Adelaide Hostel

This review is long over do. I stayed at the Adelaide for 3 nights and I couldn’t have been more happy with my stay.
My visit to San Francisco was a spontaneous trip and if I would have stayed anywhere else, my trip would have not been the same. All of the staff was very friendly and helpful! The hostel was always well kept and clean. The hostel also organizes several events during the week for people to meet one another and explore the city. There is also a large common room for people to gather and hang out. OH and did I mention complimentary breakfast?! :)
I highly recommend that anyone who stays at the Adelaide goes on a bar crawl. On my last night in San Francisco, I went on a bar crawl led by William. He was very knowledgable about the city and took our group to some FANTASTIC bars! I really enjoyed myself and was happy to have William leading our group!

Busy place full of interesting people, free breakfast, my room room was quiet, places to sit and hang out in common areas, location is good. With all the people, it’s not all that clean (but doable). I’m definitely coming back!

I love this hostel, because it felt very genuine. The rooms were very comfortable, the bunks were easy to sleep in, and even though everything is not up-​to-​date, it made me feel at home. I was also surprised that there are definitely enough restrooms, even though most of them are singles with one toilet. I think this house used to be a boarding house and has been converted into an excellent hostel. It’s also on a great Street, you turn right off the busy street in San Francisco to a small alley and it is perfect. They also have a great breakfast for free in the morning! Who wouldn’t want to come here.

The staff here is just phenomenal! Very friendly, and helpful! They seem to let you do your thing, without being too much up in your business, as long as you’re not being a complete A-​hole. By the way, THANK YOU for putting up with us! We were in SF to party, and we might have been a tad loud at times, at all hours.
Yet, no one gave us a hard time about it. I had stayed in hostels before, but had never stayed in a dorm room with people I didn’t know. It was a fun experience, and I would do it again, for sure!
The location is a very seedy neighborhood, but made for more of an adventure. We actually interacted with a few of the local characters and they were very nice people. Just keep your wits about you, stay aware, don’t walk down dark alleys by yourself, etc, and you should be fine. The hostel is conveniently located to many other desirable parts of the city, via walking and public transit.
The beds are cozy little nooks with a comfy bed and each equipped with reading lights, outlets, and shelves. As well as ample storage underneath the beds with a latch that you can lock, provided you bring your own, or buy one from reception for $ 5. I would advise bringing your own pillow, because the ones provided are thin and ineffective. Only a $ 1 charge for towel rental; showers are clean and plentiful, but don’t forget your shower shoes, in any case.
Considering the immediate area, a good dive bar with cheap[ish] drinks and a jukebox for hungover day drinking, try The High Tide Lounge (super divey). We struck out several times in the Tenderloin for food, even though Unilocal gave these places a good score! I would suggest walking the half mile down to SoMa to Super Duper Burgers. I was highly impressed with this chain-​looking place (they only have 7 location, and are based in the Bay area). There’s a coffee shop, also close by, called Fresh Brew, owned by friendly family, that can make a decent cup. There a million and one liquor stores close by, but no actual grocery stores, so the few places that have beer are more expensive than usual.
All in all, this was a great experience! Can’t beat $ 160 for 4 nights in inner SF!

Good location, only a few minute to union square. Hostel is not in modern stay but look very clean and tidy. Hostel is good provide a huge breakfast! I love curtain for each bed, so it make privacy area! Just small think for improvement is water is very slow but not a big problem, isn’t it! I will be back!

Best price quality in downtown. Really good place. Especially the private rooms! Amazing experience and quite for downtown.

This is the best hostel in America. Actually, this is the best place in America. I’ve never met a better group of individuals in my life, ever. I wish I was born and raised here because the people here so very, very good people and great fun. Ever taught your Irish soulmate how to play mancala? Here you might. Ever had happy birthday sung to you by a group of awesome French guys? Here you might. Ever had a concierge hand you a banana and engage you in your life story? Here you will. Ramtin, you are amazing and thank you so much for making my San Francisco experience for me. STAY AT THIS PLACE!

I’m speechless… I just got back home from a much needed weekend getaway and my stay at The Adelaide was so much more than I ever imagined. The staff was amazing. Since it was my first time I called several times before arriving and each time I was greeted and spoken to so kindly and the gal was always very helpful! And then the day that I checked in the gal at the counter was just as polite and helpful and I was able to check into my room early! My entire stay there was so peaceful and amazing it was the best experience ever! The last day that I checked out they stored my luggage for the entire day as I ventured off into the city. Never once did they ever make me feel like they are inconvenienced. And I have to say the place was very clean the bathrooms were very very clean! Needless to say this will be my new get away and I’m already planning my next trip! Thank you so much Adelaide family for everything you do!

