It’s our mission to enhance each family’s experience of childhood; to share our delight in this precious stage of life.

We are a non-​sectarian group of professionals and families with similar values about the care of children. The private elementary students are surrounded by a community of adults deeply committed to their educational goals. Our preschool gathers staff and parents thrilled with the curiosity and potential of 2 — 5 year-​olds. The infant center caregivers are part of the families they serve, providing comfort and encouragement to babies and parents.

History

Established in 1960.

Marie Dove believed that children in «nursery» could be offered activities to help them later in school. She opened Dove Pre-​school in 1960 and then, by parent request, expanded into elementary school the following year. Later, in 1971, Ruth Hammer opened A Growing Place with the same idea in mind. Her company Educational Programs, Inc. continues her commitment to small schools that reflect the values of the communities they serve, Play Factory in Temple City, Serendipity in Monrovia, Cal Tot in Los Angeles.

Dove Day School thrived in West Covina until 2013 when the property was sold to build new homes. Mrs. Dove’s granddaughter, Jackie met Mrs. Hammer’s son, Craig and he found a new home for the students and staff on the Serendipity in San Dimas. Ruth and Marie are gone now but children continue to benefit from their dreams.

Jackie started at Dove Day School when she was 3 years old. As the granddaughter of the founder, she believed that she was the boss. That was many many years ago and now she is the boss! In those years she tried out other occupations but found that she really just needed to be a preschool teacher. If you ask «what do you like most about your job» she will say «Job? What job? I have a sand box… we are all just playing here!» and then invite you to come by and see the sandbox, find a better world through the eyes of the children.
