Look. Dorian is amazing.
Both times I have been here he has accommodated me last-​minute, made me lovely green tea and listened to me kvetch about my life. He also introduced me to an amazing product not available in the states — and actually gave me the rest of the bottle when he was done!
AND. One of the times I actually had to LEAVE toward the end of one of my appointments, and he still accommodated me to finish the cut later!
Which leads me to the most important part: Dorian will take the time to make sure you get a brilliant haircut, every time. Seriously, you will look marvelous. Go to him!

Best hair cut that I’ve ever had. My hair looks so cute! Dorian cut my hair. He was meticulous, thoughtful and very kind. He said that I can come by whenever in between haircuts to have my bangs and such trimmed for free too.
Each station in the salon uses a different piece of vintage furniture (vanities, dressers, etc.), which I thought was fun and cute. Pus I experienced no wait time when I came in around 11:00 AM on a Tuesday.
At $ 95 it was more expensive that I’m used to paying for a hair cut, but the money was well worth it. I’ll be seeing Dorian for all my future cuts.

I was torn on writing this review. You see, we live in a competitive world: a world where every detail of you matters, including (and especially perhaps) how cool your haircut is. If I tell Unilocal how amazing Carol is, then maybe more people will go to her and I’ll stop having the most awesome hair in town! But I have to share. Carol is amazing and never lets me down. I get dozens of compliments every single time she gets anywhere near my hair, and I have no intention of switching to anyone else, even if I some day move to another city. I’d fly back to SF just for haircuts!

I was having a really bad day and the only thing that could make it better was a nice haircut and good blow out. Something to make me feel sexy.
I did a pretty exhaustive search on Unilocal before stumbling upon this salon. I needed a place that could deal with a head of thick, asian hair and someone to work some magic on it. All the reviews that lured me to this salon were all for the hair guru Dorian. With all those good reviews, I figured let’s try this…
The salon was empty because it was the Friday before Labor Day, but a really sweet man explained that he was just finishing up with his last client and he would be right with me. Dorian offered me a beverage on multiple occassions and judging by the how the girl’s hair in the chair was looking– I knew that the reviews were right… her hair looked fantastic and the stylist was an angel!
Finally, when it my turn came, Dorian’s was generousity was clear, he apologized for running late (not at all his fault as his previous clients were all late), and then he kindly took me to the chair for the best hair/​scalp massage!
During the entire time he was cutting and styling my hair, he was super nice to let me vent about my terrible day and offered me incredibly valuable advice.
I didn’t realize we were finished because it was soo easy to talk to Dorian, and then when I looked at my haircut and blowout– I felt like I had victoria secret model hair! I absolutely love LOVE LOVE it!!!
I will be coming back all the time, but will only see Dorian– seriously the sweetest guy EVER.

I’ve known Dorian for a while now. He has mentioned that he’d love to cut my hair a few times here and there. I decided to do that very thing and I think it is the best hair decision I have made in about 3 years! I love how he cut my hair. he thinned out my hair after I mentioned I get a super hot head in the summers. And it is growing in to look even better than I thought. I’m completely happy with my move over to Dorian.
He is also super nice, polite and patient. Cannot wait to go back:)

Let me first start off by saying that I’m just a normal dude. A normal dude who 1) Likes looking good 2) Appreciates professionalism 3) Doesn’t like BS 4) Likes looking good. I’ve been seeing Serena for 3 years and she fulfills all of the above.
My grandmother once said, «A man’s hair will make or break him.» Fed up with sub-​par haircuts, I finally took my grandma’s advice and sought out a real hair stylist. Every time I leave, it’s the best haircut I’ve ever had. Bold statement but truth.
Most importantly, Serena has been on time for all my appointments and always accommodates my crazy schedule. Add to the fact that she’s very patient and knowledgeable, I feel very confident in any advice she gives me. She is a professional in the truest sense of the word.
If you’re a dude (or dudette) do yourself a favor and see Serena. I recommend her to all my friends!

I had my first haircut with Dorian a while back, and knew right then and there that I would be seeing him for a loooooong time.
He is a magician when it comes to hair. He transformed my fine, lifeless long hair to beautifully cut layers with so much body — even before the blowout!
The first haircut he gave me was fantastic, and the layers were perfectly aligned, and framed my face well. Just went back in for my trim, and he gave it some more body. I always ask for his opinion, and he tells me what he thinks works best as well as how to take care of my hair.
You will get an amazing shampoo, with such a great head massage, and then taken to the magic seat. He spends time on your hair (which I love because I know he wants it to look great), and at the end gives the best blowout ever.
I walk out of Acme swinging my voluminous, shiny hair feeling like a movie star, and it’s all thanks to Dorian!

