If you like Phở, don’t have it at this Chinese restaurant! The broth was lacking in everything. And oily. The Vietnamese rolls, were served with shredded lettuce. What am I am suppose to do with that? Everything was questionable here! But for phở, my standards are high. Stick to Asian briber goods in downtown Oakland and Los Angeles for good phở!

I love this place when I’m feeling sick. I come here to get Jook(rice porridge) because it’s comforting. On a cold day, I like their Soup Noodles, both the Chinese and Vietnamese versions. The Jook is delicious and reminds me of when my Pau Pau would make Jook for me. It’s thick in consistency and has real big chunks of fish, chicken or pork with thousand year old egg. Even the egg come in big pieces. They add green onion and ginger to the Jook which makes it tastier especially when my throat is itchy. The portions are huge and it’s only $ 6.50 for Chicken Jook or $ 7.50 for Fish Jook. I also like the cooked entrees and my office occasionally orders from here. Their Hawaiian BBQ is fine too but I prefer the Chow Fun, Meat with String Beans, and things of that nature. When we order for delivery, the owner delivers it himself and he’s never been late. We always bet on what time he’ll arrive and he’s somehow not early nor late but RIGHTONTIME! I service is very friendly and I should mention I order my food in Cantonese though their English is fine. Even my white husband orders in Cantonese here and they practice with him vs. the rude ladies at Lee’s(another review, another time).

As a huge fan of Phở, I discovered this places as part of my Phở places hunt. I found their chicken Phở is far better(though it’s not the best) compared to other financial district places. Quantity is little disappointing though, I feel Hungry after two hours of having their phở :( Andddd…their fried rices: Tried almost all of their chicken fried verities, but didn’t like anyone. Though they are huge in quantity, too oily and have plenty of rice with very less meat.

This place offered food that was edible. It’s really close to my office so I figured I owed it a chance after walking by for almost a full year. It was packed when I stepped in this past blustery Tuesday afternoon. I ordered the Rare Beef Phở with chow fun noodles(special request) which was around $ 9.50, scoped out a little table in the back, and popped in a podcast while I waited. The space is cozy, I guess, but the open door to Battery made the place a little on the freezing side. My giant, steaming bowl arrived a few minutes later. Much to my satisfaction, they have fish sauce and swiftly brought me extra jalepenos. Now to the food. I must keep it real, folks: I have had better phở. The noodles were great, but it’s relatively easy to find a phở spot that offers chow fun noodles. The meat was not as fresh as it could have been, already tough and cooked through by the time it hit the table. The broth was on the sweet side and had a ton of lemongrass in it. If I had to do it all over, I probably would have taken a pass and just grabbed something else. Maybe Chinese /Hawaiian BBQ is their strong suit? But hey, I tried, and I don’t think this review will dent their seemingly devout client base.

Excellent Phở! Always good and does not make me sleepy. So they must be holding the MSG.

I came here for lunch the other day and was pleasantly surprised. The restaurant is small but there are two counters with bar stools at them so a bunch of lunch breakers can sit and eat-in, there are also a few small and larger dining tables. You can either order food at the cash register that is made to order, or you can stand at the end of the steam table row and order a 1, 2 or 3 item plate(the same way you would at Panda). Note that even though there is a sign that says«Order here» at the cashier, you do not order there for the«buffet» style food. Your plate is served for you and you can choose steamed rice, fried rice or chow mein. I got the chicken fried rice and it was great, it’s the kind that(seems to me to be) more authentic and lighter in flavor, the rice appears white and there are few items mixed in, this is my preference with fried rice. I got a one item and ordered the string bean chicken. It was made with garlic black bean sauce and white meat chicken. I really liked it, although it would have been better had the strings been removed from the beans. But then again it’s only $ 8 and I wouldn’t want them to have to increase the price due to all of that extra labor. I’ll be back… maybe even today …

Tried the phở here for lunch and it was terrible. Soup base was VERYSALTY, portion was very small(I guess for an average person it would be okay but not enough for me), noodles were overcooked, beef wasn’t very good. I would not recommend coming here for phở.

Not bad Phở for a Chinese/Hawaiian place. LoL The broth was pretty good… order the Spicy phở, it’s pretty good. Even the buffet styled Chinese food didn’t look bad. Totally unpretentious and prices were right. I’d definitely come back.

THis used to be my go-to for HK style beef chow fun. Perfectly and appropriately prepared, dry, with green onions and bean sprouts. I worked away from the FiDi last couple years and looks like this place, like Hong Kee & Kim few blocks up, has changed hands to Viet owners. The HK chow fun was not prepared right, and was a soupy mess with bok choy, carrots(!?), and some beef. I was so disappointed. The buffet/combo items still look OK, but I’ve never ordered from that so I can’t really opine. If you are going for real HK chow fun, skip 77.

Service here is really slow and inefficient if you order at the register. I had to remind them that I ordered food before they started making it. Ended up waiting about 40 minutes before I got the food. The food itself was okay, not great. I’d recommend going somewhere else unless you get in the buffet line(not sure how that tastes)

No actual Hawaiian barbecue at this restaurant. Their menus been changed to say it’s Chinese and Vietnamese cuisine. Currently waiting for my sweet and sour chicken lunch plate so I have nothing to say about quality yet!