Overall the room was ok, ask for a bottom bunk because top bunks are incredibly difficult to climb in and out of or bring any of your things up to. The 2 stars are for the staff. The chick at the front desk was rediculously snotty from the get go, and for people unfamiliar with hostels or san fransisco, she didn’t offer a very warm welcome. I called back from the plane to ask them if they could ship the expensive pillow I left and again the response was a shitty tone saying «well cant you just come pick it up?», –IF IM CALLING TO ASK IT TO BE SENT OBVIOUSLY I CANT COME PICK IT UP. what a bunch of asshole city kids with arrogant snobby attitudes. I wouldn’t recommend this place nor visit again just based on the dick head service. No on offered to help me with me 50lb suitcase up to the third floor, (there is no elevator) except for one nice kid who was staying there not working there. If I managed this place and heard of or saw this behavior they wouldve been shit canned. Ive worked in the service industry for 20 years and I am absolutely appalled.

This place gets an easy five stars from me. The accommodations were great! Clean and comfortable, free breakfast every morning, WiFi. What more do you want. The staff were all very friendly, Ramon was very helpful and nice. And Gustavo is a great cook and very nice also. I felt very safe at this place. Also this hostel is in a very good location. I already booked my next stay here when I come watch my raiders play across the bay next month!

Love this place! This is my new go-​to San Francisco hostel!
I was greeted by a nice young lady who was able to accommodate my check in early, which was amazing of her!!! The hostel is nice, the rooms are clean, restrooms clean (toilet, shower, floors: clean) surprisingly! Most hostels are a dump but this one surely isn’t! The staff is mostly young people which is nice, to be around; they are all very friendly. The breakfast was free and decent (toast, bagels, fruit, coffee, juice)!
It’s a hit or miss with the people you stay with in the room BUT if you have any issues, the lovely ladies/​staff don’t have an issue switching your room, just ask them!
Overall I love this place, feels very home-​like and the people are nice! Free breakfast and nightly food/​activities!
I’ll definitely be back soon :-)

Muy bien ubicado, puedes caminar a casi cualquier lugar del centro de San Francisco, el Wifi es bueno en todo el lugar y es gratis, las instalaciones muy limpias, el personal es amigable y las camas son cómodas, además nadie le dice no a sandwiches de Nutella para desayuno!, organizan actividades con los huéspedes y tienen gran cantidad de libros para que leas.

I stayed here recently for a couple of nights while I was waiting to move into my apartment. Overall it was a wonderful experience. The only thing I didn’t like was the location, which many have already mentioned. Don’t stray, talk to strangers, or walk alone if you’re a female and you should be ok. I appreciated the free breakfast and coffee downstairs. I thought it was really cool how they offered all different kinds of jams, breads, and even Nutella. Definitely a plus! Other benefits were separate shower and toilet rooms on each floor, fast wifi, computers specifically for guests, and a diverse mix of people! I got along great with the girls I stayed with and it made my stay SO enjoyable. The TV took downstairs is a great way to meet people and relax a bit :) I would definitely recommend this place for anyone looking for a cheap place to stay that’s nearby just about everything!

This was a fun hostel tucked away in an alley, which made it very easy to sleep! The breakfast was great, lots of variety of bread, jams, and condiments. Very close to Bart and muni stations!

The Adelaide Hostel has spoilt me for hostels forever. Everything about this place is fantastic: wifi speed, cleanliness, friendliness of staff etc. The hostel is also really cleverly designed in the way that there are quite separated fun time and sleep time areas so you can get the rest you need or meet with friends at pretty much any time of the day. Also, it’s centrally located, the breakfast is filling, the laundry is cheap and there are power points everywhere. If I get to come back to San Francisco I won’t hesitate to stay here again.

I stayed here last year and it was pretty fun. I LOVED that each bed had its own light and outlet plug to plug in tunes, laptop, cell whatever and a heavy duty curtain you could wrap yourself in so that your light didn’t keep anyone else up at night if you are a night owl. The only negative for me was the staff and by that I mean the one Bitchy asian girl at the front. Everyone else was pretty descent but not her. As other people have commented in previous reviews the front staff can be a hard pill to swallow and it’s because of that I dropped a star from my rating. I paid for the week upfront (like they requested) $ 300+ cash so I asked her for a receipt of course… she literally rolled her eyes at me and said she didn’t have the time to do it now and that I would have to come back which was weird since I was the only one in line at the time. She kinda gave me an ultimatum which was either pay then with no receipt or give up my slot since they were booked for the week so I just handed over the money and wished for the best. I came back in the afternoon and a different, nicer girl handed me a receipt in less than a minute. not sure what was so complicated about it that bitchy girl couldn’t do it. Clearly customer service is not her forte.
PROS: large refrigerator & pantry to store any food you purchase, full kitchen to prepare & cook your own meals, individual rooms available still cheaper than hotel but book super early, pretty outdoor patio, great bunks and large storage for suitcases. Close to shopping, bus routes/​subway. If you enjoy walking you can pretty much walk to the majority of attractions from here. Basic Breakfast included. The pub crawl is really fun.
CONS: Right next to Tenderloin. you’ll need a nose plug & a strong will to walk in this area. Do not recommend females walking alone in this area at night. I always made sure my bus dropped me off North of the Hostel and I walked south to the Hostel… never the other way at night. The alley noise can get kinda loud at night sometimes. Some rooms have bedbugs apparently, mine didn’t though. Wi-​fi almost useless at night, too many people on it.
Overall I enjoyed my stay and made 4 new friends! I would recommend it to people who are easy going and flexible.