I booked an appointment for Saturday April 19^th at 4pm with a fellow named Dorian.
I show up at 3:52pm and I see there is a customer getting her hair done by a lady hair stylist. No other stylists in sight and all the other hair booths are empty. I am early, and the blow dryer is blasting at full speed, so i just take a seat along with two other waiting customers.
About 20-​something minutes pass, and the clock reads 4:15. I’m a patient person… The lady gets done with her customer and greets the other two waiters (clearly these are regulars). She seats them and then asks me if I’ve been helped. I said «No, I have a 4pm with Dorian, it’s my first time here.» She says, «I’m so sorry about that, he is just finishing up with a customer and should be with you shortly.» I said, «Ok. Thanks.» She did offer me something to drink as well, which was nice.
Anyway, I’m sitting there waiting, like a straight chump for another 15 minutes. And no sign of Dorian.
So guess what? I got up and left! Yup! I reached the ACME of my patience. This is not the only salon in the city! This is a perfect example of terrible customer service. The owner of this salon really should invest the minimum wage it costs to pay a receptionist!
At 4:55 pm, Dorian calls me (by that time I am already 5 blocks away) and says «I’m so sorry about the delay, I cut my finger really bad.» I said «I hope you feel better. Goodbye.»
If Dorian really cut his finger, I really hope he is okay, however I would really have appreciated a phone call earlier in the day notifying me of any delay. And the 4:55pm phone call should have included a complimentary future appointment for any color/​style.
I feel like a chump that I waited so long. About 30 – 40 minutes of my life was taken from me today and all because I wanted to get my hair done!

My hair stylist Ana-​Maria moved to a different salon.
Finding her wasn’t as easy as I thought. With the help of some really nice stylists at Acme, I was able to find Ana-Maria’s new location. Thankfully, she only went across the street to Echos Hair Design. Very convenient!
Ana-​Maria AKA Bambiana is now running her own business named, «Bambiana for Long Hair,» which you can find on Unilocal

When it comes to my hair and make-​up only Ana-​Maria is able to always make me feel sexy. She truly enjoys her profession. Her style is always well detailed, which achieves a very soft feminine look.

Gosh how I miss my healthy, shiny, thick pregnancy hair! It’s been 6 months and I finally was able to get away and treat myself to a haircut. I needed it BAD… at this point my hair had thinned out from the drop in hormones and the luscious locks which were once there are long gone.
I logged onto Acme Head and Body and scheduled an appointment with Ana. She is the only one I trust cutting/​styling my hair. (straight typical black Asian hair) I was extremely bummed when she emailed me that she was no longer working there. However, she said for now she makes house calls until she finds another salon to work at.
I was a little hesitant to have her come to my house to cut, however I worried for nothing. Our appointment was set for noon and she came 15 mins early! I had my hair washed and tied up in a bun so it stayed wet. I set up a small area with enough lighting for her to work. My 6 month old baby was sound asleep in her room and there was no need to find a sitter.
she snipped away and we chit chatted the entire time…
then came the blow drying… styling…and voila!
The end result healthier… sexy…and bouncy hair! I felt like a million bucks and I haven’t felt this good in a long time. Motherhood can sometimes make you feel a little frumpy… it’s a good thing Ana is a pro at what she does!

Does everyone fall in love with Ana? Or is it just me?
I went to Ana when my long, fine, wavy hair got too long to manage. I still liked the length, though — one of the many things she got right about me. Ana asks great questions, and she really spends time getting to know you and your hair. That makes a difference — as does the time she devotes to cutting hair exactly right. My new cut works beautifully no matter what I do with it. I haven’t been able to say that for years.
It doesn’t hurt that Ana is personable and funny: a great person to trust with not just your hair, but an hour-​plus of your life.
Ana is so good at what she does that mentioning her beauty almost seems beside the point.

Ana-​Maria is as good as it gets! I’m fortunate to have found a stylist in the FiDi area that knows how to cut asian hair. Her layering and styling techniques leaves me feeling fresh and sexy after every visit! ;)

I just had a haircut and blow dry by Holly today and ended up with AMAZING results!
It is impossible for me to find a stylist that listens to what I want and also has the knowledge to tell me what would look best for me. I am always hopping around to new stylists in search of someone who can give me what I’m looking for. SHE HAD IT ALL! I told her I liked my length, and she kept it. I told her I wanted a full look, and she gave it to me! The blowout wasn’t just an average blowout by an average stylist, she STYLED it and it looked so beautiful. I am amazed that she gave me such a great cut and style and shampoo in just 45 minutes! She was so efficient! Now I have a great cut for the holidays, thanks to her!
Holly is stylish, edgy, sweet, and so down to earth! The experience was so great and smooth, I will definitely be returning to see her again!!! Thank you HOLLY!

