History

Established in 1989.

After years of free lancing in New York City and Paris on the flute and saxophone, I returned to California to do my PhD at UC San Diego. Falling in love with the area, I decided to stay here and create ensembles while becoming a part of the rich local musical fabric. Since then, I have led over a dozen ensembles, taught at San Diego City College, Southwestern College, Coronado School of the Arts, Canyon Crest Academy and UCSD as well as serving as the Music Director for many years at Congregation Beth El (La Jolla), Congregation Beth Am (Carmel Valley) and have guested at many other churches and synagogues.

I currently teach privately at my studio in the Scripps Ranch area, perform my solo act called «SoloYo» and do chamber music and band gigs as requested for concerts, events, weddings, b’nai mitzvahs and synagogue services at Congregation Beth El in La Jolla. I am Pro Tools certified and do lots of contract studio work at my private recording studio.

Business Owner

Yochanan Sebastian Winston Ph.D. has performed throughout the United States, Europe and Latin America. His repertoire spans classical, jazz, klezmer, new age, contemporary, rock & roll and pop. He is very active as a composer and performs as a soloist or leader in numerous ensembles. Dr. Winston annually provides music for dozens of weddings, synagogue services and b’nai mitzvah celebrations in addition to his concert, club and recording work.

He has performed with world-​renowned musicians in concert and on live broadcasts in such places as the Darmstadt Ferienkurse, IRCAM (Paris), WDR (Köln), Fylkingen (Stockholm) and «Time of Music» (Vitasaari, Finland). He has performed with Chaka Khan, David Sanborn, Anthony Braxton, Steve Reich, Avraham Fried, the Arditti String Quartet and Pierre-​Yves Artaud among hundreds of others.

Winston holds a Ph.D. from the UCSD, a Diplôme from the Conservatoire National de Region (France), a MMus and BMus from Manhattan School of Music in sax and flute.
