I am extremely picky about who cuts my hair, because I have very curly, very thick hair. My hair is past my bottom, since it hasn’t been cut in ten years. When I received a groupon for a cut, condition and full high lights at a fantastic deal, I thought, «Why not?» The service was exceptional from the moment the phone was answered. I made my appointment and was pleasantly surprised when my stylist, Zina, called me the day before my appointment to confirm my appt. time and services requested. I wasn’t sure about how much of my hair I wanted to cut but Zina was great with explaining what cuts would compliment me and which would not. Throughout my appt, she asked questions about my usual hair care regimen and gave me some awesome advice, that fit into my routine, to maintain my great hair style. I love my new haircut and I definitely recommend this salon.

I had to take the time to write a review on how much I love getting my hair done by Zina G (she’s the owner). I struggled to find a stylist after moving to San Diego 4 years ago. I’ve been seeing Zina for 2 years. What I have discovered… Zina listens to my wacky hair ideas, gives feedback, does an incredible job cutting my hair, an awesome job coloring my hair… and I always feel like a million bucks when leaving there. Call me crazy… but, somehow, she makes my hair match my personality… every time. A few years ago, I spent 1 year managing a spa… so, my standards are high. You will NOT be disappointed if you visit Zina.

Rip off. Bought a groupon for $ 20 for a supposed haircut, conditioning and style. Ended up paying $ 90 in total for a bad cut and a terrible style. I asked to just trim my tips, she ended up cutting 4inches off my formerly long hair. She conditioned my hair and charged me an additional $ 20 for having «long hair». She then asked how I wanted my hair styled, I said I’d like it curled so she charged yet another additional $ 20 for a TERRIBLE style, she had no idea how to use a curling iron and just kept apologizing (she even burned me once).I had to re style my hair when I got home. After all that, I couldn’t believe she would still charge me full price for everything. This Groupon «discount» is a complete SCAM!

I bought a groupon for a cut and color a couple weeks ago and I couldn’t be happier. I was a little nervous after reading the reviews on here but my entire experience was great.
I called and got an appt the very next week. My stylist did a GREAT job and I will be going back for sure.
Don’t let a couple people who had a bad experience keep you away from this gem :)

I bought a coupon on groupon a month and a half ago. During this time they called me 3 time to reschedule. The 3^rd time, I asked for a Saturday appointment and she told me that they were all book for all the Saturday and I could only go during the week, before 5. seems that the only girl who stays late quit. The owner came to the phone and was very rude, told me that if I didn’t like it I should call groupon and get reimbursed. Reading the other comments, someone else had the same experience. groupon doesn’t reimburse you, it gives you only credit, I will make sure everyone know about this place, HORRIBLE SERVICE!!!

BAIT-​AND-​SWITCH situation. HORRIBLE SERVICE, HORRIBLE GROUPON DEAL. So, I bought a groupon deal earlier this week for a $ 28 package for ZIna G (haircut, conditioning treatment, style). I called the salon Wednesday around 5pm and told the receptionist that I had a groupon and wanted to book an appointment. She said «let me take out the book and see when I can fit you in.» The next available appointment was in three weeks. She said if I didn’t want to use the groupon, I could come in earlier, which didn’t really make sense to me. If they have earlier times available, why don’t let us groupon users come in? Oh that’s right… because they pass us off to their most inexperienced hair stylists. I told her I would call back some other time, and she rudely said «well, you’re not going to get anything sooner if you don’t book now.» Um, okay… don’t pressure me, rude lady. I call back the very next day just to see if anything has changed and if they have anything earlier… lo and behold, yanother rude woman picks up the phone and asks me when I want to come in. I told her Friday and she quickly asked, «Wait, do you have a groupon?» When I answered yes, she said, «Well, then that makes a difference.» She then told me her next available appointment was next week on a day I couldn’t go in. I asked if I could see anyone other than her if her schedule is busy and she replied that all of the GROUPON users go into one book, that there’s a different book for them. Okay, so label us as your «groupon users» and treat us like shit because we are giving your hideous little salon a shot at making some money. That’s exactly how your should treat your customers. Anyway, I asked when the next available appointment after that would be and she gave me one four weeks out. I told her I would take it– I just wanted to have something scheduled just in case. At that point, she asked me the length of my hair and when I told her it was mid-​back, she said that it would cost an extra $ 20. I told her I was just coming in for a trim, and she said that it didn’t matter how I was going to cut my hair. The reason they’re adding the extra $ 20 is for the conditioning treatment. Wow, really?! An extra $ 20 for 0.05 ounces of your product in my hair? Yes, that’s seems very reasonable. I cancelled my appointment.
I’m EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED with Zina G. and would not recommend their services to anyone. I am just going to let my groupon expire and use the $ 28 towards another groupon deal. I’m going to tell all of my friends to stay away from this place too. HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE. I tend to stay away from businesses that make money off of their clients by cheating, and so should you. DON’T GO HERE!