So some of the stylists here are cold and a little rude, but Ana-​Marie is awesomeeee! She’s so warm and friendly and puts you right at ease, like she’s one of your girlfriends.
I have really long, straight asian hair that’s great if you want it to look sleek, but boring if you want to switch it up and do anything else to your hair. Ana-​marie specializes in long hair, and she will give you the sexiest haircut of your life! If you want hot, Victoria’s Secret Model hair, with lots of volume and waves, look no further! She really takes her time cutting tonssss of layers in your hair – it’s been a long time since I’ve had my hair done with this many smooth layers in it.

Clifford did my hair and make-​up for my City Hall wedding and the result was great. He used temptu (airbrush) for makeup — it smelled rather nice and looked great. Even better, it lasted the whole day without touch-​up. I even got rained on as I was shooting my wedding pics in the Japanese Tea Garden and yet, my hair and make-​up still looked perfect at dinner time.
Price was great too. Since my wedding was not a huge affair — just City Hall and a family dinner, Clifford gave me a break on the price and he was the only one who was willing to do so. All the other make-​up artists I contacted quoted me prices from $ 600 and above.
If you are looking for a great hair and make-​up for a party or an important dinner, make your appointment with Clifford!

GET A BRAZILIAN BLOWOUT.
Along with my transition to surfer-​girl blond, Wes suggested that I get the Brazilian Blowout. Why? Because after years of torturing my hair, and having days where I ranged from poodle to full on ‘fro, I needed something sleek. This was a little over a week ago, and I’ve been waiting to update my review until I knew I could actually get my hair as straight as Wes did.
And I CAN! And it’s PRETTY!
If you have curly/​wavy/​poodle hair, and have longed for pin-​straight hair, try this. It’s well worth it.

I have OCD.
It’s my hair.
I’m very hesitant about trying just anybody when it comes to hair, so the decision to try out Wes at Acme Salon took a couple of months. I waited until my bangs were almost to my chin. I waited until my color had faded to a stylist’s nightmare. I waited for more recommendations from friends before coming to Wes.
Wes started on time (a plus!) He makes you feel comfortable with that friendly smile, immediately followed by a «can I get you something to drink?». Together, you go over options for hair color/​cut and asks you about your daily routines. He wanted to make sure that I walk out of this salon with not only a bangin’ hairstyle, but also a satisfied customer.
Acme uses two color brands and the one we choose is Davines. (a european line with a company premise of creating hair products using natural ingredients. This company also uses renewable energy sources in their laboratories.) Wes talks about what he’s doing in each step so you’re not just sitting there lost and wondering «what is he doing?» I really love the red in my hair, so we kept that but he brought it closer to my natural dark brown shade, lightened it up and made it more copper-​like. The end result: a fabulous color that complements my skin tone so well! He cleaned up my layers and bangs, but nothing too drastic since I wanted to keep my length. You know what? I’ve been sitting on this review trying to put my experience in writing the best way possible and really, there isn’t anything else I can say except: you have to try Wes for yourself.
Acme has a convenient online booking system so scheduling a hair appointment is a breeze. (wow, no waiting on the phone listening to hold music!) Wes has convenient hours, he usually starts around noon and you can book an appointment as late as 6pm! Parking is also not a problem with the Sutter-​Stockton garage ($ 2.50/hour) a short walk away.
With all these pluses listed above, you really shouldn’t have an excuse NOT to get your hair done at Acme by Wes. Soon.
Unless you’re OCD about making excuses.

Wes is everything you want in a hairdresser. Easy on the eyes. Engaging conversationalist. Efficient and fast.
More importantly, I am now sporting the best haircut I’ve had in a very long time. Maybe ever.

I made an appointment with Wes to lighten my hair color a bit, and he happily obliged to my request, along with his own wise advice to maintain a natural shade (
).
His consistency in work ethic shined through as he sectioned, highlighted and blew out my hair as last time (
). He even gave me suggestions to how I could achieve the salon look at home, along with helpful tips to hair cuts suitable for my face shape and personal style.
In addition to his amazing skills, he was very attentive and offered me additional magazines and a beverage when I was waiting for my hair color to set.
When Wes was finished, I was so breathless by the beautiful results (
), that I booked a haircut appointment with him immediately, despite never having my hair cut by another.
Stop dressing like a ho to get noticed. Wes’s magic does the trick.
Case in point? A guy asked me out when I was crossing the street afterwards. And he was still driving in his car!
