted, and getting it than I did with Tatum yday.
I do wish that they were a bit cheaper, paying close to $ 100 for a haircut w tip seemed normal to me in LA until I moved here and realized talent isn’t necessarily expensive, but I guess in this case, it is and it’s totally worth it!

Ok. I admit it. I’m LAZY when it comes to my hair. I’m willing to spend, oh, maybe 10 minutes. Including blow dry. And, I often let the highlights slip and go more than 4 months between visits.

She first got her hands on my hair just after joining Alexander G… About FIVE years ago! It was love at first cut and color. I’ve never had a stylist so in tune with my hair and how to make it cooperate (even at home!) A quick blow-​dry with a round brush is all I need for my hair to look fantastic. The highlights she gives me are so well-​blended and natural that they grow out beautifully.
I’ve always gotten what I’ve asked for, but honestly, after 5 years, I’ve stopped worrying about it. I just make myself comfortable in her chair and let her do her thing!
(I’ll note that I had her style my hair for my engagement shoot last week… And I have received SOOOOO many compliments on my hair in the pictures. It honestly looks amazing.)

Second round with Tatum yesterday and LOVE LOVE LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE my color! I am sooo happy to have found the best colorist in SF, it only took me 3.5 years! Tatum rocks my world and is an expert colorist! I will follow her where ever she goes!