Came here for first time 3 months ago with a groupon which was honored with no problems to see Holly. Went back again last weekend to see Holly again for cut, and have been pleased each time. She takes a great deal of time to talk with you and get your hair exactly like you want. Recommended :)

I got a groupon for a cut and color. I was kind of bummed it took like 3 months to get an appointment, but that’s good for them!
I had Holly and she was really great. Really sweet and personable. It took 3 hours so we got to chat for a while! and I enjoyed hanging out with her for that long. She was really professional and did a great job with my hair.
the place was super cute, old and antiquey (word?) and Zues the dog was also friendly and so chill! I loved his fro

I saw a deal for this salon on Groupon. Being that I’ve never been here before, I did my research. All of the hairdressers got less than satisfactory reviews except Sara so I decided to make an appointment with her. When I called the salon to set up my appointment I was told that Sara didn’t except Groupon. The only people who except Groupon probably would of butchered my hair. Good thing I called before I purchased! Ha! Btw… the woman who answered the phone was rude. If you purchased through groupon all I can say is good luck!

I wish I had taken before-​and-​after shots of my hair, but seeing as I didn’t, you’ll just have to read my review update to understand why I’m updating it at all.
I cheated on Sara, my longtime stylist, because I got a too-​good-​to-​be-​true deal at a competing salon. Boy, I learned my lesson. The other stylist absolutely fried my hair. Sara was able to go through all the broken strands and explain just exactly what had happened to me: too strong a developer, too long under the heat, and thus, my hair had literally cracked and broken in several places. I thought that I would just have to live with this, but Sara was able to cleverly work in a much milder, much more natural-​looking color and cut my hair while hiding the damaged strands. Now when I try to explain my disastrous previous experience to friends, they’re unable to see what the heck I’m talking about. Sara is a miracle worker! I have seen the errors of my adulterous ways and will never trust my hair to anyone ever again!

I found Zina G though a coupon and was referred to Amber. My hair was a mess from 18 months of failed attempts to find a new hair dresser. She was great!!! she brought my hair back to life. I had tried four other salons and stylist and nothing special… but with Amber, everyone commented and FINALLY noticed i had done something to my hair!
Needless to say… she’s my new hair stylist! She is detailed, takes pride in the finished product and is very professional. The best part is that everytime I go in, the results she gives me are the same! Shocker… same hair, same stylist… should be the same result, in my attempts to find a hair dresser I found that’s not always the case… but not here! She rocks time after time.

I always have an awesome experience at Zina the salon, I go to Amber V. I was brunette and want to lighten up for summer, but I was really nervous about it. Amber helped me decide to lighten my hair in stages, so it wouldn’t be such a dramatic change all at once. The color blends really well with my natural color so even the grow out isn’t bad.
I am so glad I listened to her! I absolutely LOVE my hair!