In San Francisco einen bezahlbaren Übernachtungsplatz zu finden, ist gar nicht mal so einfach. Auf unserer Suche sind wir glücklicherweise über das sympathische Adelaide Hostel im Zentrum von San Francisco gestolpert.
Wir haben zu fünft in einer Private Suite für bis zu sechs Personen übernachtet, die standardmäßig $ 179, — Dollar kostet, inklusive Frühstück und kleinen Zahnpasta-​Tuben sowie Duschequipment für jeden im Badezimmer. Das Ganze war aber exklusive Tax, was — wie ich finde — in den USA oft etwas irritierend ist.
Das Frühstück habe ich ehrlich gesagt nicht probiert, da wir uns die Nacht vorher schön um die Ohren geschlagen haben in den Kneipen und Clubs der Stadt, die natürlich entgegengesetzt zur Berlin-​Manier pünktlich zur Sperrstunde dicht machen und einen ziemlich unverblümt auf die Straße setzen. ;)
Das Hostel hat übrigens zwei Häuser die etwa 2 Gehminuten voneinander entfernt sind. In dem Haus, in dem wir waren, gab es dann einen uralten Fahrstuhl, der für ein schönes nostalgisches Ambiente gesorgt hat.
Die Mitarbeiter, die wir erlebt haben, waren auch sehr sympathisch und haben uns unter anderem den Tip gegeben, abens nochmal aufs Dach des Hostels zu gehen und von dort den Blick über diese grandiose Stadt wandern zu lassen.
Bei meinem nächsten San-​Fran-​Trip würde ich wieder hierher kommen! :)

We didn’t stay in a dorm room, though I heard all together good things from other guests. The «Phillipe» private room served us very well for the weekend in San Fran, at approximately $ 115/​night USD it was an expensive stay, reasonable for the area and well worth it. Delicious bagel breakfast with bottomless coffee and OJ, super attractive and friendly staff, cool staff run tours and a super funky building. Good for travellers, for adventure or business as its a much nicer feel than your standard Holiday Inn types which cost similar for a queen room w/​ensuite

To simply say it, Adelaide Hostel is a nice quiet, clean, welcoming, not expensive Hostel in San Francisco.
I arrived to start a new job in SF so I wanted to search for an apartment. I stayed at Adelaide during 16 days and I felt I already found a home in SF. I met some nice travelers, nice staff and amazing utilities!
Who EVER you are, I recommend it!

Awesome hostel! specially the staff is very nice and helpful. They have the best breakfast. Also the bunk beds are wooden and placed in such way that you won’t feel anyone moving. Although upper beds need some sorts of railing protection. Putting curtains on beds makes it complete private. It has lockers under the bed which is another plus. Easy going, nice, laidback behavior staff.
As a whole best stay in a hostel. I’ll definately come again here.

I wanted a place to stay in San Francisco when I went there for music festival. Because the festival was free and I was getting using ‘free’ Miles from my airline to get there, I wanted to do it all on the cheap. I thought a hostel would be a good idea.
I didn’t know how I’d feel, not having my own hotel room where I could come back from my day and unwind. Also didn’t know how it would feel to have «roommates».
This was my first time staying at an adult hostel; I’ve stayed at youth hostels many many years ago, and realized that you have to make sure the hostel you want allows guests over 30.
Adelaides was the perfect entry into these waters. Great price, great location, staff and amenities really couldn’t be better. The way they have the dorm rooms set up, you get quite a bit of privacy it you want it. Your valuables stay safe in a locked compartment that is yours alone. And the large common area is more than suitable for unwinding from one part of your day and going into another. Everyone staying there was very nice too! I only met one of the guys in my room, but we had many pleasant conversations. I was not the oldest guest by far– I’m 55– but there were also many younger travelers. They seemed to take advantage of and enjoy the planned events that Adelaides has.
I would definitely recommend this for someone who is planning to visit SF and be out and about, seeing all the things the city has to offer. It was busy but quiet, cheap but clean (impressive how clean they keep it), quaint but modern (computers, wifi). I’ll be staying there again.

I don’t know if I have the words to truly express my feelings towards this hostel. Everyone here is super sweet and nice! The place is clean, well kept and cozy! Each room looks a little different from the others, with different murals, paintings and curtains! Feels like a lovely boarding house! I wish I could live here indefinitely. I love my little cubby bed, feels like a comfy little fort when the curtains are closed! I haven’t had to wait for bathroom or shower at all! And extra pillows were available as well!
Wifi is a little shotty in the evenings when everyone is home but still better then the wifi at the Starbucks down the street.
Only complaint was when I got here there was a misunderstanding with the beds and I got moved from bed to bed! But now I am pretty settled, happy and will be extending my stay!
I HIGHLY recommend this hostel to anyone and everyone!

Auberge de jeunesse situé dans le Downtown. Situé dans une impasse, étonnant au premier abord. Chambre individuelle disponible ou dortoir jusqu’à 12 lits. Pour les chambres individuelles, il nous conduise au Dakota Hotel où les chambres sont sympathiques malgré la vetusté du bâtiment. Petit déjeuner correct à la «continental».
