History

Established in 2010.

I started working in the family business as a custom picture framer when I was 18 years old. I always had an interest in art and was an artist myself. It led me to seeking out art in my own community.

I have worked for galleries in San Diego as a picture framer. World Art was my first employer, where I started to learn about framing from my stepmother, I then took on a business partner and opened Art of Framing on Adams ave. I loved the community and the artists I met working there, but differences with my business partner led me to me leaving the business.

Wonka Gallery is my newest business. Besides custom framing and art restoration, I am very interested in promoting local art. I have written art reviews for the San Diego Union Tribune, and held numerous art events. I work closely with artists and designers.

Meet the Business Owner

Ryan C.

Business Owner

I have been working with art for over 20 years, I started out as a picture framer working for the family business when I was in high school. I wanted to be an artist and this felt like a job that would allow me to use my creativity.

I started learning about art restoration from a friend that worked at the Art Institute of Chicago as an art restorer. He showed me different techniques for cleaning and repairing old canvas, fixing cracks and re-painting missing parts.

I have been interested in restoration for most of my life. Antique cars and furniture always appealed to me, there is just something to be said about how things used to be made, I take pride in my work and I know it will be around long after I am gone.

I am an art collector and curator of art events as well. I describe my art collection as strange and unusual. I have written articles about art and the art scene and have been published several times in the Union Tribune