Last week I used my Mind & Body Certificate to get my haircut here. At first I was hesitant because unlike the other selected salons you have to pay $ 20 for haircuts longer than your shoulder. Which almost defeats the discount, but the care that I received definitely exceeded my expectations.
The place is a cozy home where the staff is really kind and welcoming. My hair stylist was Amber and she was amazing! I wanted a new style and was very indecisive about how short I wanted to go. She was very patient and helpful in helping me find my style. I love my new haircut and so does my boyfriend (who originally was afraid of me losing my long hair.)
Great place, DEFINITELY recommend this place and Amber if you can. Very sweet girl!

Frustrated and discouraged with my hairdresser history in San Diego (since leaving Florida), I got a Mind and Body Partnerships membership and chose to go to Zina G. for some much needed touch-​up on my roots!
All of the great reviews, and I was also a skeptic upon reading the what my fellow Unilocalers had to write (was this too good to be true?), alas my fears were quickly laid to rest.
When I called to set my appointment, whoever answered the phone was extremely polite, and personable (can’t remember who it was). She offered me flexible times and dates for my appointment to fit MY schedule. Nice.
I was running a few minutes behind and left the address at home. Called, got the location and it was no problem I was behind. The guy on the phone was NICE about it!
I love that the location is in a cottage, but everything is modern. It’s welcoming and cozy, yet modern and stylish at the same time.
Walked in and was greeted by Amber who was extremely sweet, along with Lilly (not sure if it’s with an «I» or a «Y»), the cutest little Yorkie. A minute later, out came Holly and she took me back to get me settled in. Immediately, she offered me something to drink and I was parched, so just asked for some water, although I later indulged in some red wine. They also have beer for those who prefer hops.
She went over what I needed to have done with my hair, what direction I was looking to move in and went to mix my color and grab my water.
Everyone of the staff was nice and friendly. They all also seemed to get along really well and really seemed to like each other.
Holly worked her magic and did tell me she’d probably need to tone me and went over the cost-​ahead of time. Again, extremely thorough.
A few hours later, I walked out and my hair looks and feels a million times better!
AT LAST! AT LAST! I have found my new hair salon and stylist!

Everytime I come to Zina G, I leave feeling like a million bucks!!! Zina does an amazing job on my hair. I don’t even tell her what I want, I just let her do her magic!!! I couldn’t get service like this anywhere else. The salon just makes you feel at cozy and like your at home. The holiday season is the best, the salon is always decorated very nice, and in good taste. And when it’s cold, they have the fireplace going!!!

Well… no follow-​up calls from Zina G. Too bad) o: Guess they really don’t care about their customers or return business!
On a lighter note, someone from Mind and Body Partnerships read my review and sent me an email via Unilocal.They sent me another certificate to make up for my terrible experience at Zina G. Thank you!

It is difficult to find hairstylists that know how to cut long, curly hair without cutting it too short or making it frizzier. Robert Lee Casillas knows hair!
I waited until the last minute to get my hair done before going on my first 7 day Mexican Riviera Cruise! So I sat in Robert’s chair worried I would have horrible hair on my cruise!
No worries!
I had fabulous shiny, healthy, gorgeous curly hair! I also got great tips of hot spots in Puerto Vallarta since Robert used to live there. Zona’ Romantica was so beautiful and relaxing!

When I purchased a spa certificate from Mind Body Partnerships I read the Unilocal reviews on Zina G… and I have to say that initially I was skeptical of all these 5 star reviews. Like… are all these people friends of the owner? But upon entering this cute little cottage and meeting Holly, I was taken aback.
Holly greeting me with a bright smile, brought me a glass of red wine and gave me a tour of the place. She gave a sincere and detailed consultation, great shampoo and was completely attentive during the cut and style. I think I’ve found my new San Diego hair stylist and salon. (I’ll have to post a picture of my new hair later)

I’ll join in the chorus of approval for Zina G’s! I’ve only gone there once. But Sara gave me a great haircut for a good price, and left me with a lesson on how to prepare a hipper head of hair.
I’m happy.
And yes, the place is just beautiful, inside and out.
But it’s really hidden: I’ve lived in Hillcrest for years and didn’t even know they were here.
