Wigginton Ranch

I am guessing the other review of this place is a case of bad apples by a bad owner who got kicked out. This ranch is amazing. I have been there since February of 2013 and it is the most wonderful and welcoming place. The horses there are not underfed. The underweight ones are actually horses that are 30+ years old who have lost muscle tone and have difficulty chewing. The ranch manager will call the ASPCA or have neglected horses moved to horse rescues on her own dime before she allowed that to happen. I am down there 3 times a week and have never seen an animal mistreated by anyone. The people are welcoming– the ranch is home to the Tijuana River Valley Equestrian Association TRVEA– so the idea that animals would be abused or neglected on this ranch is outrageous. There was one horse whose hooves were over grown and he was neglected and I personally watched Ms. Wigginton address the situation, pay to have his feet done after calling the owner every week for months, and then found a rescue and arranged transport up north for the horse. Also– Exact Equine — a mobile veterinarian has a clinic there once a month and Max Wilcox would have intervened if he ever saw any kind of mistreatment.
They host Gymkhana events, provide access across their property to anyone who wants to ride from the west side of the river valley to the east and vice versa AND allow any rider to use their restrooms. My horses are well tended and people down there keep an eye out for each other.

Worst ranch. Lots of underweight horses. Overgrown hooves. Abusive techniques. Unclean horses. Dirty water. I’m so very unhappy.
EDIT: I do not keep horses here. I have not recently visited this ranch. But this is what I saw when I did– 5+ horses with severely overgrown hooves and two horses bitted up in the round pen with no one watching them. One horse got a plastic bag stuck on his tooth and started to completely panic. He proceeded to run and spin frantically around his stall while onlookers laughed. I quickly walked up and caught the bag that was stuck in his mouth. After I pulled the bag away, he horse dropped to the ground and continued to sway back and forth. The people around me just snickered at it. I was at this ranch for a total of 60 minutes while I test rode a horse I was interested in. I have no been back since, but if I saw and experienced this much within a short amount of time, makes me wonder what continues to go on throughout the day.
To the Unilocaler who targeted me in her review, I’m not sure what you meant about teaching classes and being unhappy with places I’ve kept my horses. For one, I don’t teach anything? Nor have I ever stated that I do. And two, I’ve kept my horses at 4 places that were incredible wonderful to me. I have never been unhappy at a place I’ve boarded. :)