I got the tomato beef pan fried noodles and they were pretty good except that the beef didn’t taste fresh to me. So I ended up eating all the noodles which I was okay with. I guess the only Chinese restaurant downtown that I can trust with their beef is R & G. The place was pretty busy when I went in. I’m glad I called in my order otherwise, who knows how long I would’ve waited. Don’t know if I will be back. Glad I got it out of my system to try this place.

This restaurant is just OK. Food quality and taste is 6⁄10. Location is convenient since it is in the middle of the financial district. Good choice for some quick chinese food out of a Panda Express. During Lunch time it gets very packed(like always at financial). And finally, I think they should change their name to 77 Chinese period, no more Hawaiian food exist in there.

I am so disappointed. Being from Oahu, when I walked by the Hawaiian BBQ sign, my mouth immediately started to water. I quickly ordered the bbq chicken plate with mac. DONTEVERORDER this! The Mac tasted like wet cardboard — it wasn’t creamy and tasty but instead bland, watery and chalky if that’s a way to describe the consistency :(chicken was loaded with sodium, had to toss this entire plate. Looks can be deceiving :(

They sell phở here now. Best in this part of the Financial District and only place to go for it. Don’t bother anywhere else. Hands down…

The restaurant across the street wasn’t cooking anything as they were revamping their menu so decided to eat here for a quick lunch. It’s set up like Panda Express, but it’s definitely far superior. If you like spicy food, then you’ll love this! The vegetarian fried rice is phenomenal but I wouldn’t get the chicken fried rice or chicken chow mien, the veggie fun mien is way better! I love their deep fried spare ribs, but if you can’t handle the heat, don’t try it. Their eggplant tofu is really delicious, but I wasn’t impressed with their honey chicken or sesame chicken, actually don’t even go for it. Their green beans though, wow! This place really does vegetarian well, but their meat dishes are disappointing. So for a vegetarian stand point, i would recommend this place to everyone. Unfortunately, if you enjoy meat, this might not be the best place for it.

This place has a lot of potential to be a great chinese fast food joint … potential Recently ordered: BBQ chicken hawaiian bbq plate about $ 9 after tax I had no where to go and no idea what I wanted and i stumbled on this 77 chinese & hawaiian bbq spot. OH man i regretted it after i ate a piece of that«BBQ» chicken that they might as well call soy sauce chicken because of how SALTY it was. Chicken was way too salty. Next, rice was cheap rice(i can taste the quality cuz i’m asian) and the macaroni salad was not very good, pretty bland. For the price I paid that was almost $ 9, I expected better tasting food for that price. Unfortunately, the taste was not there and the price is inflated to fit the FIDI prices. I dont think I want to come back…

The concept has potential and the location is great. The beef is mystery meat and VERY greasy. Many things are battered and deep fried. Not even cheap. Stay away. I much prefer Panda Express.

One of my favorite lunch spots having worked in the Financial District for 10+ years – the owner is SUPER nice and courteous, and staff is friendly, too. Sometimes I ask the owner for suggestions, and he’ll customize my lunch entrée based on what’s good and fresh(i.e. salmon). Other times I run out of ideas for lunch and he’ll «surprise» me, and what’s served is always delicious and price is reasonable to say the least. I highly recommend this place for either dine-in or to-go order. 77 is our staple that we come back again and again. :D

Blame Canada. Blame it on the Bossa Nova. Blame it on the Boogie. But for Pete’s sake, don’t blame me for having a once-in-a-while craving for won ton soup on a wintry workday when the cold breezes cause a chill both indoors and out. I had a hope that 77 Chinese Cuisine may offer a good one, but that hope was dashed when I attempted to order the $ 6.50 Won Ton Noodle Soup with a request for extra won ton. When I went to the buffet line with my order, the woman kept looking at me like I was speaking in tongues. I repeated my order as another woman kept shoveling food onto a plate for the customer behind me. She said rather inexplicably«Chow Mein». No, I repeated, «Won Ton Noodle Soup with Extra Won Ton». She just waved me off to wait over to the side. For ten minutes, I had no idea what I was going to get. Meanwhile, people who came after me were getting their orders without hesitation. I kept seeing an unattended bowl wrapped in a plastic bag at the order window. Could it be mine? No, another customer got it. Finally my bowl arrived, I paid $ 8.50 presumably for the«extra won ton». Lack of trust motivated me to open the bag to see if I was going to be stuck with a bowl of chow mein. Nope, it looked like the right order. Back in the office, I attempted to slurp it, but it bun my tun(see photo). And so ends my harrowing story of miscommunication and misperception. FOOD — 2 stars… I bun my tun AMBIANCE — 2 stars… a lunch room for the indiscriminate eater of greasy-looking Chinese food SERVICE — 2 stars… puzzled and puzzling TOTAL — 2 stars… no special orders please… and feel free to blame it on the boogie
